"From the lifters, for the lifters.", that's our meet's motto and I'm of the opinion that this is how any meet director should think.

That point about the 900 lb squat was pretty profound, especially in light of the remote/online coaching culture that's at its heyday right now. You can really only impart the knowledge and experience that you yourself embody.

Awesome video!! Good thing my coach has had 1,003 on his back so I won't have that problem when I ultimately get there

being in it for the "money" isn't bad, nor is there any correlation that trying to earn a living from it means you don't love the sport. Just by choosing one sport over another (and it doesn't even have to be a sport, it could be some other business idea) means that you like/prefer/enjoy that sport to some degree. An argument could be made that not trying to find a way to monetize powerlifting is ultimately detrimental to the sport. It does take time and effort to become good at something. Getting compensated for that isn't bad. Industries that have a sound financial model behind it, end up doing better than those who don't. I also have no problems with the meet that has 5 platforms and 500 lifters. The entry fee may be high, but when you think about the size of the venue, the number of weights both for the platform and warm up rooms, the number of volunteers - referees, spotters, loaders, time keepers, etc., it's a lot of work and very resource intensive. It may be a "one day" meet, but it took a lot longer than one day to put that thing together, and it's going to take more than a day to wrap that meet up. It sounds like that meet is trying a strategy that may make a lot of sense. Lets' not forget there are a lot of different sports (like Tennis, BJJ, beach volleyball, etc) that require multiple platforms to put on. I've also seen small meets that really beat up the people running them because they don't have enough volunteers to get everything done. In some ways, the ultimate problem with this "love of sport" idea is that so many people who view it that way end up just taking and never giving back, and for the ones who actually do give back, they often get sucked dry by the grinders who think everything should be free and for the love of the sport.

Hey, I was curious why in some videos of Dave Tate recovering from surgery he does high box squats, Spider Bar, and Cushion. Dave Tate doesn't do anything without a reason, that much is clear. Can someone explain the point of this maneuver or direct me to a video where he explains it? I would love to hear his explanation and reason for programming. Also he has done this movement for atleast 6 years so there must be a good reason!

Sam Sanders his shoulders have no mobility, his hips have been replaced (I believe), and he doesn’t need to squat below parallel for the purpose of meets. Most current competitors squat too low anyway just because they don’t wear unlimited gear and don’t want to be criticized on social media.

The idea that a bunch of fools , none of whom judge , can get lifts overturned on the Internet is moronic .Thats not good change .thats shit ! Why not just lift in your garage , film it , and send it to the self professed powerlifting experts and have them judge them .
