Jay Zenitram idk, if it was a couple then yeah who cares, but every time someone talks about Bloomberg or Buttigieg they make short jokes. I mean what does a person’s physical appearance have to do with anything? They are presidential candidates, America needs to wake up and pay attention to what actually matters. It strikes me as pretty juvenile. I get the criticism that this is political correctness gone too far etc etc. but actually shorter people are less likely to be ceos and hold positions of power, less likely to receive a tertiary education, on average earn less that average and above average height individuals. Height discrimination is real, I just think that is incredibly stupid, and when there are so many valid criticisms of Bloomberg, why would his height come up so frequently?

Chris Markham Warren punches down. Her sexism smears against Sanders and frequent attacks of his base finally got my 71yr old mother to switch her support to Sanders. Warren plays the Clinton identity politics game with these ‘Yazz Queen!’ staged moments and her supporters apparently think they’re meaningful while ignoring her support of Trump’s increased military spending year over year, reauthorization of the patriot act, support of Trump’s new NAFTA bill (something even Chuck Schumer couldn’t support) among other issues and credibility gaps. You’ll notice Warren only went after Bloomberg on behalf of women and not people of color. Her 4th/5th place finishes mean she has largely failed to capture the 15% needed of the vote to win delegates. She is expected to do even worse in SC. She has no coalition or mass appeal among ethnicities and age groups. With the Superdelegates gearing up to deprive Sanders of the nomination if he does not pass the 51% threshold (reported in the NYT yesterday) a vote for Warren might as well be a vote for Trump. If Sanders is stripped of the nomination by superdelegates while winning the popular vote it will split the Democratic Party (if not destroy it), suppress voter turnout, and provide an easy path to victory for Trump who will remind and energize his base with how corrupt the democrats are that they cheated Sanders of the nomination.

M. D. True, but the term “Bernie Blackout” didn’t come around because of alliteration. “The news” would go as far as not putting his name on the polls he was on top of. I think his socialist ideas are scaring people. Everyone’s so fucking caught up in what other people have and get, and what they should get and deserve. I believe that there’s plenty to go around, we produce more food than is needed to feed the planet but yet so much of it is wasted because no one buys it. People would rather let food go bad and not make money on it then give it to people who could eat it. And yes there are caveats to that, where people, companies, and organizations have tried to get that would be wasted food into hungry mouths. But unfortunately people take advantage of that and bite the hand that’s literally trying to feed them. And for a one payer healthcare system, want to know who loses out on that deal? Insurance companies. Companies that are supposed to make access to healthcare easier but are usually the BIGGEST hurdles to overcome when getting care. Why do they exist? They’re basically gambling houses playing odds on people’s health for profit. If you don’t use it they win, if you use it too much they fucking raise your fees or just cut you. That’s assuming you don’t have an illness that requires treatment that isn’t covered in the first place. Why not take all the insurance money we already pay put it towards a national healthcare coverage plan so anyone can go see any doctor anywhere. FFS just let me pay my taxes and go see a doctor why does someone other than the medical staff make any money of me getting a fucking cold checked out. /rant

So you do some serious team effort, make Sanders look like the victim of everything we all hate about the DNC since 2016: Rigged caucus, Media bias, corporate centrists, rich schmucks playing god, establishment Party hacks freaking out about how to stop his "socialisms". They knew how popular he was in '16. If this is all engineered to make him the People's Champ vs The System, it's working. We thought about this last year. That Biden was always unelectable, so he becomes a Red Herring and takes all the bad shots for everyone else. He never had the votes, and they knew that. No real popular support other than bogus numbers the News gins up. So he takes one for the team and becomes the target of Republicans while everyone else works out a REAL candidate. And it worked. It suckered Conservative media, pissed off independent and Democratic voters, and most importantly: made Donald Trump commit an act that got him impeached. If that was Joe taking a fall by being a willing target, it worked better than the DNC could have dreamed.

70% of the votes in NV were cast before the debate. A single Twitter user just raised $100,000 for her in 24 hours by complaining about the ending to an obscure HBO show and she's well on her way to raising another $200,000 to spill some tea about a certain sitting Senator. Warren's also polling 2nd in the nation now. Fuck yes we're energized!

I was really frustrated that Warren didn't run in 2016 and I was glad to see her enter the 2020 race, but I've been dismayed to see her indulge so much in identity politics. The last straw for me was her oblique, vague attempted allegation of sexism against Sanders. Separately, although I dislike Bloomberg as a candidate, Warren's "not a tall one" joke seemed cheap and petty.

I’m seeing a lot of comments talking about how Stephen is snubbing Bernie but isn’t the point of this segment to make fun of Bloomberg? To remind people that he’s a horrible human being and that Warren is just doing a great job reminding everyone about this fact? Stephen is going for laughs, as per his COMEDIAN job. How does that equate to “sellout”? Stephen has had multiple candidates on his show, including Bernie, multiple times. He mentioned Bernie and Biden during his monologue, but no we MUST have a segment solely focused on Bernie. Maybe he’ll have one during the week? Only so much time in a show. So let’s stop with the whining and show some level of patience. Edit: I just rewatched the monologue and Stephen’s first thing on that segment was about Bernie’s victory in Nevada. So, I’m guessing people here didn’t watch that...?

One thing I've noticed about every debate so far: These people never went to a debate class. They talk over each other, they interrupt each other, they challenge each other to answer for something but then don't let them get more than three words out (So unless they say 'Not Guilty', they couldn't possibly answer), and sometimes the moderators don't even ask everyone a question that clearly everyone on the stage ought to get a shot at (such as the one mentioned here, by Colbert, where they snubbed Warren- I may dislike her, but I believe she deserves a chance to answer all the same questions Biden, Burnie, etc. all got). I don't even understand why we bother anymore? It's just become late night monologue fodder, with nothing of any real use, and I figure most of the people who watch have already made up their mind about who they are voting for. I haven't made up my mind yet, but it is hard to really do so when watching the debates because of the lack of decorum, so that no one truly ever gets through a whole point before they are interrupted or spoken over (I have hearing aids and read the subtitles, so that's fun), and then you get the moderators who aren't even as good as the mods on a Facebook group page at keeping an orderly debate. PS: Weird fact about NDAs - the company I used to work for as a secretary, we had three women come forward and sue the company cause they believed they had been fired wrongly. I handled the paperwork, one was fired because she struck a coworker in the face, one was fired because she didn't show up or call off for three days in a row, the third cussed out her boss. All three were offered X amount of money to avoid messy, public lawsuits, and all three were given NDAs. The coworker that got hit and the boss who got cussed, can't release those women from their NDAs, and the guy who owned that small company, couldn't personally call them up and say, "You are released", they would have needed to go through a couple month process with lawyers (so, ya know, any chance lawyers have to drag things out and have more billable hours for). I mean, Bloomburgs could be set up differently-- but just my own experience with NDAs, it is a bit more complicated than a boss or shareholder saying, "Well, you can talk now, ignore the NDA", plus the NDA may not be all about stuff with him. These women could have had a grievance with more than just one person, and the NDA covers the arse of more than just Bloomburg. His prep/publicity team failed him though, if they didn't make sure he was better prepared for Warren/etc. to bring that up and expect him to answer for it. Honestly, it was stupid of anyone on his team not to think that was going to happen.

Yeah, the public debates are not just about having a civil debate, but a place where the candidates can fight it out a little and show off. It's not a typical school-debate, but more a broad thing. And with Bloomberg, the thing is: he didn't deny it was about sexual harassment and gender discrimination. Heck he said "Maybe they didn't like a joke I told", which makes him seem extremly suspicious, because a harmless joke doesn't exactly sound like the thing to make people sign a NDA. So while your expirience and point of view is interesting to see different topics within NDAs, Bloomberg did not make any point as if the NDA were about something other than actual sexual problematic topics.
@leesilm.4432

It's a shame they can't be a civil debate, so we could actually get a chance to hear what they really think, how well thought-out their arguments/plans are, and the like. True, it does make him sound a bit iffy. I think, with my own personal history with them (I was the person who had to put things in mothballs after all the NDAs and crap were signed), I just tend to find them more of an annoyance than something to be suspicious of. I wish, in a true civil debate, we could have gotten to hear him talk about whatever he could within the guidelines of the NDAs, that Warren could have answered that question they didn't ask her, and that we could hear some other stuff from the candidates. The debates have become just another tool for Negative Campaigning. I have an idea that we should have those running negative campaigns, into mud pits in their expensive suits, and have them stand there and throw actual mud at each other, and see how long they keep it up if they have to allow themselves to have mud thrown back at them from their opponents.

And guess why they cussed them out or lost their temper? Unlike secretaries, I've been those meetings after the last woman and minority leaves the room (which only happens because the men are the only ones in senior management). The sexist and racist language is mixed with utter disdain. It's not their money to buy women off with the company's money! And the accusers are happy to leave all the stress and powerlessness.

I'm sorry to hear that, and trust me - I have heard it. First job I had out of school, I was the only woman, and they all saw my phone on a desk the first week that was open to THE DAILY SHOW W/ Trevor Noah, so they instantly had me pegged as a liberal democrat feminist, and I got all the crap pointed at me every day. I had to ride in cars with these guys, share a co-ed bathroom, a co-ed locker room, etc. But the woman with the NDA for cussing her boss/getting fired, she cussed out a female superior who she also used to badmouth all the time cause she didn't like the "ice queen" we worked for (I didn't care for her either, as a person- but she was a fair, reasonable boss), and I always thought it was wrong that our old boss couldn't tell people, "Well, she cussed me out cause she didn't care for my stoic ways, so I fired her", and the other boss (he was a male) couldn't say, "Well, the person we fired last week is the reason I have a fading shiner, so that's why they got fired". I actually left the job where I worked with all these guys, to go work at the place I was a secretary at (I'm not good enough with computers for that to have been a permanent living, thank goodness. More power to anyone who can make a career of being a secretary), because there were so many women working there, I figured it would be a bit calmer as there wouldn't be so much trying to whip'em out and having measuring contests, and all the frat boy/locker room crap. Instead, I had people taking swings at their bosses, cussing out their bosses, and clients screaming at me when they didn't get their way because an insurance company or a local provider didn't do what the client thought they were supposed to. I moved to working in writing advertisements and such. I go to my cubby hole, I read my assignment list, I write up my ads, I turn them in, I get feedback on older ones, I retool the older ones, turn them in, I have my meal/15min breaks, I go home. I am sorry you've had to deal with such racism, sexism, and other forms of ugliness. Sadly, it seems with that yahoo in office, it has enboldened those with such ugly hearts and twisted minds.
