The later Queen called Dudley "Robin" and "my eyes". She kept his last letter to her in her bedside treasure-box until her death. "Elizabeth R", with Glenda Jackson and Robert Hardy, has them finally agreeing to marry, at long last. But she is late to the church, and he has his pride. Bittersweet.

Elizabeth R just means Elizabeth Rex meaning queen. It's nothing to do with the nickname. All the monarchs sign their letters with that

I think Elizabeth was wise to not marry anyone during her reign. I've heard the rumor Dudley waited for years especially after his first wife's death but since she's not ever going to marry him (I mean DANG, it's at least 18 yrs he's waited for Elizabeth), his attention turned to Lettice Knollys (Elizabeth's grand niece), whom everyone said resembled young Elizabeth.

Elizabeth was the love of his life, when she was imprisoned under her sister Mary, he even sold his estates to help her with money. If he had only wanted power, he would have married Mary Stuart, whom Elizabeth offered to him

@@OcarinaSapphr- I am saying he would've taken it seriously. He was upset by the news because he wanted to stay in England. If he couldn't marry Elizabeth, he would marry no other Queen. He wanted only Elizabeth. Only later when he realized he couldn't have her, he relented, yet he stayed committed and loyal to her as Queen his whole life.

Robert Dudley's devotion to Elizabeth was proven a hundred times during her life and her reign. They had a deep bond and nothing destroyed it. She was no fool. She would know if someone only wanted her favor for his own advantage. Also, when they first met as children and later while she was out of favor, he had no idea she would be queen someday. But he stuck with her, through thick and thin.

It's very unlikely they would have been allowed to marry. Besides, as teenagers, they were friends. Their more romantic attachment seems to have developed later.

@@Lily1127channel im sorry my initial comment is inaccurate; i meant to intent that this comment was for a different video from the same series but from a different scene; but not involving Robert Dudley; cant remember who it was but most definitely included Elizabeth I; upon rewatching it again i realized of my initial mistake; totally not related to this clip which made no sense in regards to this video; and yes you are absolutely right that they were childhood friends; my apologies and i stand corrected; im now very intrigued as to where i messes up; i gotta go back to see where was it that i indented this comment for; lol
