My daughter had similar problems with her old Windstar. I removed the instrument cluster and found cracked/loose solder joints throughout the PC board. Re-soldered all the connections, re-installed and it has worked fine for years. Now the problems have moved to the transmission.

Name is Jackie, I'm having the same problem on a 2009 Toyota Highlander limited, Speedometer would not go above 40 mph and the transmission shifted funny, It appears to be a fairly easy repair to make, its, finding the parts, can be the issue, these parts and numbers , If you have the part number can you list them on the site or are they all different, and easy to find? It was a great job you did on the video. TY looking forward in hearing from you. I live in Centreville, VA I'm on FB also.

Great video. I followed your instructions. My speedometer stopped working and transmission did not shift up more than gear 2 at once. I found that an animal had cut wire for output speed sensor. Now the speed is showing good. but despite of resetting the code and speedometer working properly, it popped up again for the sensor. And it did not solve transmission issue? Can you suggest me the next step? I would really appreciate that.

Hi mate I have an Audi A5 2009 when I turn on the car everything works fine but after some seconds when I’m start driving the speedo goes to zero abs epc esp lights came on and shows me also brake warning contact workshop. If I turn off the car everything goes to normal but after a while is doing the same thing. I was on audi yesterday. They did a Dignostic and they couldn’t find any faults because they told me that my ecu has been upgraded. and when they try to find the faults the computer is crushing and doesn’t show any fault. 1 another guy told that the gateway and the wiring has been changed. I have no idea what the problem is but I have saw many videos of you and u find solutions for everything. Is anything that I can do?

What do you do when you have intermittent speedometer failure and your speedometer is connected to your CAN, ABS, and wheel speed sensors? And you have no codes. And your car's built in self diagnosis tells you that the instrument cluster is bad but when the speedometer starts back working the built in self diagnosis says the instrument cluster is good🤷🏾‍♂️? Oh yeah to change out the instrument cluster you have to remove several dash panels, steering wheel, and driver air bag. All to change out an instrument cluster that may or may not be any good. What do you do?

Is the video the same procedure for a 2009 Highlander Limited? The problem is the speedometer will not go above 40 MPH and it seems the transmission shifts a little funny, this seem to be because of the speedometer not working correctly. I've parked the car till I find the right parts to replace them, I would appreciate it if you would, if you have the part number for the 2009 Toyota Highlander limited. and can send them to me? or where did you purchase them? the 2 correct number for the replacement parts??? Like the ones you replaced on the video. I look forward in hearing from you.

hey man my names Nyxon I’m from brantford , ontario , I would really like if you could try to help me diagnose what’s going on with my car . I own a 2010 Jaguar XF 5.0 premium luxury trim . The cars in great shape and only has 170,000kms . I have scanned it and there are no codes , I’ve swapped air filters , spark plugs , oil , power steering fluid , and coolant . But when I drive the car the rpm and speed gauge go up and down about 5% constantly . It’s really annoying and I really wanna fix it , any suggestions on what could be causing this fluctuation ?! I also wanna note that 10% of the time when starting the car the rpm and speed gauge go below zero for a couple seconds then shoot up to where they should be . Wondering if it’s a bad ground in tachometer ???? Or a bad sensor ? Thanks man !

I did both sensors on a 2002 Hyundai Sonata and guess what?......NO CHANGE. After thinking about these sensors....they are getting their signals from the speed of the engine NOT FROM THE DRIVE AXLES. I noticed there was another sensor on the transmission above the left (driver's axle) it has a plastic toothed gear that drives it and a hall effect sensor mounted on top. That is the one that signals the speedometer to operate. Bought the sensor from ROCK AUTO.

@ggariepy
@ggariepy 3 жыл бұрын
This is a shotgun repair. You didn't diagnose the fault, you simply blasted parts at it. Yes, in a lot of cases it is the sensor. But in other cases it it could be damaged wiring, a bad ground, etc. It's unlikely you needed both sensors, and it's unlikely this will fix every case of the speedometer not working. This would have been a good opportunity to discuss the diagnostic process, show how to examine the codes with an inexpensive code reader, inspect the wiring and grounds, decide for certain what the problem was based on the evidence, and then effect the simple repair. I think this was a missed opportunity for you; you're usually very thorough.
@electronicsNmore
@electronicsNmore 3 жыл бұрын
Far from a shotgun repair. Understanding how the system is set up(wired), I used logic. I told viewers to inspect the connectors on the sensors, so clearly if they see corrosion or a frayed wire, they'd repair that first and test out the speedometer. The odds of (2) sensors failing at the same time is extremely low, but you replace both because you'll save time and money in the long run. You won't get trouble codes for this issue, I checked. You also cannot troubleshoot a sensor that fails intermittently(as in my case), you can only troubleshoot one that failed for good. No opportunity was missed, compared to other videos on this subject, I think I did extremely well explaining, and many people will benefit from the information. Thanks for watching
@TheGodOfAllThatWas
@TheGodOfAllThatWas 3 жыл бұрын
@@electronicsNmore These are actually all really valid points that I think should have been spelled out in the video. Probably in order. So 1: "This is the problem" 2: "This is how it used to work and how it works now" 3: "Won't get codes / checked codes and You can't really troubleshoot a sensor that fails intermittently much, you can only really troubleshoot one that failed for good." 4: pull apart /inspect "IF you see XYZ repair that first and test out" 5: " odds of (2) sensors failing at the same time is extremely low, but you replace both because you'll save time and money in the long run" and then ideally 6: Look its fixed. Then again Perfection is the enemy of Good so not sure how you want to handle that.

@@electronicsNmore So there's a lot here...... I actually did start to take a crack at it, failed and went "nah, I don't care that much". I got the idea that you cared. That's why you even bothered to make the video. I also get the idea that if you spend too much time and effort making it perfect nothing get's done (that's actually a large part of why I don't have videos, and what I said about perfect VS good). I know just enough to get myself into trouble, and haven't spent enough time getting myself out of said trouble to be comfortable to start some of these projects. I was worried after seeing your video others like me would be either over confident and miss things like the wiring, or other things the code reader would help with, OR under confident and not try it because they'd get lost thinking you skipped over "Obvious things" that they'd need to learn first like the code reader. When I saw Geoff's comment I thought those addressed the concerns I had and figured if you just kept less qualified people like me more in mind when making videos it'd make your future videos better. My comments are just my 2 cents. People won't even pick 2 cents off the ground it's so worthless. Pinning Geoff's comment would be a decent alternative to redoing the video, as I understand it for algorithm reasons you don't want to redo videos (again don't know for sure, haven't done enough). I just thought you'd like the video to be more helpful to all audiences, not just the ones who already know what they're doing. I was watching your videos to learn better "What I'm doing". I'm sorry it seems my comments we're perhaps more worthless then the advertised $0.02.

Expense of the replacements would be the critical factor in my decision-if they were cheap enough, I wouldn't hesitate to replace both.
@electronicsNmore

Usually one fails, but you replace both if you're going to pull everything apart. The last thing you want, is to drive for 6 months and have the problem start up again because the other old sensor has failed. They're not that expensive, but if you don't do the repair yourself, you'll likely get ripped off. Thanks for watching!
