That rust is because it's a cast iron brake disc. Cast iron rusts. It will not harm the brake performance, or rot away. See every car you've ever washed after you've washed it. This is how you reassure yourself you weren't overcharged for carbon ceramic brakes on your Pug.

I’m currently driving the PHEV version of this. I’m ~185cm/6’ and I’ve no problem at all with the steering wheel. I’ve recently driven it from Brussels to the Rome area and I would’ve preferred to have done that in the EV version. Not in a single day mind, the EV version is definitely not the right EV to try that in. But having a toddler in the back, we split the journey over three days. 5-7hs of driving each day. I could’ve done that in the EV version. Sure, I would’ve had to stop a bit more often than I’d preferred BUT: I would’ve had a nice and smooth driving experience throughout the trip. Whereas the PHEV’s ride becomes considerably less nice when the battery depletes after say 1.5-2hs of hybrid driving. At that point you’re just driving a normal hybrid and that annoys me at this stage. I wish the EV version had more range and faster charging, but I’d still take it over the PHEV version. I wouldn’t necessarily take the 308 over the Astra though. I had the Astra PHEV hatchback before the 308SW and the Astra certainly beats the 308 on some points. I think it’s a handsome car too so don’t be fooled into thinking the Peugeot is necessarily better. It’s a pretty car but its design is also more pretentious and well… it doesn’t always deliver. In some points, the no nonsense Opel approach is just better. Those I-toggles are an example. Could’ve been better than the Astra way…. but just aren’t. They’re worse.

Keyless entry : keep your keys in a metal tin (ferromagnetic - does a magnet stick to it). I use a small gift toffee tin, or you will get your car stolen using a easy to purchase signal capture and amplifier to pretend that the key in your house is next to your car - then they will drive off. The most common theft method at the moment.

Peugeot and Citroen have just come 5th and 4th in the Driver Power Survey. I've had 2 2008 ICE and they have been great - nippy, economical, comfortable and no build issues. They look excellent too. Not convinced by EV in the UK so no brands win me over. Would like me a 208 ICE but will stick with my excellent 2008.

I have the PHEV version and love it. If the electric version had the motor and 73KWH battery out of the 3008, i would consider it.but its not enough power or range. A couple of corrections. The Hybrid and electric versions have 548 litres of boot and google maps instructions do apppear on the main screen if you are in the correct view.

Fun review, thank you. I was given a Peugeot as a courtesy car when I took mine in for a service. I found I like the small steering wheel for precisely the reason Nicola gave which is that you can throw the car around. The other thing which I admire increasingly is that Stellantis has produced platforms with really good underpinnings but which are able to take on the characteristics of the brand you happen to be in. So this thing feels Peugeot. Another thing I like about the Stellantis platforms is that you get a sensible sized battery (54kwh) rather than some behemoth designed for a moonshot. Very few of us do more than 200 miles in a normal day and quite a lot of us outside of cities can charge at home, so who needs 400 miles? Really? So if you like a Peugeot look and feel this works. I agree it seems a bit underpowered BTW.

The EMP2 platform has always been a good platform since it was launched in 2013. It is a testament to good design that after so many years of evolution it can support EV architecture and still be a joy to drive. It also has a relatively low weight, especially when compared to its successor platform STLA Medium.

OK Peugeot design department, design a longboy (estate) with plenty of capacity for a family and associated stuff. Great the 308SW. Huge boot, lovely space in the front seats but hold on, only suitable for small people in the back seats? What's going on, anyone above 11 years of age cant come as they might be too big?? Not sue that makes much sense? I do like an estate, touring, avant or longboy but isn't the whole idea of an estates to carry the passengers and associated 'stuff' in comfort. Stellantis really acts like they totally want you to avoid their EV range. No one pedal driving, 0-60 in two business days, 136 or 156HP - which year it is? MG 4 has better 0-60, more powerful motor and one pedal driving. And costs less than 308 or Astra. Personally I chose Kona EV, it's a way better package than the Stellantis' offerings.

We’d love to get an EV estate to replace our aging diesel, but this e308 just doesn’t work for us. Like most estate owners we want a reasonably priced, practical family car with good range. The e308 fails on 2 of those criteria. Range needs to be 100 miles more for a start. Pricing is a joke. Saying that these will be 20% off new in a few months and 50% off used in a year, if not more. Why Stellantis think anyone will pay £40k plus is beyond me. MG5 too small, Astra estate same issues as the Peugeot. Other than that just stupidly priced BMW’s. Ho hum, the wait continues.

What’s with the need for ICEEV makers to stick SW on the end of estate car descriptors? How many owners will be filling their EV estates with three dozen over-unders and side-by-side 12-bores, then driving onto the moors from manor houses or loading up the punt guns in the hope of decimating the local waterfowl population? If people want to believe they’re of the landed gentry or top brass in the police. They should buy one of the many unreliable offerings from the JLR stable. With a 70 kwh or so battery I could have forgiven them the bad efficiency and transmission tunnel. But like this it’s simply useless as a family car for a lot of people. It’s the perfect car to prove EV haters right with this terrible range. Our 2019 Kona has significantly longer range, so whenever we feel like our family needs a bigger car, I really hope enough manufacturers have gotten it together that there are decent range wagon style EVs on the used market. I don’t need a fancy new ID.7 or BMW Tourer, but this here is simply too terrible to even consider.

Well I checked this and it turns out that both cars are 1852mm wide, but being an SUV, the ID4 is actually taller (1631mm vs 1442mm for the 308SW) which is what will increase the drag relative to the 308 because of the larger frontal area. Yet the 308 is still less efficient. Id4 is also slightly shorter (4584mm vs 4636mm) but obviously that doesn't affect the efficiency in the same way!

You make me laugh with your "long boy" label, Nicola: it will appeal to machos who think that "size matters." You probably titillated them talking about "whipping"! Wish I could see that 3D screen. Must be a combination of binnacle and heads-up display…? I'd like it much more if it had one-pedal driving (a must for me). I sure we had these -and so many other EVs- on the left side of the Atlantic. Lucky Europeans!

You can say whatever you want ,but this car is a joke of an EV. 100kW charging speed? In 2024? Please… build quality is really lame, as well.

Peugeot have just ranked 5th (Citroen 4th) in the Driver Power Survey for reliability. I've have 2 2008 ICE and the power and performance are great - great mpg and they are nippy. No build issues and, as the survey says, most owners agree.

Not a dedicated EV platform so saving money keeping the rear end the same as ICE.
