Elephants are in that top group, together with dolphins, octopuses and certain parrots, as the most intelligent animals behind humans. And they are propably the longest living animal in that group. So their intelligence has possably the largest impact on their lives of all animals, besides humans.

You don't realise how big and beautiful these animals really are until you get to see one yourself. One day I got the chance to see an elephant from a distance of around 10 foot. It's was a big one. That day I realised how big and majestic these animals really are.

In Guruvayur, a temple in India that owns many dozens of elephants, a few are brought inside the temple for ceremonies. I have stood before those magnificent elephants and could not help but feel only reverence for them. I have felt humbled by my insignificance in the presence of one of nature's grandest, greatest and gentle creations. It is an honor to live in the same planet as these creatures.
