Magnificent! So smoooooooooth. Beautiful. Harri, Ella is the 'one and only' and there is one particular singer who I would like to hear her sing this melody as a tribute to Ella. Angelina Jordan.

A beautiful voice accompanied by just as beautiful orchestration, especially the bass. As Harri said, perfection.

My dad played her records all the time when I was a kid, so I kind of grew up with her. But I didn't come to truly appreciate her until I was around 45 (I'm 67 now). Miss Ella is my favourite vocalist bar none. Thanks for another great reaction, Harri!

Late 50’s or early 60’s my aunt brought me the Ella Live in Berlin album. Listening to her sing live and interacting with the audience made her more of a real person. Still have that album, my favorite.

And to think, she went to the Apollo theater’s amateur night intending to dance, but the sister pair that went on before her were dancers that Ella thought were better than her…so she sang! I treated my mom to a concert when Ella was near the end of her career and her eyesight had gotten so bad that she needed to be guided on stage. But let me tell you, that voice was as clear and beautiful as it was on those 33 r.p.m. albums my mom would play on our hi-fi back in the 1960’s when I was a child! And now, hearing this voice always moves me to tears just because it’s all memories now. I absolutely love Ella Fitzgerald!❤️❤️

God, what a voice! Anything like it today? I don't think so. Thank you! I'd love to hear Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo or Demi Lovato try to sing this. No autotune. It would be hysterical!

She is a classic, I remember her doing a commercial back in the '70's for Memorex cassette tapes with her voice breaking a wine glass, her voice was one of a kind

Recordings like this one were done for the "mainstream" (white) 50's audience. Some were more musically sophisticated, but this one isn't. Ella's voice was a Ferrari. Recordings like this one keep her in first gear. The Ella Nelson Riddle Gershwin Songbook Recordings offer generally better treatments of these amazing songs

I'll never forget the first time I heard Ella's voice... I was shopping at a record store 25 years ago and she was one of the employee picks for that day... stopped me in my tracks when they started playing her record. My favorite female vocalist of all time.

Chick Webb, the big band leader, was looking for a singer. One of his associates brought Ella to try out. Webb wanted someone cute in a low cut gown and wasn't even going to listen to her. Imagine if he hadn't been persuaded to give her a chance.

Dancer Norma Miller reminisced about Fitzgerald's debut live performance, in Harlem in 1934, as a sixteen-year-old hopeful on the Apollo Theater's Amateur Night. “We booed her,” Miller said. “Can you imagine, we booed Ella Fitzgerald?” And then the girl started to sing and the booing stopped. “We heard a sound, I’m telling you,” Miller said. “It was so perfect. She shut us up so quick you could hear a rat piss on cotton.”

I prefer Ella with the backing of a small jazz combo...

I consider Ella the greatest singer ever, but IMO Sarah Vaughan's version of this on her album with Clifford Brown is just a bit better (and i rarely think that's true because, although Sarah had an undeniably remarkable voice, the arrangements and production were odten below her level of excellence). Still how xan you fault Ella with a Nelson Riddle arrangement/orchestra singing Gershwin? It's musical heaven.
