HERD Elephant Orphanage South Africa

Күн бұрын

Klaserie, Kumbura and Khanyisa spent some time with Adine during a late August morning walk. (Unseen Footage)
Xander, Adine's son, accompanied them to take a few photos of any memorable moments between the elephants. (we will share a few pics from that morning tomorrow).
Shortly before Khanyisa's 10 AM bottle, the cows (females) started to huddle around Khanyisa as she began to rumble, letting everyone know she was hungry and ready for her milk. As soon as Godknows and Adine called, the little elephant dashed to get to her bottle and happily guzzled the milk away as Kumbura watched on as always.

I think Kumbura is Khanyisa’s self-appointed bodyguard, lol. It seems I remember reading that she was also very protective of Timisa when she came to live there. I think she gets it in her head sometimes that SHE knows what’s best for the baby - just ask her! I’ve seen Lundi and Tokwe gently nudge her away, lol, so they can get some alone-time with Lil’ Miss Sunshine.

Good Morning everyone coming from Kathleen in British Columbia Canada. I have missed several vidios while receiving treatments. Cant get WiFi Connection in the hospital. I dont think I noticed the female's getting so agitated during a bush feeding. It makes you take notice just how deeply they love her and view her as their own child. I'm sure her suckling played a great role in that bound. It's still so amazing isnt it how this little baby found near death, then surviving, and now look at her. Does my heart good and I dont get tired of seeing the herd and Little Miss Sunshine along with her human family. 🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❤.

@@cherylpryde3092 Heh Cheryl from Ontario. My father was in the Army " 22 years" so we were moving so often. As the middle of 2 sisters I was born and stayed in Alberta for several years before Dads last posting to B.C. I still consider myself as a PRAIRIE GIRL😉 and miss the seasons. People born in British Columbia think they have 4 seasons. Thank you so much for reading my post and responding. I'm doing the very best I can to hang in there, but the Struggle is real. This is the only channel I now follow out of 6 I followed for years, which were all to do with the struggles of exotic birds who like so many of wild life is being destroyed due to men thinking there is a never ending supply, and worse they are abused and left to die in the most inhumane ways. My mother loved elephants and collected various glass or wood, but NEVER IVORY OF COARSE. About a month back I stumbled onto this channel and that was it for me. What they do for me is often better then any medication I get. Well it's now lunch and was hoping to get a small bit if real food as my feeding tube is being shut off to see how I manage solids. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and wish you and yours the best in the up and coming winter months as I know it starts to snow soon. See you around this channel again. 🥰🐘.

Thank you for this. Elephants are such intelligent and gentle creatures. I am still trying to understand what happened to Doug Groves when he was trampled in late August. Why would a wild elephant trample a human who posed no threat?
@herdelephantorphanage
@herdelephantorphanage 4 жыл бұрын
It is really hard to know the answer to that without having seen the situation. We have to remember they are wild animals, and humans are often seen as threats to them, unfortunately. They can respond from their own fear of the unknown or even the familiar. Poachers, hunters, locals in rural areas who see elephants as a threat to their crops and farms etc. There are so many elements that people often do not consider.

Yes there is!. Nature is quite incredible. And the elephants adapt to the seasons much like the rest of our wildlife during winter!

Hard to believe that elephants gain any weight eating sticks. It would be diet food to me I'm sure.

When you talk to Khanyisa you say something else which could be Afrikaans like "lexicans" or when you call him what does it mean?

Do you allow people to ride the elephants? I read an article about when your lodge was started, that you gave "rides" to the guests. As I have become very interested in elephant sanctuaries, I have read that they do not do this as it is not healthy for the elephant's spine.

Khanyisa tendrá o tiene problemas de visión debido a su situación de albina... Y su piel, logrará reforzarse para soportar el sol africano? De repente veo sectores muy debilitados o inflamados... Gracias!!

I've watched a lot of these videos and have come to one conclusion. Elephants aren't pets, they shouldn't be treated like pets because they are wild animals. People anthropomorphize elephants with the mistaken belief that baby elephants like Khanyisa are like their faithful Boston Terrier. This is a terrible mistake. Take care of the orphaned elephants and set them free back into to wild as soon as possible. They aren't like dogs or cats.

They are not trained!.... They were endangered and injured elephants that needed human help otherwise would have died.
@lonebeagle
@lonebeagle 4 жыл бұрын
@@nancykelly9712 Who said that they are "trained"? I said that people are giving these wild animals human qualities, people are responding to wild elephants like they do to their pet Labrador Retriever. Khanyisa certainly is being treated like a pet. She's being treated better than most people treat their dogs! This isn't good for either elephants or people. It's not uncommon for tourists and others to get killed or injured by elephants in Africa. Videos like those on KZbin that show elephants being "peaceful" and calm animals with attributes just like you find in your pet dog end up getting people killed when they encroach on elephants trying to get a better photo or video.
