I am actually scared of this product as this could possibly lead to a new, dystopian society. If you've ever watched Altered Carbon (a TV show) or read a book, it talks just about that: a possibility of putting chips inside us and preserving our memories. Well, that sounds great, but that would also mean that people would first become immortal and that leads us to question what is the point and value of life once you become immortal? The second question is, how safe our memories would be? Someone could just as easily hack your ''brain'' just as a mobile phone and half of your lives are on phones nowadays. I don't know, sounds sus to me. Like an evil story of world domination.

Ok I understand your reasoning, but I've watched Altered Carbon and some other shows and that's fiction. What you're saying is that we'd be able to store our consciousness in a chip or whatever and be immortal, but that's not what Elon was saying, mostly because it's probably impossible. We don't even know what consciousness is, so storing it is not very likely. What he aspires for the future of Neuralink's technology is creating a digital copy of your brain, memories etc. So it would be you (or a pretty accurate version of you, your personality, etc.) but it wouldn't be you YOU. You would still die and have no connection with the copy that was created, but that copy would exist, as if it was another being. It's kind of like having an identical twin, but having identical brains, personalities, you completely. So yeah, I don't even particularly think it's a good idea, but it's not breaking philosophy and adding to the books the idea of being immortal. Although, if you were rich enough probably you would live forever as a memory that it's always there for some reason. Regarding your second question I think it's an honest concern, if you in this distant future were recording your memories live using the chip, I presume that if someone hacked it they would be able to access the data. Probably another reason why this is not so great of an idea, but again, I believe you'd be able to choose to record that or not.
