This videos will help with the Elna star series models:
+Sheila Ward Some people do remove them and think they are a nuisance. There function is to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) with other appliances. According to regulations you should have them and as a registered electrical worker I replace them.
Elna EC cl.11 cl.13
Elna ZZ cl.21
Elna SP cl.31
Elna ST cl.41
Elna SU CL.62
Elna TSP Cl.72
It will show you the wiring diagrams and how to access the terminal connectors running to the motor, light and interference capacitor. This video points out what is causing you machine to run by itself and how to disconnect the interference capacitor.
Electrical repair work should adhere to local electrical requirement standards and should only be carried out by a certified electrical worker.

Perfect advise ABSOLUTE SEWING!!! I have copied what you demonstrated - disconnecting the brown and blue wires, and put some insulating tape on the terminals. My wife's Elna is running perfectly again. Thank you very much - I am very pleased and grateful for people like you. You make the world a better place.

I fixed the Elna 62C that we inherited a few weeks ago, making the wife very happy! Of course, the configuration was slightly different on this model, but I could see the capacitor on the motor with a blue wire, so I disconnected the blue one and "Voila!" Thank you!

Thank you. I could never have done this without your advice. Took me about 10 minutes. I could not afford to fix it otherwise.

Thank you, another vintage machine saved. My friend fixed it for me, with your video. I have been using it today in my local quilting group without any problems. Keep up the great videos!

Thanks for the information. I have an Elna Transforma that has the original noise interference cap which does not look healthy so I wanted to disconnect it to prevent future problems. With the info that you provided I was able to know which wire to cut to disable it. It was the white wire that went to the cap but it was crimped in with some other wires so I could not disconnect it individually like you did on the Star.

Great video, do you have a link to the wiring diagram for the Elna C62? I have a machine that seems to have a bad connection somewhere (wiggling the plug causes an electrical arcing sound and either light to go out or foot pedal to stop working) thank you!

At 4:00 (4 minute mark) is that a resistor between the terminal and the switch? I am trying to fix a ladies Elna 62c where this part is burnt out

I went through the steps that you showed and disconnected the silver tabbed wire from the switch assembly and the machine still starts running as soon as it is plugged in. Would simply changing the foot pedal fix this or is there something else I should be looking for? Thank you for such a well done informational video.

Disconnected silver wire. Motor still runs. Could it be the pedal? If so, any suggestions to diagnose problem?

Are there any legal restrictions that apply to disabling the interference capacitor? What about safety?

+Sheila Ward It is a double insulated electrical appliance and is not earthed. So it is very important that all electrical work is done properly and to follow electrical regulations. Removing the interference capacitor is not necessarily unsafe, but it won't meet EMI regulations.

What about if you have one that light will come on but motor will not run? Have you ever run into this?

if i do this disconnect then i never need to replace the capacitor in the future and the machine will work fine?
@AbsoluteSewing

The machine don't need a interference capacitor to run but according to EMI regulations it may be required. I'm not sure how that applies to your area.

@@AbsoluteSewing March 17, 2021 at 4:35pm central Canada time Hi we did as you suggested but there was no change :( wife is not happy..lol ..the machine still runs all the time however as before the sewing is not a problem. We took the machine to the a repairman and he called back after he checked it and said it was a capacitor in the motor meaning we need to taken apart.(like you said) But he had no parts or could not find any parts to fix the Elan anyway. I said we will pay his $30 checkup fee and we will pick it up. But he then called back later and said it may be the capacitor in the foot peddle! After I saw your video hack I figured I would try that first. But it did not work. I took a pic of the plugin assembly and where we tried to do your hack and we took the cover off the foot peddle and saw a lot of capactors there too. We took a pic there as well. Maybe it is in the foot peddle where our problem is?? If so; if we can find the part, maybe we could buy a replacement foot peddle and cord ..what do you think? BTW Where are you located?? We are in central Ontario 2 hours north of our capital Ottawa.. my phone number is 613-294-1170 with texting email is aitem4u@live.com Appreciate any guidance you can give me. thanks Bruce

@@warnerbrucemassage4u20 I send you an email and yes the capacitor in the foot control can have a short and that could also make your machine run by itself. I'm in New Zealand and maybe you should remove your email and number to avoid spam messages.
