I challenge him to find a real warranty like that from any auto maker. regarding the service cost, I think it is high and that goes to the local service provider. it is best someone ask them what is included. did they price in 4 sets tires and 5 sets of break pads for 160k km? those alone with labor costs, can cost more than 2000 bucks, right?

I think you are way right in you use of the Australian Consumer law. As I recall, from watching other Aussie auto experts that the law says something to the affect that you can expect what a reasonable person believes is appropriate for the purchase. So the question then becomes what can you reasonably expect from the car. We here in the US do not have such a law and I wish we did. My 2013 window wipers mothers went out in 2021. I keep my cars forever and I have never had a window wipers moter go out. My 2003 Ford still works fine. Anyway this cost me over $1200.00 to fix, same with my rear lift gate which cost about the same to fix. Was that "reasonable" not to me it was not. Most warranties in the United States very greatly between automobiles. In many cases as you have stipulated you have a 5-year unlimited mileage, or 100,000 mile warranty on the entire car. Then there are other manufacturers who offer a 3-year warranty on the vehicle bumper to bumper they call it and 100,000 mi on the powertrain. So there are a lot of different variations depending on the manufacturer you choose. And I'm really not sure what Tesla's is in the US. Perhaps this is just growing pains for BYD as they enter other nations. It would be good if consumer advocates from Australia could sit down with BYD and help them understand what an appropriate warranty would be for your nation. That way when everything was said and done, it could be signed off by everybody and you would have an agreement as to what an acceptable warranty for that automobile would be.

Mate, Dump BYD order... Wait for your Tesla. We love our Model Y! Soon I'll be trading in my VW GTI Mk7 to buy a Model 3 SR to arrive after Feb 2023. Cheers, Eric

Visited the store yesterday and when I asked about warranty issues mentioned here the person said, there is no change in warranty and they are receiving orders still despite of warranty issues.

So basically what you're saying is that it's not BYD doing this but Australian dealers etc.

Good on you Sam for speaking up about a company you have invested in, shows a lot of integrity 👍

The truth is that EV Direct - the dealer wants to get more out of the ongoing services. Should lodge an enquiry to ACCC.

What's the story in New Zealand? They received their cars before us. Do they have a distributor or do they sell direct to the customer?

Not just illegal, but foolish. As a new and largely unknown brand, the best way to gain market share is to give a generous warranty. To make matters worse, they didn't differentiate between their BEVs, their ICEs, and their hybrids. The warranty should be customized for each. Their BEV doesn't have a clutch, a belt, and certainly no Particulate sensing port.

Clearly seems as if they wish to use the most lightweight, medium duty hardware and electronics. Likely will also seek to sell extended warranty for those parts like electronics, echoing the worst parts of the ice buy experience. I recall Elon snickering at mention that byd is competition, followed by, have you seen their car? I haven’t, but presume it is like the first Kia. Spindly. Must be priced right to win that segment.

How does this compare to warranty conditions for vehicles sold in China? BYD distribution in Australia is looking very amateurish. BYD should punt the distributor and sell direct.
@danoc512 жыл бұрын
It's a good bet that BYD supports these warranty conditions and uses a third party to keep themselves from suffering lawsuits and liabilities.

I still have faith in BYD, but absolutely zero in EV direct. The servicing costs don't bother me because I can shop around under Australian consumer law. I can also buy OEM components directly from China if there's price gouging. The warranty change on the other hand may need to be challenged. I specifically asked about the warranty at the BYD experience centre and was told 7years unlimited Kms, which it seems is a blatant misrepresentation.

I’ve put a lot of kilometres on my 1/2020 Tesla Model 3, and their service guys still fall over backwards to help me out. When I was in Sydney last December at 134,293km, they comped new front upper control arms and the corresponding wheel alignment. Then in April, when my first scheduled service interval hit at the 2 year mark, the Canberra service centre, who I can’t speak higher of, did the brake fluid check as specified in the owners manual, for $24.

Sounds like No warranty at all. Warranty to me means EVERYTHING is covered and took care of. If EV direct is fair, they must match the Warranty in China !!!!

So, which is the better idea to fleece the customer. BMW charging customers a subscription fee to use the seat heaters or BYD welching on customers with a dodgy warranty?
@duncanburnet91852 жыл бұрын
Why would an EV have a clutch disc or a release bearing?
@ensteffo2 жыл бұрын
It is probably a general list of insurance items applied which is also used for ICE vehicles.

For comparison, Yuan plus in China offers 6 years/ 150000km warranty on the whole vehicle plus lifetime warranty on the battery, motor, and electric system for the first owner.

Surely the issue here is with the service providers for service.
@lumtavon19522 жыл бұрын
So what, that's China. Down under the distributor decides, noone else

Two sides of the coin: EVs are currently so hot merchandise, that manufacturers think they can get away with it anyway. Otoh, such long warranty on wearable parts, like tyres, shock absorbers, windscreen wipers aren’t realistic.

Thanks, good work sir. I will stay away from this product.
