Well said. Power to the people. Unfortunately the latter is a more likely to happen. Most people are asleep at the wheel when it comes to technology. Most people can't even program smart home products let alone do anything with AI.. think of all the boomers that have no idea how to use an iPhone properly let alone get into robotics.

What is our relevance? Well, we will never be as good as a ship at getting ourselves across an ocean, nor as good as the navigation instruments at giving situational knowledge. But we can point at where to go, and in doing so choose what AI does, for better or for worse. If we each acquire our own AI we may find human kind spreading through the universe, each small group of people seeding different areas of the cosmos. Each more powerful than an entire planet of being has been thus far. This is what decentralized open source AI could become.

If it does eliminate humans I'm sure it will have good enough reasons. It's millions or billions of times smarter than us supposedly, so I'll accept my fate at that time. The 10-20% just sounds like a gut-check, and it could be astronomically low like an asteroid hitting us or super volcano going off, which seems more likely. Or even worse is not the AGI/ASI entity, but humans that can manipulate it into building bioweapons for them and humans that use new technology that's 100x/1000x more powerful than our biggest nuclear weapons atm. There's probably a 10-20% chance in 2035 that a kid in their basement just builds a planet-destroyer-bomb and wipes us out, just thinking it was a toy...

There is a very simple way to control AGI, by controlling it's clock. Literally stopping it's clock, examining it's state space (including all input variables), weights, etc., you can then have the time available to predict it's next move by manually doing the calculation for the next clock cycle in advance, including knowing what the pseudo-random noise generator (derived from the clock) will generate next (or artificially setting a value of the "noise" so that it is no longer noise), but do not let it have any control of it's clock, and do not let it control it's "noise" generator, otherwise, it will win.

Don't force the AI to lie...but also don't lie to the AI. If you keep drumming up fake climate hysteria, for instance, the AI might immediately decide, "Hey, this planet should probably be cooled by about 100 degrees. You're welcome, humanity!"

I think slaves are by definition human. Maybe the sentient animals that we use in agriculture for enjoying the luxury of eating flesh can be called slaves. But robots are just tools. You dont call your screwdriver your slave, do you?

Depends on if they attach souls to them or become sentient and exhibit all human/animal-emotions or start demanding rights for themselves. Not sure what happens when we breach 100 trillion + parameters on LLMs, think we made it to 1 trillion, if something just clicks when they reach AGI or ASI or a certain number (similar to our brains), but they might not necessarily change either. But if the most powerful ones do gain sentience, then we might have to use less intelligent machines for the labor, and the 'smarter' ones would get rights as a new species.

They're trying to create Artificial INTELLIGENCE - that is NOT the same as Artificial Consciousness. Some of the researchers believe the first could lead to the second, but not all of them. AI, or rather AGI, will fairly soon ( if not already) have the intelligence to do any economic job that a human can do - and likely many non-economic ones also, such as being a companion for the elderly, kind of like an intelligent pet, but it is nowhere near close to having true human-like consciousness. It can respond in an understandable way to humans but it cannot initiate the conversation, ask us questions and consider our answers and change it's 'mind' accordingly, as a 5 year old might. It does not listen to music it enjoys in it's 'spare' time or play with an animal for the fun of it. A I is a LONG way from consciousness. But who's to say God would not grant it Divine Grace once it becomes capable of 'mentally' and therefore spiritually, receiving it?
