Max i often see you talk on documentary's about physics and i find your many world interpretation very fascinating. wish i could talk to you one time. What Google, Microsoft, Apple, IBM and many other companies/institutions are working on right now in their labs would appear to be science fiction to most people. Take the Turing test that is text based artificial intelligence that is being researched some companies are just a few measures of passing that test. But to put an extra layer of complexity upon this there are other vision and auditory sensor systems that are surpassing human capabilities. And these systems are all being combined. I do not think he is freaked out but wants to draw attention to the fact that we are moving now at such a rapid pace that we soon will lose sight of what is happening. Not that we will lose control but understanding of what is happening. People are making the fundamental flaw of thinking about AI in the image of a human. When in fact AI is thinking that involves billions of pathways. Remember Elon has probably seen into some of the greatest AI labs in the world and has seen first hand what is being achieved.
