Really good video. Have been really enjoying these component intros. Have been referring friends. Re; thumbnail -- no apostrophe in LEDs, however.

I find high brightnes LEDs being driven at a fraction of a mA is enough for most indication applications. I also prefer the coloured lens type, far better on the eye and better diffusion.

If you shine light on an LED can you get a voltage like solar cells are they not a form of LED????? :-)

yes you can get SOME voltage output, but its insignificant.

You can as a sensor not for power. Glass case diodes are light sensitive and can potentially cause issues in circuits. Iirc solar cells emit infrared if powered. There's also pin and photodiodes as well. Most (all?) semiconductors have a photoelectric affect.
