What you have to admire with Sorin's repairs is his sense of what's "good enough", this is a skill he demonstrates time and time again in his videos. He could have replaced the LCD and cable but that would have been expensive. Computers are temporary things - we own them for 3-5 years then throw them away, this repair was plenty good enough to last the remaining life of the laptop.

I've run old computers and laptops to avoid having to replace costly equipment (a win2k for 18 years). The trick was to prevent Windows from doing malicious updates. I've run Pavilions 1000 series g7 with wide screen- kept running only thanks to replacement power buttons, keyboards, touchpad boards, display cables and displays. Terrible luck with a more expensive 2000-series g7 A8. When I bought an more recent computer it wasn't an HP and it was based on price because the newer computers are using crap metal, crap boards and will not last by design. I'd rather be out $100 than $500 to $2000 in 3 years.

Repairing the screen was the best option: Changing it meant a high price (lcd+touch screen) and a high probability of poor quality in the touch screen. I have sometimes tried to separate the touch from the LCD on Lenovo screens and I have never succeeded (a huge headache). When I saw the Ikea laptop title... 🤣🤣🤣 I love your way of repairing. Greetings from Spain

I am sure it is possible to replace the screen and having touch working, as long as you order the correct PN from HP. If the screen was broken, it had to be replaced, there is no dodgy repair for a broken screen. But anyway, kudos to Sorin, having that much trouble to fix it.

In 18 minutes he unpacked and repaired. It would take at least that to order part, drag out the computer again to do the repair and that's if HP hasn't "retired the model" Then it's a gamble of whether or not the right part comes in.

Hi Sorin...Or community! I was wondering if you could let me know how you've connected a USB cable to your bench power supply please? To allow you to see the current draw from your repair jobs. The USB has 4 wires inside, and I'm just confused about what to do with D+ and D- wires? I've connected the red and black to my supply, but without the data lines to anything, the current draw is limited by the device somehow, and not by the bench supply. What is the best thing to do with the data wires?

Hello. Mini PC on Intel n100. When turned on, the screen is black, the fan rotates, the radiator heats up, and it consumes about 14W from the outlet (TDP of processor 6); during normal operation, it seems to have consumed about 20W. But even when turned off, it consumes about 10 W and the processor heatsink gets very hot. Processor to be replaced? Can the processor heat up when turned off and consume 10W from the outlet when the processor is alive?

Stupid question for anyone here, Can a laptop board be shorted still if power supply light is on and working normal? I just bought an ASUS G533Z laptop and it has no signs of life at all. But no light flickering or off on PSU. Tried a known working, charged battery, no difference. Thanks
@boof4058 ай бұрын
Yes! The secondary power lines(vcore, ddr, vccsa etc) could be shorted. But it doesnt mean that its shorted as the fault could be anything. Faulty power IC, broken resistors,fuses and so on

I’m a creep who gets a pleasure when someone’s device fixed unless if it’s not software related. ( chip blocks etc don’t give me that pleasure and happiness especially i hate them as a victim and can’t do anything about it with my battery) I got every step and logic except how you spot those 13V’s must connect on inverter board. That’s where i blackout :)
