If you have a Xbox One X, it's a must. One of the best upgrades for a pretty powerful little system still.

Oh yeah, I did this with mine as well before getting the Series X, the One X was pretty powerful but bottlenecked by a standard HDD, a 1TB SSD made it sooooo much better and really feel like a big mid gen almost next gen upgrade man 😄
@zybch
@zybch 3 жыл бұрын
@@johny1220 it was bottlenecked by the SATA interface, not the drive itself. The og and S only did 40MB/sec, one X upped it to 60. The drives themselves were capable of close to double. So adding an internal ssd is just stupid unless it's for reliability. You want ssd speeds then your only real option is an external usb ssd and they work great.

I think I see where you’re going but I think you mean 400MB and 600MB per second. Mechanical hard drives can’t reach those speeds. That’s why you can improve loading times with an SSD upgrade.

I guess I've gotten used to waiting in most of the other games though and the boot up time for the xbox doesn't bother me. Thanks so much for this video. I bought a SSD last night for my Xbox Series S. I’ve been contemplating the upgrade because I wasn’t sure if the upgrade would be worth it. I’m convinced it is now. I have a couple of questions for you - In your game load-time demo, when you say “External 1TB SSD”, we’re you using the stock HDD internally? I wonder if the cache would be faster if the internal was SSD as well. Again, thank you.

I was using the stock drive inside and an external ssd. The best would be to run an internal ssd plus an external ssd to load games, which can be a little quicker. Obviously the difference isn’t huge between internal and external but it was measurable.

If you already have a one s, maybe. The series s is noticeably faster though. I actually own the series s and x. The start up time and navigation within the UI is on par with the X. The SSD just makes the one s more easy to live with in the context of more modern consoles. The issue is how long will they put out games that can be played with the one s? If you have a big backlog, maybe it could work out. Also it’s possible that Microsoft may support first party games for longer.

I just cloned my 500gb stock Xbox One S drive to a new 500gb Samsung Evo 870 ssd. I've noticed inconsistent load times. Anyone know if that's normal? For example just did Outer Worlds and there was a 10 second difference booting the game each time with the internal ssd. Never paid much attention other than Borderlands 3 which took forever to load and still a long time with this ssd.

What if I used an external NVMe SSD? The loading times should be even faster than an internal SATA SSD, as USB 3.0 has the bandwidth to handle NVMe speeds. For the average person I think it’s easier to just plug in an external drive.
@Upscaled_HT
@Upscaled_HT 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think there would a huge benefit given the cost. Sata seems like the sweet spot for me since it’s close to usb 3 speeds, which is a little slower than sata. There are newer iterations of usb 3 that are faster than sata but the Xbox doesn’t have that kind.

@@socom2wasgreat542 No, they didn't bother to upgrade the IO chip for the ONE S or the ONE X. That is why some games load faster off USB. An internal SSD will still load faster than a mechanical drive though. No seek time or drive head thrashing. A USB SSD will give slightly better performance for games. You may get snappier dashboard/OS performance with an internal SSD, but I think that is mostly cached on the eMMC (which Microsoft didn't update to the latest standard either so still much slower than it could have been).

I won't spend money on something like this till they find a way to externally install something that can generally make the console run better on high graphic games without having locked settings. Like the series s. Course I'm not downplaying it because I switched to that system after sony did me a fuck and suspended my account for 60 days. This console runs so much better than the pro and im having a blast with it. Both series s and x support rtx. The one game that made it unbearable to play cuz of the loading times was days gone. I love the game but man those loading times are worse than gta's.
