Most comedians would do their routine and leave. With her, Carson asked her to come over and have a seat. He then told her she has an open invitation to come back anytime. When you get that kind of endorsement from Carson, you know you have a future in show business.
@romeo241784 жыл бұрын
She reflected on this on a special about the Tonight Show and Johnny Carson history. She and Drew Carey were emotional about how special it was to appear on the show, but to be called over, meant so muuch more, like an endorsement stamp for your career going forward. Ellen and Drew appreciated that start, and Johnny was the best at moving forward careers of new or young comedians.

@@FunkyMonk_96 No worries. It's merely a joke. Most states in the US have issued stay at home orders. As a result, non-essential places such as television studios have been shut down to keep people from gathering in close quarters. There are even limits on the number of people who can be in a store at any given time. Those limits are MUCH lower than the already established limits set for fire safety and structural capacities. To keep the show going, some are streaming from home. Ellen made a joke on Twitter about her staying at home had nothing to do with an arrest warrant out of Florida. She has no warrant. lol

I thought the same thing, a kind and genuine little talk. Just enjoying the talent of his guest and giving a compliment. Also the bit about men being able to get away with more..I felt they were just noticing an extra hurdle she had to overcome as a female comedian. Times have changed, it's surely harder to find these more nuanced and genuine interviews now. In the Netherlands where I'm from, there remain some programs, but mainly on public tv.

Her first big break was getting on The Tonight Show. Her second even bigger break came at 6:03 in this video when Johnny Carson motioned her over to sit in the chair. That single gesture meant that he liked her material and delivery. To be blessed by the King of late night TV meant you would go on to be a star. Carson made the careers happen for countless numbers of people. The Godfather of TV.
