While it is amazing to see a different species other than human actually paint, This is almost completely without doubt, a product of trained behavior, perhaps for a reward. It is not so much different from dogs mimicking human words through their limited vocal cords for instance. I would also like to point out that is is clearly noticable that the human dipping the paint brush for the elephant, managed to switch the color of the brush at exactly the right time when the elephant wanted a different color. This is clear evidence to suggest that this elephant has been very carefully and vigorously trained to paint that specific picture, or essentially that specific style of picture.

mike777881 The difference is in the level of cognitive creativity. The elephants 'creativity' is mostly human influenced. People can paint a huge variety of magnificent things, even to the point of inventing new sights never before seen in their mind. As for an elephant, there is just no evidence that they can naturally do that, making it incredibly unlikely.
@jolynekujo51409 жыл бұрын
Sokami Mashibe are you sure about that? most humans can't even draw or paint as beautiful as this elephant does. And there are no brushes is nature neither is paint. Humans always want to feel superior and better as everyone and everything else. Humans certainly are vain full jealous corrupted creatures.
@ufodeath9 жыл бұрын
Jolyne Kujo I don't speak with certainty, just probability. It is very possible that this elephant could be expressions it's natural abilities. But the evidence so far shows this is very improbable.

it's still pretty amazing. Even if it's trained. The paintings are really well done. :)

I don't know any humans who weren't at least shown how to paint or draw, and most people with very good skill have been trained. I don't think it makes it any less impressive. Do you think a great human artist is less impressive because they have had formal art training?

Ojalá me equivoque. Esa bellísima esa pintura, ni a mí me saldría😊😊

Dharmapaalini Nithyananda the animal lives under human lordship meaning it has given up his will to do as is being told just like most humans. but leaving it without any occupation for its food would be torture. this elephant rocks and paints better than most people.

St. Mark There are reserves in Thailand that allow elephants to be elephants. Tourists come and spend the day with them: feed and bathe them, and just hang out. The mahouts stay with them (if they choose to) and these poor abused animals get a life worth having, that should be our goal. www.elephantnaturepark.org/
@markuslebt9 жыл бұрын
i hear you but if animals live in the wild, they live in a cruel world. elephants form matriarchal units led by an old cow and fight for each other. but some predators will just kill another, bit off half a leg an walk away. animals have no school of economics they think like 'animals' literally. if i ever come to asia i will see some elephants in the wild. elephants are majestic and highly inteligent. their proboscis can be used for 1000 things, either throwing poop at mean zoo visitors, or even painting a picture as can be seen here. elephants also live very long. its sad they are being poached now in record numbers in africa, evrytime a country faces an economic crisis, meaning, constantly. most countries now take all ivory right off the elephants, to give poachers no chance. poachers should be skinned alive then coverd in elephant piss an manure.
@redidle9 жыл бұрын
St. Mark I am not one of those people with wild rose colored glasses, but that is the natural order. You are correct elephants are intelligent, much more so than we have been raised to believe. The other aspect is their emotional intelligence which is why captivity is such torture. They have powerful family ties and deeply grieve their family members loss by death or capture. An example of the power of this is the fact that many elephant orphans often simply die when they lose their families. Autopsies show no reason for the death, observation shows profound depression. actionforelephantsuk.org/information/beyond-the-numbers-grief-anguish-orphans/ Also, by removing so many adults we are destroying their socialization, which often put young adult elephants into human conflict because there was no one there to teach them to avoid people. Good luck seeing elephants "in the wild" in Asia, they are going extinct as well, more slowly than Africa, but extinct no the less. Google Elephant Nature Park for one of the great elephant sanctuaries where you can spend the day with former captives who just get to be elephants 24/7
@georgianbents7 жыл бұрын
You obviously know nothing about "the wild" other than what you see on TV that's been made by someone as clueless as yourself. In the "wild" the elephants have each other for protection. What humans do is take a baby away from it's mother and family, isolate it in a cage, and starve and beat the shit out of it until its spirit is crushed, then they beat the shit out of it some more until it learns to do "tricks" like paint a memorized picture. An animal getting killed be a predator in the wild is the way nature operates. Comparing that to assholes that abuse intelligent animals to make money is beyond clueless.

For those who want to know how this magic trick is done, read on below. For those who want to believe fantasies, stop reading. OK, so this is the trick. The elephant has no idea what it's going to paint. Elephants aren't artists. The way this trick works is that the elephant is "trained" (by all accounts I've ever seen, quite brutally) to hold the paintbrush in the trunk, and then move the trunk as directed by the mahout (trainer), who pulls on the elephant's ear. Essentially, the elephant just becomes a giant living remote control arm, where the trunk is the arm, and the ear is the joystick. If a mahout directs the paintbrush this way, you'll get any painting you want (that you pay for), including written words in any human language (that you pay for). If you look around on KZbin and other video sites, you'll find plenty of evidence of this. Just key in "Elephant writes" and you'll see for yourself. Usually, that's enough to shatter the delusion and realize it's just a parlor trick. See, there's a reason why you get these miracle paintings only from elephants in tourist traps in Thailand, and the most you'll ever get out of an elephant in an honest zoo is some random paint splotches. It's because elephants DON'T actually paint pictures/words. They just steer their trunks in the direction that the mahout guides. I seriously wonder who would pay $180 for an elephant painting if they realize that it's all just a trick. But, an amazing thing happens, once someone pays the $180, they're almost impossible to convince that they've been duped by a trick. Once someone falls for the trick, that's it, you can't convince them that they were tricked, and they'd rather believe in the miracle instead.
They are not trained or abused in order to do this! They are talented and even smarter than we are. I bet that elephant can come to your house and kill your ass if it wanted to!
@katebeme8 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to say, but I don't belief this. There must be some sort of trick to this
@Onda_Wilde8 жыл бұрын
No trick. They do so because they are tortured. Sadly from the childhood of the elephants on. Please look for "Phajaan". The Mahout besides holds a wooden stick with a sharp end. The 'tool' is named "bullhook".
