In other words, Model Tau is much more significant than model 3 (~3.14) and chances are that my moonshot is right! Excellent work. Very interesting! In a recent drone flyby of Giga Texas (3rd floor Eastside) you can see hundreds of new assembly robots lined up against the windows (about a 1/4 mile of them). Those could be for the Cybertruck line, but now I think they might also be for a Project Highland line. It's easily as may robots as were moved into the building before the Model Y production began. Can hardly wait for Part 2 to drop on Patreon!

Very interesting! The analogs between Fords Higland Park and what Tesla is doing was striking. You may very well be right about why Tesla named its new project Highland. It was suprising to me that there's still much to be learned about manufacturing from Henry Ford. It wouldn't suprise me if Elon Musk studied it. But I guess many have studied Henry Fords ways through the years. And one would have thought every car manufacturer wouod have surpassed that. But somehow they may have failed to extract and extend his principles. So, project Highland isn't about building Model 3 more effectively. It's about improving the Machine which Builds the Machine. That's a really powerful viewpoint!

Another nice Ford story is that when Henry showed his foreman his new robot and commented that it wouldn’t have to pay union dues the foreman commented that it wouldn’t be buying any cars either. Which nicely encapsulates today’s robot versus employment debate!

@@ConnectingODots Ford paid higher wages so his employees could afford the car. Workers on the assembly line were not paid if the line was shut down for some reason, only getting paid when the line was going. That was the norm at the time. I don't think workers would like it today if their factory assembly line was shut down for a few hours a day and not get paid while sitting there waiting for the line to start. Possibly waiting for hours. Unions did help the workers get some social justice.

The river rouge plant on drained swamp land has an extra similarity to giga Austin which is being built on reclaimed swamps beside the Colorado river . Both river rouge and Colorado river translate to red river in English. Is giga Shanghai on the yellow river? You are right that Olds wasfirst to have an automotive assembly line, with the curved dash model. However, Ford is generally acknowledged as they did it at much larger scale - not just number of cars produced but mostly the extent in which they analyzed the production process and broke it down into numerous small steps.

The 1902 to 1907 Oldsmobile Model R "Curved Dash" was the first mass-produced car, made from the first automotive assembly line, an invention which is often incorrectly credited to Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company. Ford was the first to manufacture cars on a moving assembly line, while Olds used a stationary assembly line, meaning that the assembled vehicle remained in one place and workers would move from one car to the next and perform one assigned task.

Naming the pending Tesla compact model Tau would be a stroke of marketing brilliance. Tau is just so, wonderfully mysterious. FYI, Tau has a mathematical meaning: It is the ratio of the circumference to the radius of a circle, which is equal to 2π (6.28318...). Which means it's a number that like Pi, has never been truly solved for absolute value...

This is highly informative and really interesting. Thanks. Just to add a couple of points. Ford began building Highland Park during and despite a major economic slump in the US, that he knew would affect demand. He was also so aggressive in cutting prices that two of his large shareholders (the Dodge brothers) sued him. Elon Musk's recent decisions on ramping production, building a new factory and cutting prices are all reminiscent of Ford.

Although not really related, I'll address this in the engineering analysis video. Basically : 1. No real way to know, 2. from what I see Elon consistently avoids changing the styling. Form follows function, so if there's no real need to change it, "fresh new style for buyers" isn't a good reason to retool. Also, He's educating us not to change cars for fashion only. 3. I do only see them changing the styling if it helps aerodynamics and/or manufacturability

@@ConnectingODots interesting take. I have no issue with the approach generally. The pro to this is that owners have a car with a more timeless look, for longer. Jaw dropping. thank you for the expansive digging. I've been wondering why they haven't announced another factory location yet... if project highland might be a step-change in what a factory looks like.. it makes a lot more sense they won't announce new factory builds until they roll out highland. .. and a highland type prototype factory change seems now the most likely thing they will talk about at Investor day March 1st. It's been clear since battery day two years ago that tesla was aiming to be a manufacturing focused company. Go watch that and count how many times they mention manufacturing as their strength, their focus, their answer to Q&A. It makes even more sense that an 'investor announcement' would be a manufacturing announcement, not a product announcement.

I think that the new model 3 will use front and rear castings like the Y, and the structural pack. I don't see it using much more than that, and it won't be the 3rd gen platform. In that comment from Elon at about 31.50, he actually says the next generation car will be half the cost, and faster to build, then "It will smaller, to be fair..." My guess is that the major speed boost and cost reduction will be a one piece cast body. I can envisage how they can do this, but in something the size of model 3 will be even more difficult than in a compact size which is what I think it will be. Model Tau is an intriguing possibility, and even if they weren't going to before, Elon might steal the idea.

You rock it! I've been drawing a better design flow for EVs. I think that megacasting's impact on that is underappreciated, from what little I can see out here. Partly that's from my own take on what MPP3 can be. In keeping w/Elon's vision, I built it around synergistic connections between all his companies. Something he says in public he doesn't see. The implications when drawn back into factory design nudged me to consider a different flow for assembly which implied a different shape, overall. This video bringing visions of Ford's ideas as they informed factory design decisions confirmed that my designs merit consideration as they address flow constraints. And they rely on that synergy. I'm working on a proposal.

New ‘car’ will be called ‘Alpha’ imo. Plus expect an Na chemistry announcement soon (reduce Li exposure). Great segment!

Interesting take. Will be cool to see how close to reality this is. It's all in line with what Tesla and Elon are trying to do so I hope to see something like this at the investor day. Just wish I had more dry powder to throw into the stock at these low prices.

This video flows like a Highland assembly line. A lot of info and very interesting. Regarding the name; A few tweets by Elon that pop up, make me think it might be the Model A, or B (for bargain), or both ?

Great video, your basis seems really realistic and make sense with the multiple planned new Tera / Giga factories. What a Tera exciting future Tesla has if you are right!

I am excited to see what Highland will mean to the number of factories needed to scale to 20M vehicles in 2029. It may be far fewer than we think?

How many do you think it'll take? 🤔 Elon in the summer 2022 q2 earnings call said 8-12 total factories needed. I think it best we believe him here. That means possibly only 3 more gigantic tera factories are needed. My bet is gigamexico, giganesia and a U.K. or Korean giga. Since then though gigahai production has exceeded a staggering 1,100,000+run rate. With a planned expansion there for another 1,000,000+unit's on temporary permitting hold. This is likely for imo the compact car expansion plan. Then just recently gigavada has been approved for a massive $3,600,000,000+expansion more than doubling the plants total size. Also Elon has mentioned the upcoming gen3 platform will be half the cost of the model 3&y to manufacturer. But it will do double the production volume out of the same sized plant. That's imo the compact/robotaxi platform built with a 4680 cast structural pack, f&r single piece castings and the frame being a single large cast piece. So just 4 major castings to produce a basic car. Imagine how cheap&fast that will be at scale. 😎

@@4literv6 Don't know to be honest. When asked about the Gen3 platform at the Q3 earnings call we got the following response from Elon and Zach: Elon Musk - ........certainly exceed the production of all our other vehicles combined. I mean, obviously, we're going to take everything we learned from S, X, 3, Y, Cybertruck and Semi into that platform. But we -- as you've said to us many times, we're on a 2-for-1 target. So [Inaudible] we're trying to get to that 50% number again. It's like, we're going to take two. If that's exactly what [Inaudible], how are we making two cars for the amount of effort that we currently take to make one Model 3. Zachary Kirkhorn -- Chief Financial Officer Yeah. Effort costs, efficiency. Elon Musk -- Chief Executive Officer and Product Architect Needs to be considered. Zachary Kirkhorn -- Chief Financial Officer Yeah. All those things. Half the loss, half the past, half the factory floor space. Not sure if the "half the factory space" comment implies that half the number of factories will be needed for a 20M run rate. What do you think?

I dont get it, why do you still have under 40k subs. Not a new channel and have put out several good deep diving videos. This one was well made and edited with both history, facts and some speculation, to not only learn something from but also try and imagine what it could evolve into. Keep up the good work!

Elon is completely unlike any of the other rich guys. He is just a big kid and having a ball. More power to him. This was a very entertaining vid. Love Tesla and maybe one day I can afford one. Seems to be going that way. Elon Rocks!

Very good analysis. I have a feeling, Highland will lead to development of a model 2. A lower cost vehicle has been mentioned and existing production would not lead to significant cost savings so more integrated/simpler design is needed.
