Anurag Gupta Agreed, John Cleese was pretty good. I strangely do like the new guy - even if I was pretty damn pissed in the last movie when his character allows their entire system to be compromised. When he first plugged in the computer I pretty much wanted to scream - That better not be directly into your "personal" systems!

***** Definetly, I really like the actor. Especially when he briefed Bond at the museum. That laptop scene really did piss me off as well. Q is supposed to be a minor character, not something that drives the plot to that extent. But whatever, hopefully he's good in the next one.

Technically Desmond Llewelyn was the second Q but the first to be addressed as such. He was played by a different actor in Dr. No, but the character was addressed by his actual name, Boothroyd.

+Anurag Gupta I agree with you. If they'd kept John Cleese for the newer films, I'd have been so happy. I mean, they kept Judi Dench, but not him? I can totally imagine Cleese and Craig working together, they'd have been such a great team.No offense to Whishaw, but he hasn't made much of an impact on me. Neither has the new Moneypenny(she and Craig have no chemistry). And I only like Fiennes as M because it's Fiennes as M. I guess it all depends on the next movie.

After the death of Desmond Llewelyn (1963-99) I always shed tears when I watch Q LITERALLY going into the ground in "The World Is Not Enough." :( It is harsh enough that this was his last film, but to have him be hit by a car in real life and then going under with a car onscreen.... :( Farewell Mr Llewelyn, you will be Dearly Missed. :(

Desmond Llewelyn's exit from the Bond series rightfully #1. Starred in 17 of the 19 Bond films that were made while he was alive. Ben Whishaw makes a good Q but nobody can ever fill Desmond's shoes. Rest in peace good Sir.

Desmond Llewellyn was on screen for a total of 30 minutes total in all of the Bond movies. Yet he was one of the most beloved and recognizable actor from the entire series. He is missed. I wish they had kept John Cleese as his replacement. “R” always made you laugh.

At first I never really was into John Cleese as Q. But after a few years and revisiting I can see the wit he brought and the similarity to Desmond and I think he fit the role perfectly. I like the new Q as well, but of course Llewlyn will always be THE Q we know and love. I remember tearing up when I saw the memorial montage that was included in the World Is Not Enough VHS release.

While #2 is the funniest by far, I love how heartfelt #1 is. You've got these two professional associates that have been joking for years. If you look back, they almost never have serious conversations. But you can see the deep respect 007 has for Q, he's hurt by the idea of Q being there. Most brilliant part of that movie.

+JasminLeblanc I thought Mr. Cleese did a fine job in his roles he played, especially in Die Another Day. I'm sad they couldn't find a place for him in the new ones, but the young guy is "ok". I hate that he is like 12, but hopefully he'll literally grow into the role. Q has always been a father like figure, and now he's like a kid brother. On that note it would be nice to see Q in the field again, but working more alongside 007 to expand upon that brothers role. Make it seem like he needs protecting and right as Bond swoops in to save the day he uses a gadget to get out of it, with the only reason he waited was to see the look on Bond's face. I like the tone and mood in the new films, but I would like to see more humor interjected between Q and 007 again. Not forced, but just this roll with the punches humor they have always bantered in. I do very much miss that.
