You are the first person who makes E:D guide videos and I applaud you for saying the one key thing everyone misses the point with - PLAY THE GAME AS A GAME. It grinds my gears to hear people telling other players to only do the "credits per hour" BS. I play the game to RP and have fun! ANY credits you earn all add up, it doesn't matter as long as you make something

Exploration and smuggling are the best for playing for the fun of it. Currently flying out to V1357 Cygni as a shakedown run on my slightly engineered Phantom. Not but about 2k ly from the bubble but should help bolster my rank a bit.

Nice video. In my experience, 'going frosty' isn't required - so long as you approach straight on and have a fast enough speed, even if they start scanning you, they won't be able to finish. Having a ship that can move fast, handle well, and confidence in flying is important for that. You get to keep your shields on that way. It can also be tense and exciting. CMDR Orosian o7

I use silent running and heat sinks during my Robigo passenger smuggling with my passenger conda, helps add a bit of suspense and my thrusters are under-tiered for weight reasons so helps me not crash into the back due to high speed xD

great vid, if stations are near a moon or planet the slot will be facing it so just fly between the station & the moon for a while, if you can also do the SC trick to drop out closer to the station unless its been changed the security patrol will take longer to get to you than it takes you to dock without heatsinks or SR

Ah... the famous Kaukamine Landmines Run. Also never worry about money, basically all you do with it is buy and equip new ships. Or brag about how much of it you keep in the bank. And pro-tip: when you become allied with the faction controlling the station, you won't be scanned at all. You can do missions for that faction, but you can also sell exploration data to shift your allegiance towards them.

If only I could get smuggling in and out of Nanomam. I'm allied with the Earth Defense Fleet, lol. Been using Gresley Dock as a home station and selling all my data there. I've only been scanned once in a few weeks of flying in and out of there, and I think it was because I was looping around the station FA off with my hardpoints out like a maniac, waiting for people to jump away so I can get engineering mats off their high wake.

I'm an old player (pre horizons) that recently picked this game back up. I mostly focused on combat back when I was playing. This time I'm looking for a different experience, and thinking this is likely the path I'll take for a while. Something about your video struck me though, FDev I think is missing out on an amazing game play mechanic. When you become allied with the ruling faction at any given space port, you should be able to hire into the security force that patrols around the port, scanning ships and defending the port, whatnot like that. And instead of these "assassinate this ship or that ship" you can patrol so many light seconds around a post looking for pirates intradicting cargo runners and traders.

+Martin Heinsius Many people think rushing a bigger ship is what it's all about. But I don't like that approach, it ruins the immersion for me. I like using every ship, even if it's lower in standing than what I normally use. It adds challenge and fun to the game.

Get enhanced thrusters for the Hauler boosting in at +500 is a great way to outrun a scan.

@Mia Marshall you just have to unlock or be invited to any engineers who do thrusters and have a small ship preferably an adder since they can fit both then have put into storage. Be prepared to pay 5 million though also enhanced thrusters can be engineered making any argument that engineering your own thrusters is better not as good unless the enhanced thrusters don't fit.

as a relatively new player myself, he is absolutely right. At first i did wanna get some credits per hour, but after a bit, i just joined pilots trade network and did some unloading/loading on fleet carriers to station(or vice versa). After getting my elite trade rank loading to station(cant get it loading on carrier), i decided it was best to try different things that may not be the most per hour. I am not going to certain plants to do massive resets for engineering materials. You absolutely do need to make your own fun. Also again you should find a group of people to join. Pilots trade network, mobius, and other groups are good for that.

alright, so back when i used to smuggle, neither chaff nor the temperature of your ship affected scans done by npcs, so i don't know if what your doing there will actually help you. however npc scans seem to require line of sight on their target, so you're generally safe once you're though the mail slot.

+khmnc From what I understand of temp. After a certain distance, if you are cold you won't be able to be detected.

well the npcs have a scan range of about 1km, so again i don't really know if this is going to help you as they have to be almost hugging you to scan you already.

So that's how to drop in front of the mail slot thanks before I'd either hang back and see which way ships would enter/leave or use the docking comp. Then hit the throttle to override and then decrease once inside

Kevin Hewitt another tip: on the coriolis stations, on the side without the slot there are four red lights on the corners. On the side with the slot the lights are white.

One thing i love about elite is that you're not running around trying to make your money's worth on a sub like eve i.e. and that makes me worry less about the money i make ingame and more about having fun

If you enable Silent Running in the middle of a scan, does that prevent the manifest scanner from detecting your cargo? Do you need to be silent running already, or can you do it reactively?

D-rating and no engineering saves on weight. Engineering makes your module heavier, so he'd need to engineer the power plant, thrusters AND the FSD to compensate, doubling if not tripling the material requirements and time investment. You wanna play the game for fun, not grind every time you play.

Honestly, Ive smuggled in a type 7. You tend to be a bigger target so easier to scan. So maybe an Asp Explorer or Scout.

You get caught if you forget you’re carrying something illegal and forget to try to avoid the scan. Also, if smuggling to a planetary base, the heat sink is pretty much mandatory because you can’t just zip through the mailslot at speed and be home free to land at your leisure - you could be scanned during any time until you touch down.

sirenia Yeah, I think docking computer is probably not your best bet, but I’ve never tried - will it work with silent running and can you still pop a heat sink when your ship starts overheating? Note that the same techniques are required when hauling wanted passengers (except worse because rather than fines, you’ll get shot at if scanned). Anyway, I find it fun and exciting for the sake of variety. It’s hardly required though, there’s plenty of legal CR to be made by trading legal goods. o7 CMDR!

You dont need the dlc to smuggle. To go to planets you do. But for general smuggling you dont.
