Just a tip for everyone else. It is definitely easier to hold the center with needle nose pliers and lock the nut with a open end wrench, especially if you've never done this before. Great video!

True. I use a .004 as a shim while socket tightening. When I yank out the 4 only 3 will fit. Good stuff

@@elobiretv I'm as cheap as anybody, and that tool is a MUST. search 'Valve Adjusting Tool For Scooters' it's a two-piece tool with one piece having 3mm, 3.5mm, and 4mm and the other piece having 9mm and 10mm sockets. great tool. way less than ten bucks.

Thank you for the video, my scooter seemd not having power anymore, despite new belt and Variator it was the valves, i adjusted the spacing and now the scooter seems like a jet! (Had a little problem with the gasket of the valve cover, so it was leaking a little oil, but rearranged the gasket, repositioned the cover, and now is perfect!)

Hey everyone, I have a 150cc Velocity scooter, and it slowly started to get harder and harder to crank. I would run the battery down turning it over until it would finally fire at the almost end of the battery life. I changed out everything that I could, since the symptoms of valve problems is basically no fire. This took my about 45 minutes, I used the sealant that he said, and BAM, my bike fires as soon as I hit the starter. This is not a hard job to do, and I hope you all get the help that I did from this man. Thank you for the video.

Remove the spark plug when the engine is warm, and screw in a compression tester and crank the engine to see if the compression is good. 125-150 psi range is a new engine. Anything under 100 is not good. You could have crud in the valve seats or require new piston rings. Thanks For watching! Be sure to rate Thumbs Up, and share my videos

I will have to try this in the next couple days. I was riding for the second time ever (I have about 30 miles on it) and on my way to work, I went around a turn, and she just bogged down and died. Problem Solved! You are exactly correct! I am just now logging on so I didn't get to see your reply but I'll tell you what happened. In this video at 4:32 "this pipe going around" .. That pipe on mine is shaped differently and it goes up and passes the ignition coil then becomes an insulated rubber hose. The ignition coil (or spark plug wire) was up against that chrome pipe and it had melted halfway through the wire. I removed the ignition coil, tested it for ohms, it checked out normal. Put it back, tried a spark plug test, it was a weak orange spark .. Plugged it in, scooter started up.. Til I kinked the coil where it had melted, and there ya go the scooter shut right down on me! so you are right on the money with the ignition prob.. Plus thanks for the help removing panels in this video. Knew what to do right away when I got home!

I watched this carefully. Here are two things that I feel should be absolutely clarified. He said "ohohfive" very quickly when using the feeler gauge This means .005 inches Do not use Millimeters..... the thickness used to set the GAP of the rocker arms. It is marked on the feeler gauge and will very quickly be unreadable later. So make a mark on the gauge leaf that you can easily recognize later. Turning the engine to get to the right point for TDC (Top Dead Center) where all valves are fully closed so the gap can be set, MUST be done so that the engine is turned in the clockwise direction with the wrench. Backwards does not work well! In reality, a very informative video. Thanks!

I went ahead and did the adjustment, then rotated the flywheel 2 complete revolutions and checked clearance again and then closed everything back up..I removed the carb disassembled it and cleaned it all out + jets. It was clean to start but now it it is extra clean. Long story short - I do have fuel flowing to carb -I do have spark - no vacuum leaks -battery is good -kickstart does not work, sometimes it gets stuck. -electric start will turn but not engage the flywheel 90% of the time.. and it makes a horrible grinding noise 100% i press it. WHAAAAA??? What could it be? I am stumped!

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) It takes inert exhaust gas and mixes it with intake air. Reducing the intake air from 21% O2 to 16% O2 will decrease temperature of the engine which will lower NOx (Nitric Oxide) emissions because NOx is formed at 2800F.

Definitely check/adjust the valve clearances. Intake .10mm / exhaust .15mm. You'll need to unscrew the caps on the valve cover to access the adjusting nuts. Also unscrew the cover by the flywheel on top so you can line up the timing marks before adjusting the valves.

If this helps anyone, I'm working on a Schwinn (chinese) Valo 150 and the TDC mark is on the actual flywheel (attached to the cooling fan). You have to take off the fan cover, and there's almost a needle/arrow machined into the crank case that you line up with the marks on the flywheel. Kind of a bummer they didn't put an inspection port or anything but it's pretty easy to see when you get it apart.

I'm thinking of replacing the Carb, Clutch, Variator, and CV Belt all at once and hope it'll run much better. As for it's idle, it's always been stalling ever since I bought it, but now it always wants to take off on idle. Usually I give it a little gas so it wont but even when I don't I can feel it pulling away. If I do manage to hold it steady without gas, it stalls.

Hello, I had to rebuild my engine gy6 150cc I was able to get it running for a bit. Was able to start very easily as if it were perfect. Got good speed but torque did not seem to strong I am assuming the belt was the problem for low torque because I replaced and it seemed slightly longer than the previous one. Anyway drove it one day and I was pulling off scooter died. Was able to get it started but idled terrible, carb cleaner cleared it up but once I gave it throttle it died. Got a new carb and new starter. Its rolling over and pulling fuel. Spark plug is getting black just trying to start. I am pretty sure it is my valves. When I was rebuilding and setting valves I noticed that tdc both valves were closed but opposite side of tdc (180 degrees). Both valves are open. For the valves to be closed at that point I have to have a the rocker arms open way to wide. Are they supposed to be closed at 180 degrees after tdc. Or do I have something wrong.

I would take a compression reading on the engine when warm. If you get anything under 100psi, then your engine is not properly timed, your cylinder or piston rings are damaged, your valves are not properly set or seating properly, or the head gasket is bad. That is all I can say. Good Luck!

"Placing the scooter on the centre kickstand allows the rear of the engine to drop and allow the oil to drain" Do you need to drain the oil out before doing any of this? If I don't then will need to put some weight in the back end so the bike doesn't rock towards me as the stand seems to be smack bang on the balance point. Maybe its a good idea to drain the oil first?
@electronicsNmore

+electronicsNmore Thanks good idea! :D Its only 3 years old by the way. Lexmoto Tornado 125. I am going through the checklist for possible reasons why it will not idle and dodgey start. Not the idle setting as tested that having the bike running had to hold on the accelerator slightly so would not cut out and adjusted but still cuts out. Motorcycle SOS recoveryguy tested that too when I broke down. Short journey into city. Running fine then came back 5 mins later and would not keep in idle at all! I think bloody road ramps could have caused something the go dodgey! Bloody council... I dont even go fast over them.... Checked battery and tested, got spark for sure. Spark plug in great condition and gap is correct. Cant see anything disconnected or leaking hoses. Do suspect the fuel vacuum pump as they likely to corrode their seal internally but got spare coming anyhow as they regularly go wrong apparently. One of the first things Motorcycle SOS guy suggested. Second part suspect is the auto choke but I have a new spare one of those anyhow :)

Thanks For Watching Larry. Be sure to rate thumbs up and share. If the valves are out of adjustment, the cylinder will not have the proper compression. Everything has to be timed correctly for proper engine operation. If the valve is too tight(likely in your case, then the valve may remain slightly open reducing compression making it harder to start.
