For over hand serves at my school, no one knows what top spin or floaters are except my two friends who play travel. We were taught to just toss, two steps, then hit it. Almost everyone serves a floater. It sucks so much cuz it’s so hard to receive

After a month and a half of learning, I finally learned how to a float serve. Now every time I do it, I get this amazing feeling of satisfaction when I see it floating randomly in the air with absolutely no spin that increases greatly when I see the receiver having trouble deciding how to hit the ball, which then feels EVEN better when I score an ace. Thanks man, you really helped me! Next stop, jump serves!

Definitely going to try out this coach, I have been doing a basic overarm serve in volleyball but I've become interested in these advanced serving techniques because sometimes i manage to make my serves float on accident (without thinking or attempting to make them float) but most times they have some top spin. :D great video!

I want to honor "Smitty" Duke I also knew him as "Doss" former Olympic competitor at the 1968 Olympics, and got a silver medal for the national team in Colombia, he had a great number of accomplishments that are worth looking into. He would drive from Eureka Springs Arkansas to Fayetteville Arkansas 2 times a week to play some incredible volleyball with the Ozark Volleyball Club, we called noon ball. He made extra 50 mins trips to come and teach me one on one some of his excellent skills. He had a float serve that could drift 5 feet, this put nerves in the best passers for sure! God rest your soul Horace Smith "Smitty" Duke, thank you for your kindness and passing on you expertise. Also I'm sorry I was so shocked by your perfect diving save set into the bleachers that I was unable to spike that perfect set, please console him Lord Jesus.

I'm really looking forward to learn this serve, I've been playing for three years and I really wanted to be able to serve effectively. It was kinda weird with my previous coaches, they didn't really teach us how to serve and then they blamed us for "giving away" points at tournanents, because we were all beginners and couldn't really get points by spiking either. We were playing in 19U but most of us had only played for two or three years, so it was no wonder that we couldn't beat thr others, who have been playing for 6 and more years. Now they split us up into those who they thought can make progress faster that the others and those who were too old to play 19U. We now have a new coach and we are learning everything the previous ones didn't teach us, stuff like an overhead serve, spiking and blocking.

I honestly don't like floaters or jump floaters in general. To get the ball to the left side of me I toss it with both hands and hit it on the side of the ball to create a side spin, but aiming in the opposite direction of me, slightly facing away from my target and adding more spin to increase the effect of it travelling to the left side of me. A bit less predictable also

You have no idea about the mechanics of the float serve :D The ball does not move unevenly, but it is severely slowed down just because the air is displaced evenly. The wobbling is occasional, due to the possible air currents in the gym. The "freezing" actually gives more speed (as opposed to accuracy). This is basic physics: the law of impulse preservation.

@@GAn1ms So the less time your hand is on the ball the less spin it gets. That's why for a normal over hand your hand doesn't freeze it goes through the ball... More spin...

It's not on the hand. It's on the shoulder and right leg. Strength comes from right leg pivot and shoulder with strong palm.
@michaelg8841

Hand strength isn’t it. It is your shoulder, core, and leg. Arm strength can help, but it isn’t nearly as helpful to work that out as your shoulder, core, and legs.

@@tangerines5822 you should have a toss that is a couple feet above your head. Once you have that down, work on your timing.

PLEASE READ THIS thre is a very easy way on how to serve (even if you don't have any power in your hands😂) you just throw it low and than do 3 or 2 steps and than just use as much power as you can. i had a lot of problems before i figured that out.
