Also another thing like it was pointed out from other users, is that an abandoned carrier can be a gameplay opportunity right there. With the heavy carrier being what we essentially have now. Capable of holding all the modules, and a very large number of pads. This vision also had the medium and light carriers being more limited, fewer pads, less room for modules, etc. But critically... less expensive to acquire and operate. More variety, more customization, more value. I can hold out hope that the future of carriers will include something similar. I appreciate your content, ObsidianAnt. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

What I like for fleet carrier is the ability to create an AI wing to use either on bounty hunting or mining. This would be great for commanders like me who manly play in solo mode. Just like in ship launch fighter, you can have fleet carrier pilots you can assign a ship too. This ability would add a lot of depth to solo and open play. You can have specific commands for fighting, mining and exploring, telling the AI to return to the carrier if they are too damaged, or in mining to return materials to the carrier. For mining you can then create a proper mining fleet, or have a protection wing.

Why it is full decommission? Why they can't implement it differently, If carrier gains debt or is not used for some time instead of decommissioning, don't give player 5B, just make carriers "invisible" in game so they don't "clog things up" If you need to punish somehow player for not playing for long time, once he comes back send him info "hey your carrier was drifting unattended for some time you need to reactivate it" Simple task, you need to dock to it, pay debt that time if you won't its not operational and disappears as soon as you log off Being forced to fly back to place where you can buy carrier again just because you took a break from game on the other side of galaxy is to punishing IMHO, I much rather have to pay some fee to reactive it on the spot It could be even a few step process, pay smaller fee to reactivate some functionality (like cartographic) to earn more money to fully restore it

Definitely a huge step in the right direction. Decommissioning still needs to go, though - it's not great for deep space explorers who don't have the motivation to bank up significant credits before taking an extended break, for example. Whilst this scenario wouldn't happen much, there's also no real reason to take their carrier (see also: safety net, mobile base) even if they're fully refunded. Instead, carriers should go silent when a player takes a long enough break - they drop off the system map and can't be instanced into unless the friend of a player who's already docked and instanced in it wakes in. The owner comes back on, gives the crew the signal and it lights back up. As an aside, I noticed a glaring flaw with the galaxy map's handling of carriers: They appear individually. Instead, they should "stack", with more than one carrier around a body showing as one icon and a number signifying how many there are. Finally, real time upkeep should be shown the door. By all means, have a levy on all carrier services, or upkeep that depends wholly on use, but not a real time ticking bomb.

did they remove the upkeep costs? They can still have an automatic decommision after a 2-month inactivity period without upkeep costs
@MordethKai4 жыл бұрын
They also need to replace automatic decommissioning with temporary mothballing.

This already sounds a lot better. Now one last thing i would really like to see is watching the ship jump from the bridge. It is my ship after all, so there's no reason why i shouldn't be on the bridge. And yes; i would like the crew to earn their wages by making sure the ship is ready to go where i want it to go, even when i'm not on board.

Be cool if something like inter-Squadron Module sharing could be a thing. Like you'd enable an individual Module to be shared with your squadron. Hell, one better would be the ability to sell your own Ships/Modules on your fleet carrier. Sell an engineered and kitted Krait MKII for a hiked price for example. With Paintjob etc. Can't sell lower than 20% reduction of the original Krait or something so it can't be excessively abused, but can sell as high as you like. Selling engineered Modules and personally kitted ships would be cool. Make money in PowerPlay weapons etc, you went through the month wait, someone else might pay handsomely for not having to do that.

Where dose squadron's fit in everything? I have heard very little this topic, can squad mates add to the carriers bank account? Move the ship, purchase or sell items? Any feedback would be great
@Julianna12204 жыл бұрын
questions like this just do not account for the human capacity to game the game to do just about anything you want to with it. just think of one aspect....... now you have a bank. if i need to go any further with this to get you to understand, your just not thinking this through. and you should probably read a bit more in the forums.

Locking carriers behind squadrons would have been a bad move, but letting squadrons own and operate one as a group would have been nice.

They are moving in the right direction but still a long way to go. Personally, I'm not going to be mining for tritium for hours on end just to jump my carrier across space while exploring. They need to add class 12 fuel scoops and allow the carriers to charge next to stars while in cool down.
@dasraffnix94714 жыл бұрын
This is great and all. But that it wasn't like this from the beginning is still scary. I hope the next era doesn't need so much player involvement to be good.
@Markoz9584 жыл бұрын
Good news, but I will only know how good it really is once the beta comes out next week. I would also be a lot happier if there was another form of fuel which DOESN'T REQUIRE MINING, or spending a huge amount of money on Tritium. In fact, I would prefer that it came with a fuel scoop, and scooped fuel from a star, even if it took 5-10 minutes to get a full tank!

Thank you PC players for biting the bullet for all of us everywhere. I'm a Xb1 player and I haven't played Elite in like 8 months. But the announcements of Fleet Carriers got me back into it. To the tune were I grinded my money to make sure I could participate in the 2nd Beta and I'm anxiously awaiting Monday! Seems like this Beta will be a lot better than what you guys had to deal with.

I starting playing again after a 21 week break. I bet you were in the same situation as me: all your ships were exactly where you left them, in the exact condition you left them in. Why does it feel like pulling teeth trying to get FC to the point where they don't actively punish you for not playing a game?

So what happens if (for argument sake), I dock at obsidianants carrier, which has a shipyard, and purchase a ship. I obviously have to leave a ship there, but what happens to that ship if obsidian decommissions the carrier when my ship is docked or in storage there?

I feel like they missed a golden opportunity to tease space legs by letting players Walk around their carriers
@smokinggnu65844 жыл бұрын
All the changes so far to the carriers from the initial stats are excellent. But i agree with the devs on the Decommissioning stance, as having hundreds or thousands of unused map assets in the game would certainly clog up the servers eventually. I might just get back into the game and start mining again for this.

Question... if carriers are persistent objects.. would you carrier also exist in all instances and modes at the same time? as in would it be there for everyone whether they be in solo, open och private groups?
@Blackatchaproduction4 жыл бұрын
so still no reason to hop back into the game. no point in a carrier if you cant make a profit from it. still a money sink. no improvements to any other part of the game. just bug fixes and nerfs. people wanted atmospheric landings. NOPE! we get a money sink and a mining nerf that was never needed. bounty hunting is still a waste of time considering the profit vs risk....smfh.....

What exactly do these carriers offer that's new gameplay? I'm going to guess practically nothing to zero...
@xxpoisonblxx4 жыл бұрын
Huge paradigm changes were *never* slated for this update, either when it was originally slated or in its delayed state. "Space legs" and atmospheric landings weren't going to happen before New Era, period. There's also no guarantee they'll happen *in* New Era, they've been very tight lipped on that one.

I always thought Fleet Carrier's were meant for Wings, or player groups instead of singular player owned ships, judging by their cost and upkeep
@omicronixzerus29294 жыл бұрын
Most thought the same. FDev made it very clear that shared ownership and useful fleet carriers constituted too much work on their part. When asked if they could be used for powerplay the fdev rep literally chuckled and said "obviously not," as if it was a good thing.

Nah, that would be horrible if they added whole new ship classes that can only be owed by multiple people. They already screw over people who only want to play Single. Remember that we were promised way back since the start of the Kickstarter that the game will cater just as much to those playing Single. It was a promise. Based on which many people backed the game in the first place and made it possible to exist. So if they started to make something like this Multiplayer-Only I and many others, many among those who made this game possible to begin with would feel betrayed. More so than we already are.

Will any of the third party API such as INARA or EDDI support carrier locs? ie.. if we're in the black and need to find services will we be able to find a player carrier to save our ass?

there's still some things that NEED to be changed: -there was nothing about upkeep. that has to go. completely. -automatic decomissioning is still BS, at least as long as we can't save the loadout to buy it again the same way every few months when we don't wanna play. if it's possible for NPCs to come out to beagle point or whereever your carrier happens to be just to take it apart and bring the parts home, it surely also is possible for them to just fly it to some station where you can get it back. i'd rather pay 1M every few months to get my carrier back instead of going through the hassle of outfitting it every time -what happens to ships, modules and goods that are in the carrier when it's being decomissioned? that has to be stored somewhere as well as it seems to be now, i wont play the game again. i was hyped for carriers but FDev does everything they can to make it as unpleasant as possible and having something exciting in the game that's designed to be shitty makes me not wanting to play the game because the exciting thing wouldn't be fun

I still don't see why there has to be a full decommission instead of a "dry dock" type deal. Pay a (relatively) small fee to "store" the ship (simply remove the physical ship but have the data still stored) and a again relatively small relaunch fee to restore it

I still don’t understand why the decommissioning has to actually delete the carrier. Why can’t it just hide it or delete it but save the record so you can instantly reorder the same carrier with the same setup in one step. It just seems like a lazy way to deal with the problem.

I had been planning on using a FC as a tool to bridge big jumps between systems in distant parts of the galaxy where things are sparse. But, if I have to step away for a while because of life circumstances, I could very well wind up stranded, hundreds of LY from the nearest system, with no option left but to self-destruct. Seems... lame.

I'm surprised they're listening, but they're listening. It's not good that I'm surprised, and it's not good that they were SO MUCH off base, but they're listening... now if someone at FD actually started playing this game, maybe we wouldn't have to go through all this drama at every update...

So...I think that Frontier needs to seriously consider their PVP options here...create some kind of space for Squadrons to go toe-to-to in a Guild vs Guild type battle arena (which could consist of various designated areas in the galaxy and fleet carriers could be implemented in that somehow...like you'd have a certain amount of respawns of your ships (no normal death costs or anything) and the team that survives wins and you get leaderboards, payouts/rewards. Maybe even Squadrons can place bets or there can be places in Starports where you can place bets? I mean there needs to be something like this to create excitement around a game that currently, has very few reasons for players to ever interact. They need to create designated racing courses as well as create small "ship-launched racers" that you can buy and "supe up" and then take to the raceways (which could be hosted at designated starports around the Bubble (with some on the outer rims of populated space that serve as "Top Tier" racing league courses). I mean, there just needs to be more depth like this in the game. The ships are beautiful, wonderful and still exciting for me to check out, but the gameplay itself is repetitive. Creating these cool in-universe areas for players to congregate and race/battle/etc (built into the game as specific modes in the world) is what this game is missing. There is no reason for players to congregate, to chatter, to do such things. I would love to see a world where the above become a thing as well as of course, space-legs and atmospheric landings. THEN this game would be the absolute best space game ever. In other words, they need to start thinking of this game as a potential space MMO if they're going to keep it afloat. (Maybe they don't intend to keep it afloat though...).
