At this point, with that short of an arrow, you might as well buy stock crossbow bolts and change the nocks. J/k j/k love your stuff Dan. I'll be building both my elk and whitetail arrows soon. Can't wait to see what you finally settle on.

My first preparation is ELK COUNTY ARCHERY CHALLENGE(cross fit meet rucking and 3d targets all in one setup) here in Pa again. I almost went with these. Opted back to GT velocity XT. Both are beautiful pieces of art wrapped into a meat missile. Joy's of the switch weight bc I've built 380gr arrows for the event but I hunt with 73 to 74lb so mod swap and back in business with my hunting arrow basically GT hunter XT. The tunes been the same nearly but a micro click here or there. Past 10 plus years shot all the 4mm and 5 mm.. past 2 yrs went back to 6mm and honestly not seen a drastic change at distance even with winds. Form is king and proper setup is queen. Keep on rocking it out man

Iam deff gunna stick with them! They are doing great!

I ran those in 300 spine, 50 grain brass and 125 grain head. Right at 15% foc and pretty dang good for me. The only reason I switched back to 5mm this year is to use up the ones I have so I can order and better a different setup. Only thing I would switch is move up to 150grain heads. Bad ass arrows

Hey Dan, I know you like fletching your arrows using the Arizona fletching jig due to its strong helical in order to steer broadheads better and be more accurate. Have you noticed any para shooting effect in the arrow when shooting? If so, typically at what distance you would start seeing this? I’m thinking of fletching my vanes using this jig so I’m curious. Thank you.

Easton Sonic are hard to beat. Perfect TAC arrow with the stock insert, solid gpi to tinker with foc. Only criticism would be 6mm but the components you can buy from Easton are all you really need. KISS. 50 or 75 grains of brass for that 14-17% foc territory all day long

Adding onto the fact that left bevels don’t unscrew from the insert. A left helical/bevel is rotating counter-clockwise from the perspective of the archer. Down range, if that arrow is flying at you, it is spinning clockwise - the same direction you would tighten a broadhead onto an arrow. So a left bevel does in fact tighten if the arrow was to stop spinning. The opposite is true theoretically of a right bevel but I don’t think it’s a real world problem because the arrow is also spinning in the same direction as the broadhead. Anyway..
@the_sharp_carpenter
@the_sharp_carpenter 5 ай бұрын
Yes 👍 this is exactly true. If you had a right bevel on a left spinning arrow it might loosen a tiny bit, but a little bees wax on your threads and nothing is coming loose till you want it to.
@dario_d9005
@dario_d9005 5 ай бұрын
@@the_sharp_carpenter yup exactly. There’s a lot of misinformation about this out there. A popular broadhead mfg even put out a video explaining they don’t make left bevel broadheads because they will unscrew and they don’t want to put a product out there like that…I am sure it has everything to do with manufacturing limitations and then they reverse engineered a reason they don’t make them..

On an animal it doesn't really matter as the broadhead makes a big hole and blood serves as a lubricant. Zero friction basically with the arrow shaft no matter how thick it is.

I have a random question. Does anyone know if you're supposed to press a switchback xt on the end of the limbs or go down a bit to avoid the two little allen screws? They're for those string stoppers that were on older Mathews. Thanks

I cant keep a left helical from coming unscrewed. Even in an animal. Had one two years ago come completely off in the animal. Dont know how guys keep it from doing this, even using tools to tighten. Ive gone to a custom string to get clockwise rotation and a right helical.

Hey Brother. Never thought I'd see you shooting a 6mm ever again. Seeing you drop down to 4mm and now go back the other direction has me thinking, why. I understand switching setups for different types of animals. I would think that once you decided to drop down, for elk specifically, you would stay there. Since you've already shot almost every arrow made.

WHY - to test for myself. The GPI of the Sonics is really the main feature, it's the lightest GPI that Easton has to offer for hunting as far as I can tell! Thanks!

Wow, 200 grains up front on a 340 spine and 80#’s? Even with a short arrow and short DL that seems pretty week. Interesting. I’m using these, 300 spine though. 175 up front and 451g total. They’ve been nice. Stronger than I expected.

I watch nearly EVERY video from this channel and hold your knowledge and skills in high regard. Respectfully, this seems like a terrible setup. I also have a nearly identical LIFT 29.5 setup. 80Lbs./27.5 draw length. There isn't a spine chart on the planet that would come even close to recommending 300 spine LET ALONE 340 spine arrows for that much weight up front of your arrow at 80l. Draw, no matter how short you cut them. I have struggled with arrow speed as a short draw guy myself, but 6mm will hurt penetration and wind drift. I love Easton and hate that they don't make a light GPI arrow, but this setup causes spine, penetration and flight compromises. I love what you do on this channel. It's my favorite on the whole internet, but this is the wrong direction. Best of luck.
@MrHunter2784
@MrHunter2784 5 ай бұрын
I will never understand why you would choose a Iron will to shoot out of a 80lbs bow, my guess is nobody asked you to place your hand on a table and asked you if you wanted to be stabbed in your hand with a two blade head or a four blade head? Everyone picks the two blade and when asked why they say it will cause less damage duhhhh! But hey! you do you and keep pushing an inferior product that is way overpriced and can be out performed by a 4 blade head. It’s sad to read how many people believe wholehearted in the products you select to use, but on a good note at least you don’t push 600gn arrows
@chrismohar4706
@chrismohar4706 5 ай бұрын
I’m no mathematician or anything like that. I do however understand if you have 2 main cutting blades and 2 cutting bleeder blades and you add them up, you know 2+2, it comes out to 4 blades!!! I’ve added it several times now… and still comes out to 4 blades!!! If you believe them to be inferior broad head then please! I’d like to have your opinion on a blade that is equally as tough, flys as well, handle large heavy animals with thick hide and comes actually sharp? Honestly I’d really like to hear opinion?
@MrHunter2784
@MrHunter2784 5 ай бұрын
@@chrismohar4706 for one I wouldn’t consider the bleeder blades as full blades there more like a sliver and don’t contribute much towards soft tissue damage which is the sole purpose for a broadhead, the only reason the bleeders were added was due to people complaining of poor blood trails and the end result was less penetration. (Due to thickness of material) Shoot the head through cardboard and you’ll see how much they contribute. Not too mention the edge of the blades will rust (most important) part of the head! And you can’t leave out the outrageous cost of one head. Remember the goal is to maximize soft tissue damage and a two blade head will loose too a three or four blade head every time! I don’t want to divulge my head of choice but I will tell you it is on John lusk archer top 5 performing heads for 22-23 list. I wish influencers like elk shape spoke more honestly about products and weren’t bought and paid for by signing non disclosure agreements and you can read how many people take his word as gospel it’s sad.
