USING THIS METHOD YOU CAN UPGRADE YOUR CONSOLE TO 500GB, 1TB AND 2TB SSDs. 960Gb SSDs will be recognized as 500Gb drive and after installing Xbox OS you have to connect that SSD to your PC and manually extend "User Content" partition to maximum available space. You can use software like Acronis, Mini tool Partition Wizard etc.

Xbox officially supports 500GB, 1TB and 2TB HDDs/SSDs. Technically it's possible to install 4TB SSD. All you need to do is put it inside and then install Xbox OS from a USB drive. Your 4TB SSD will be recognized as a 2TB drive. Once done you need to connect your SSD to a PC and extend "UserContent" partition to maximum available space. I never recommend doing it because if you hard reset your console or if there will be a new major update for your console then you may end up with a system crash and then you'll need to repeat the whole process again.

I was under the impression you HAD to partition/format the new external drive with some fancy scripts before installing it or the Xbox would not recognize it and allow an offline system update. Is it really as easy as just taking a new hard drive out of the box and sticking it in the Xbox, then using a USB drive to perform the update. It recognizes it?!?!?!?
@ElectronicsComputers3 жыл бұрын
Same process as you upgrade your laptop: replace the drive and then install OS. Without any stupid third-party software and scripts.
@bsb6143 жыл бұрын
@@ElectronicsComputers I have actually never replaced a laptop drive. I actually followed a tutorial to install a SSD in my One X last spring (my HDD was failing). I partitioned and used scripts etc. I was in over my head but it worked. and then the error codes showed up once again about 3 weeks later so I figured it may be more related to thermal paste or something else. So I uninstalled the SSD and use it as an external for my Series X. I now have an opened Xbox One X just WAITING for a new hard drive (worth trying again!), but I was put off by having to do the partition thing again. If I can literally just drop any HDD in out of the box and it will be recognized, I am going to give it another try. I was under the impression it was not even formatted correctly by default, not to mention the partitions being required for the Xbox to accept it. Thank you SO MUCH for your reply!

Glad it helped! I agree, the console upgrade makes a night and day difference compared to the hard drive. Additionally, the Xbox One X can be easily repaired, whereas if the Series S or X has a faulty SSD, it’s almost impossible to fix. I have dozens of these consoles in my repair shop that I bought for $50 each to use for donor parts.

Even in 2024 this guide helps to install the OSU1 without waiting one month until MS updates the file with newer version so it would install. The trick is to take out the power cord after it has shut down (FAN has stopped) when you press reset the console. At least for me it worked after partitioning script. Before that I was going crazy, fighting 3 days with the 101 and 106 Errors.

Awesome video! Definitely easy to follow along with. As soon as I heard the offline update file was 5GB... I knew I'd have to go with the cloning option because my internet is atrocious and downloading those games again or that update file would be quite the process for me.
@ElectronicsComputers4 жыл бұрын
I always recommend "clean" OS installation but if it's not the option for you then just simply clone your drive. If you're cloning to a larger drive then you have to clone all partitions as is without automatically resizing them! And when the cloning is done resize manually the "user content" partition to maximum available space.
