A very very well done review. The people involved with making the external and internal design of the latest generation of Peugoets are working wonders. The 3008 and 5008 are wonderful to look at. My wish is I hope those engineers and designers are given another lets say 3-5k euros in selling price point to play with in the next generation of models to make them flawless - no cheap plastics in interior - glove box fuse box switch on rhd cars - no ugly stalks - adaptable flap on cup holder to adapt to circumference of bottle/cup - remove gloss black arches and in the interior - Panaramic roof on middle specced cara and not just top of the line GT specced models. These pano roofs are game changers imo just not enough people have yet to experience them to notice how nice a feature they are relative to a blocked out roof liner. All in all love the direction Peugeot bave been steering the last 2 or 3 years. You have a great well explained review here and im so pleased you are able to get your hands on one as one of the "little guys" at your subscriber level as opposed to the likes of autocar, evo & topgear who just smoke cigars and waffle on about the handling of cars like all buyers do is buy every single car on earth to see how it handles on a track. French car electrics are legendary for their poor quality, they used to say that if you wanted to scrap your Pug/Citroen, just have the engine bay steam cleaned. I had a 306 from back when Peugeot actually made a car that was worth the hassle of owning one, and that got to a point where going over a minor bump would randomly turn off/on/disconnect one two of the following...... The wipers, the headlights, the tail lights, the ignition coils, the lambda sensor or just the entire ECU.

I used to enjoy EV spotting when on a trip somewhere. It was easy to recognise a LEAF, an i3, a Tesla. I always had trouble telling Zoes from Clios but Souls weren't too hard to tell apart from their combustion version (probably because I had an EV one myself). I can't keep up with all of these new cars, though. That's doubly true when we have these cars that are near identical between their EV and fossil variants. Great that there are so many new EVs on the road but I'm a bit sad that my days of EV spotting are perhaps not over but certainly a lot trickier!

Ahhhhh,.... The range. The second biggest reason I chose the Zoe over this (number 1 was the cramped and comically small rear seats). My ZE50 Zoe gets and absolutely guaranteed and rock solid 220 miles in summer and you have to really push it to get under 180 in winter (so far). For a car with a 50KWH battery, the e208 just doesn't have the range that it SHOULD. The ZE40 Zoe went further and it had 10KWH LESS capacity. And is three years old. Nope. Looks lovely though

Ian, re the Peugeot e208, bearing in mind I'm a technophobe please can you clarify three things for me in the simplest terms, as follows: 1) when coming to a halt at, say, traffic lights, do I have to employ the P brake in ADDITION to the electronic brake each and every time? 2) still on the subject of that front P button, must it also be pressed each time the gear toggle is moved from, for instance, B to N mode? 3) that speed limiter (forget cruise control), which in my opinion is stupidly placed behind rather than on the steering wheel - how precisely does that facility work when you can't see the darn thing? After the simplicity of my Zoe, the Pug's functionality in these things seems complex and bewildering. HELP!
@rustyjoints48573 жыл бұрын
Nice review, but saying it slaps competition in the face, I don't think so. The e208 was one of the options for a Fiesta replacement and the Zoe came first. Fair enough the interior isn't quite as well crafted and refined but there's certainly more space in the Zoe. I also found the infotainment system easier to use, with a much better Nav system. As for range, Zoe wins as well with easily 230 miles during the summer, and the power doesn't tail off above 50, it keeps giving. As you mentioned we're all different but from a family perspective the Renault wins with the Peugeot second. At the end of the day it came down to internal space and range.

The front seats also seem to be quite claustrophobic, but that might be a camera effect. You also seemed to be very cramped for foot space around those apparently offset pedals. I have the DS3 E-Tense which looks so similar to the E208, and the battery and motor are the same so real world range at 70mph will give you a poor 125 miles in the summer, unlike the lies they will tell you of over 200 miles. I am giving back the DS3 as its a motability car for my autistic son and spending so long charging, when we can find chargers that are working, its just not practical so I am going to a Peugeot 2008 Diesel as they really do look amazing. I will in 3 years, when it comes to the time I hand back the next motability car check how the electric cars and chargers are doing. Peugeot nailed it with the 205... the 206 and the 208 .. I personally dislike the 207.. I would love a 205Gti one day.. and perhaps a e208 as a daily driver .. owned a (one) 206 for many many many many km... (almost 400.000)

Good review. What does crack me up is that this style of review of cars was given up on by top gear 20+ years ago as it was considered boring and had little entertainment value. Yet in 2020 KZbin is full of videos like these. Again not a dig at this video in particular, just an observation of the genre as a whole now.
@wilsonhitchings66873 жыл бұрын
Maybe EVM isn't trying to entertain you, but to educate you with a real-world review. If you want non-factual, opinion-over-substance reviews, call Jeremy Clarkson.

@@wilsonhitchings6687 i know, it wasnt a dig just an observation of the genre. Although ironically id guess that 90% of the people viewing already own an EV as is the case for most EV videos too (another irony). I remember the fully charged event and it was preaching to an audience of EV Evangelists about why they should buy an EV when they already had one.

Just had a test drive. Absolutely hated it. The steering response was nice but that was it. The suspension is horrible especially compared to the Honda-e and even the Mini SE. The infotainment is boring and feels really outdated. The materials in the car seems very plasticky and this is the e208 GT I tested. To be honest I felt the Honda-e and even the Mini electric felt like a big upgrade compared to this car. How it won the car of the year, I will never know.

No problem if you know basics of detailing (hint: very soft brush is your friend and right sort of cleaner liquid).

Sherukka Time and energy you could spend elsewhere though, if the design was improved upon. Even though using a detailing brush is obviously a lot of fun on your day off. Cheers.

A few dubious design decisions both inside and out, range is a bit anaemic likewise acceleration so not really a motorway mile muncher. But price is pretty fair. So not perfect, but maybe just a mid-generation upgrade off being ideal

Thanks, not keen at all on those large black wheel arches. Good review, but not for me, too small, slow and limited range, definitely a good second car, but not a primary driver. Yes as a hot hatch it would be fun and have great appeal.
@sheldonv83 жыл бұрын
Tried one in February and came to the same conclusion on the power front. Basically it's gutless and certainly NOT a motorway car. . At 70 mph it was getting less than 3 m/kw and out of battery in 125 miles!!!
@reggiebuffat3 жыл бұрын
The real question is how fast does it recharge? If the range is short, but rapid charge, that'd OK.
@ruedigerpreiss93073 жыл бұрын
Not really a car designed for frequent long motorway journeys. Unless battery density can significantly be increased (in a few years time), no EV is great on 2-way or motorways above 55-60 mph. I think for proper sales-rep long motorway journey EVs we may need to wait another 2-3 years ;). For the occasional long weekend trip or airport-run the 100kW charger does just fine.

Correct. Its just a case of scale. When Peugeot put a contract out for say 500 million euros worth of battery instead of say for example 50 million euros worth of battery contract per annum the price will drop and they will be able to drop the rrp of the e cars whilst still maintaining a pleasant margin. Its just a case of taking more people to intend on purchasing electric motor cars as opposed to piston motor cars in a big big way. Wait another 3 years and see either the cars improve quite a bit in spec for the same money or thr same spec decrease in price slightly.

Enjoy your videos, I own an Ioniq but viewed many EV’s before purchasing. I do like the look of that Peugeot but noticed the gear selector layout, similar to some other brands, can you understand why moving the lever forward is backwards and moving the lever backwards is forward 🤔 I have driven boats on Norfolk Broads so appreciate the logic that forwards is forward and backwards is back so logical and simple 🤷🏻♂️
@huwdavies66503 жыл бұрын
Ergonomically it is easier to pull towards you rather than pushing away and as the most used "gear" is forwards it then makes sense to have the pull action rather than the pull. (Just a guess)
@ruedigerpreiss93073 жыл бұрын
@@huwdavies6650 Most automatic cars are / used to laid out as P, R, N, D with D1, D2, B or +/- etc. to follow or next to D. Therefore D wouldn't make sense between P & N and N needs to be between D and R to ensure people wouldn't switch directly from one to another and damage the transmission. Also the e-208 has a B mode by pulling a second time - of course in theory this could be activated via a little thumb-button on the lever but a) this set up matches what people are used to from older automatics and b) how many times would drivers accidentally click that button and why spoil the sleek design of the lever..?

The cruse control is brilliant to use. You can't see the buttons, but it is not exactly rocket science to use it.

It’s not rocket science to use the stereo but you tend to want to be able to see what you’re pressing. It’s clearly an afterthought.
@apn423 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricVehicleMan Not really. I have owned a 207 from 2007 , a 308 from 2012 and now have a 308 from 2019. They have all used this cruise control setup and I find that it is very intuitive to use. I would certainly hate if it was replace with buttons on the steering wheel which would be awkward to press.
