The difference is Chase is doing something about it...building his own product company. I don't know much about Sandy, but he comes off all mouth.....IMo. His initial review of the Ram Charger was that no one needed that 600+ mile range. Myself, I've driven 800 miles a day for two days a number times over the years because I'd rather drive than fly and I have hauled a trailer at times as well.

If you get your hands on any home appliance's owner's manual from 40 years ago, it has a complete schematic and mechanical drawings, along with parts list, for that appliance. It was the standard practice. You can't tell me, with the technology we have now, that having that type of information available for every device sold, wouldn't be easier to put together and provide, today, then it was 40 years ago.

I recently had to do that for a secondhand lawnmower, and having a diagram to cross-reference every single part on it was indescribably helpful to figure out what it needed. Even moreso with the documents online, you can do it from your phone if you need to. Notably, you also need to have access to the internals - being able to open the back of a phone and having access panels on cars and so forth, something a lot of companies seem to like phasing out now.

The issue with batteries in the trailer is that the extra range that you are adding is directly impacting the amount of cargo you are able to haul. What isn't widely known by the public is that there are caps on how much a truck can haul and one of the biggest balancing acts there is for electrifying cargo hauling, is balancing the weight of the batteries, with the weight capacities allowed to be hauled. You can keep adding batteries for longer ranges, but at a certain point, each pound of battery that you add, you gotta reduce your hauling capacity by a pound. So, in other words, running outta battery room on the tractor hasn't yet been a problem, in that adding batteries to the trailer has become a necessity.

@Eiertschik2 ай бұрын
Not always is the load limit determined by the weight. If you're hauling furniture or similar goods with lots of "air" in them, then space is gonna restrict you sooner than weight. Plus: electric trucks already get additional weight allowance to balance out the weight of the batteries.

For European Market IT IS almost solved Problem, Iveco, Daimler Truck and Others have eTrucks with enough range for the day
@Eiertschik2 ай бұрын
@@mariankerler2134 European truckers need to take a break of 45min after 4,5h of straight driving. And may not drive for more than 9h in total per day. So they have plenty of breaks where the can recharge their trucks. Truckers in the US are allowed to drive for 11h straight without a break and Canadian truckers can even go for 13h without a stop. So there's less opportunity for recharging if you want to max out your driving times.

Pretty sure you're talking about Sandy Munroe, he's kind of a legend in the industry. You can see lots of his work here on KZbin. Check out those massive Hitatchi dump trucks. Or their excavators. Or if you don't like Hitachi how bout Volvo? They're making them too. Or the Komatsu electric excavators. There's a ton that are full battery, and a bunch that are cabled with smaller batteries that get constant charging from the nearby power grid. I do love what Edison is doing, there are indeed places/situations where having an onboard generator like that makes sense. But like Sandy was trying to say deep in the mines where you care about air quality isn't one of them. And keeping everything hybrid increases vehicle complexity and keeps OPEC and the megacorps in power.

"Hybrids will be like the pet rocks of the future, no one will want them" is interesting. I had a prius for years, and I loved that thing, but when I look at other hybrid vehicles they often have very different setups. Having two completely independent systems, a fuel engine and a battery bank, that just don't communicate or interact with one another at all, is something I've noticed, and yeah, I can imagine that would just be a bit more annoying than a regular car is now. That prius didn't have an electric charge port; if the battery needed charging, it would run the engine for a bit to bring it up. Wasn't any less convenient than any other car.

Self shunting rail cars should be a thing. Use each car for braking to charge the battery and assist in pulling grades. 200 hp x 100 cars, each with a 100 kw battery is a no brainer. An extra 100 drive/regen axles and 20 000 hp on one train would save a lot of fuel. Thats an easy way to hybridize rail cars and self shunting would increase efficiency in the yard tremendously. The rail guys can really step out of the 19 th century into the 21st finally.
@ultmateragnarok83762 ай бұрын
I could see this being a massive investment - the rail cars would be a bit more expensive, and every rail car would need replacing or retrofit to fully utilize this system - but it would be so worth it. Each standard freight car has, what, four axles? And a freight train averages 90 to 120 cars - that's 400 axles, give or take. And I can't imagine weight would be too much of a concern for tracks able to handle the locomotives themselves.
