I got to see him live in early 1998 - it was right after Good Will Hunting had come out - I thought it would be packed - the club was only half full - I got to stand right near the front - still have some great pics I took on my Kodak disposable camera (remember those?) the ticket costs me 8.00 - best 8 bucks I’ve ever spent. I’m not sure why it was so cheap - may have been a promotional thing through college radio ? He played a few songs by himself and then brought a band out to play with him. I was 19 years old - time flies kiddos.

95 or 96 I saw Elliot Smith in Seattle opening up for The Minus 5 and Spinnanes I didn't know who he was and the crowd showed him no respect and talked through his entire set IMO he was way better than the 2 other acts

Which one? Nobody is an E flat major barre chord (x68886) Heart is a G minor barre chord (355333) and Broke at the start of the next measure is just an open C chord without fingering the fifth (x32000) which is why the other guy said Cm but it's still a major chord (these chords are relative to D standard tuning so they're not the actual notes. The song is in the key of B flat and not C since the tuning is a whole step down from E standard. Hope this helps)

I feel like certain songs he may have written in the studio he got bored of playing live because the guitar parts were too simple, like "Everybody Cares," on the Green Street Grill bootleg he's literally rolling his eyes at the end and then stops it and says it's supposed to fade out. Or on another one where he argues with a guy who says "Rose Parade" is his favorite song and says that it's boring to play, has too many words, and accuses the guy of only liking it because it's "clever" lol.
