I made this recipe yesterday. My neighbor had given me a set of four 16.9 oz mugs and I already have a ton of mugs, so I decided to fill the mugs with the dishsoap. They will take forever to use up! I tripled the recipe and in addition to the lemon I added "Forest Walk" by NOW essential oils and came up with a great scent. I had a little extra for a few mold bars. I ordered some little scrub brushes and may sell a couple of the mugs, or give them away to friends and family. Thanks for the tutorial!

Hey there, Lady! GREETINGS FROM VIRGINIA! It’s such a breath of fresh air, having a fellow soap maker near me! I just want to tell you how smart you are. Never would I have thought to use coffee filters to wrap my round soaps and I have struggled with ways of labeling them for years. Thank you so much for that little tidbit. I am going to make this soap and we’ll see how we do on the dishes because nowadays even Dawn doesn’t do a good job cutting the grease. Do you remember how strong it used to be? It could cut the grease on anything. I always think of my fellow soap maker when I’m driving through Tennessee, heading back to Virginia from home in southern Illinois visiting family. God bless you and I enjoy your videos.

Hi Ellen. I store all my soap recipes in a 3 ring binder. I use plastic sheet protectors to protect them. Also, I use sodium citrate. You use 1.3% to 3.90% of the total oil weight. For example, for a 500g oil batch oil with 2% sodium citrate (.02×500), so 10 grams of sodium citrate. I find it easier to do it this way. Amazon sells it.

Ellen, this is lovely! Thank you so much for the inspiration to finally make up a batch of these for gifts- I've been intimidated to use Citric Acid in soap but a non body bar seems like the perfect application to dip my toes into it! Where I am here in the Upper Midwest has VERY hard water so I've always heard that soap with citric acid is the best and I'm excited to see. My favourite soap calculator, Soapee, has recently added the citric acid adjustment as an option so it makes it even easier. I think I'm going to do a Lemon & Mint essential oil blend for my bars, I have a spray cleaner from Target that uses that blend to scent it and it smells divine ☺

Hello, is the recipe gonna get affected if I changed the oils? I havereally sensitive skin. If so, what do you recommend? is apricot oil ok?
@EllenRuthSoap Жыл бұрын
Yes, different oils have different sap values, so just be sure to run the numbers thru a soap calc.

I have really sensitive skin, particularity on my hands, (history of severe eczema), but also using gloves is not practical nor does it keep the water off my hands. I have learned that the only liquid soap to date that actually helps my hands heal, are ones that have aloe Vera in them. Is there a way to add the aloe to this hard bar soap?

Yes, you can replace all the water wiht aloe vera juice👍 Also, you could increase the super fat to add a touch of moisture, maybe up to 5%

Ohh nooo... I just made my second batch (first batch went perfectly and is curing until July 28).. I just realized I forgot to add the citric and stearic acids, is this batch a goner or just not as cleansing or hard?
@EllenRuthSoap5 ай бұрын
I suggest doing a pH test on the soap, it may be lye heavy without the citric acid..

@@EllenRuthSoap Thank you for such a quick response! I just googled how to correct for a lye-heavy batch and I understand where to go from here. I appreciate you!

Can I omit using steric acid
@EllenRuthSoap5 ай бұрын
That would change the recipe, so you'll need to run the numbers thru soap calc to make sure your lye ratio is correct.

I dont use stearic acid in any if my soaps. Do you think this recipe would hold up without it?
@EllenRuthSoap Жыл бұрын
I put it in this formulation to help it last longer and stay hard even while wet... I suggest trying some small batches and seeing if you can find a formula you like.

@@EllenRuthSoap so far this recipe minus the stearic acid is phenomenal. (It did start to crack a little while making and I had to pop them in the fridge.) Great lather and works incredible on the dishes! Thank you for this!

WSP has a great % calculator.

I've tried using stearic acid in soap but the melt point is so high that my oils have to be very hot to keep it in solution. You didn't seem to have a problem with it.
@EllenRuthSoap Жыл бұрын
They do have a high melting point, and I just keep melting until they are fully melted... Makes for a nice hard bar💛

Greetings, I am interested in how the PH can be lowered in soaps with a cold process. I'm using google translate so I apologize for the clumsy words. Greetings from Croatia

I have not worked with lowering the pH in CP soaps, so I can't really speak to that.?.

what the function of citric asid is in soap
@EllenRuthSoap Жыл бұрын
It helps reduce soap scum, and makes a squeeky clean rinse.
