This trip I could have gotten some more of the docking set ups but leaving the dock in pitch black didn’t help for any footage. Lake Huron is not to be messed with. Several years ago a friend from work invited me to go on a fishing trip. We took the Saginaw River to Lake Huron. Started out as a pretty nice day, but took a turn for the worst. There is a man made island not to far from the mouth of the river that we took cover behind because it would have been too rough to fish otherwise. After a couple of hours of fishing we notice many big yacht's struggling to get back to the river so we decided to cut the day short and head back ourselves. Turns out the waves were now too big for the boat we were in so we all put our life vests on and we began to zig zag to avoid hitting the waves head on. It tooks us what seemed like forever to get back to the safety of the river. I had always heard of stories when people got in trouble on Saginaw Bay (which is part of Lake Huron). We learned that lesson the hard way.

Seems like a long boat ride, when they could've just delivered to Chicago instead. Why deliver to Cleveland and then boat to Chicago?
@ElevateYacht7 ай бұрын
The boat comes directly from France, on a freighter. Cleveland is the closest large shipping port to Chicago that accepts such large ships. This vessel is too tall and wide to ship across land. Thanks for watching and for the good question.

I was wondering if you could not fast forward during your docking process so we can hear what instruction you would give. Also, are fenders really needed on a fixed dock?? They don’t seem to be doing much.. One more thing, if you ran the boat at 80 percent of rated wide open throttle, you would get a more efficient cruising speed/fuel economy versus .42 total mpg @ 2700 rpm. Great video!
@ElevateYacht8 ай бұрын
I commented once to another question, but yes I should and can in the future slow the docking. The dockings during this trip weren’t overly technical since most delivery trips consist of laying up along a T dock or face dock. We don’t always know the dock situation ahead of time so we always have fenders deployed but find that many places in MI have fixed docks with large pylons protruding making fenders useless like you see here. We were running the boat at 70-80% throttle as recommended by the manufacturer. Efficiency is not the number one priority on a delivery trip like this since we are working to get the brand new vessel back to Chicago to start the detailing and sales process so time is of the essence with a mid summer delivery. If it were an owner owned vessel and we were punching Pennies, yes efficiency is important. Thank you very much for watching and for your great questions and feedback. Cheers! Glad you enjoyed the video

@ElevateYacht7 ай бұрын
I do think an owner operator couple can definitely handle larger vessels. Generally, the larger they get, the easier they get to maneuver. Different style vessels may take longer to learn depending on technology and engines. The team would definitely need some practice and training to get up to speed, especially when jumping from 30 to 72, but with proper training and practice, I do think it’s doable.

Hello @elevateYachts 😊 I heard from another experienced captain that he had very bad experience with the X70 when having side waves so that the boat was indeed feeling unstable and shaky even though the waves have not been particularly high! That shocked me as rhe X60 has probably a very similar hull as the X70. Can you relate to that in terms of your X60 driving experience? Many Thanks for the Feedback in advance, Martin
@ElevateYacht11 күн бұрын
Hey Martin, sorry for the delay, I could have sworn I already replied to this but it was while over in Cannes so maybe something didn’t load correctly… So first thing I can say is that I have not yet captained an X70, so I can’t speak directly to how she handles underway. I also don’t know the exact conditions and wave directions they were experiencing. Did they have seakeeper on? What other vessels is this captain used to handling, etc…Many factors to take into account but sure some side waves (guessing he means beam seas?) especially large ones can make any vessel feel less comfortable… I can say I was pretty impressed how the X60 handled in the waves we experienced during our trip in this video, not completely beam seas but mostly quartering seas and those can cause some discomfort. Since then, I haven’t gotten her out in many other rough condition days so not many other trips to go off of. Either way, I know we were emailing in the past and were unable to connect for a phone call. Happy to try and reschedule if you’d like to chat more… Thanks for watching and commenting as always !
