Rule of thumb is its always more expensive to buy the parts to build from barebones. There is also the issue of sourcing the correct antennas, if they are not already in the barebones. Another thing to consider with a CPUless machine, are bent pins in the CPU socket.

Been burnt on both. Thankfully not too big of a financial hit 😉

I'm a builder. I bought elitedesk barebone. I used my spare ddr4 and nvme. Still wait for the processor, an i7 with T processor. By the way, great video as always. Thank you for the video 🙏🙏

Very welcome. The EliteDesks make it easy to have that choice to build it up from the bare mobo.

A $29 G3 barebone with leftover CPU and memory is the way to go

I have to build up a cache of CPUs. Thinking of getting something cheap like i3s

Barebones can be tricky, I had one with bent cpu pins, but the price was low, and I just parted it out to what I needed for other units. Rather build with one with an included CPU that has been tested.

For me it's the cost of the CPU. That's why I stress the need to decide at the beginning which one you want to use and check the price.

Great video. I bought an Elitedesk G3 with 8gb 6500 processor (not t) 500gb hard drive but because I got it so cheap a barebones was nearly just as much. So I upgraded with an i5 7500 (£18) 16GB DDR4 (£19) and an nvme 256gb for (£12) so got a few bits left over which can go to another project.

That's the best of both worlds. A cheap working unit you upgrade and have parts for a second one. Especially since they are social animals and require you to buy more of their kind 😉

interesting thingy, never heard of these are there any with PCIe ports to put a gpu in? maybe some pcie x4 x8 could be repurpoused or converted since it has many m2 slots

The G4 and G5 have an optional GPU but the performance is not great. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGmXZ4Oqa65gna8si=sE5QHUxv_GZ2lYwz is a video from the Toasty Bros. Other folks have used M.2 to PCIe as adapters to add a GPU but you need to leave the top off and get additional power.
