Thank you so much for differentiating these sunscreens, Abbey! I think a lot of us were confused by how similar they sound on the surface. I would love to hear your thoughts on their new UV Sheer product, especially since they've used Octocrylene instead of Octinoxate, with the latter falling out of favor lately (it's now banned in Hawaii, for example). Keep producing content and, most importantly, being you! We love to see it :)

Thanks for this comparison! I love Elta MD sunscreen! My favorite, HG is the Daily ; I worn it for the past dozen years. It does have a slight white cast, but on my light skin it is fine, or I mix a little of the Elta MD UV Elements all mineral tinted in with it. I have tried MANY high end, K beauty, and drugstore sunscreens, but I always come back to the Elta MD UV daily- it feels good on my skin, so light I don’t even feel it, and doesn’t make me break out.

Abbey, I have been struggling to find a sunscreen that works for my SUPER sensitive skin. I love the affordability of the vanicream spf, but it’s thick texture makes it hard for everyday wear. I ordered the EltaMD UV Clear and it irritated my skin. After watching your videos I decided to try the UV Daily because it didn’t have niacinamide - and I love it! I haven’t felt this confident in my skin in years. You have helped me so much in my spf journey!

Hi Abbey, you recommended Elta MD UV Clear which has lactic acid in it. I know you use tretinoin as do I, and everything I’ve read is to avoid lactic acid as I can make your tretinoin skin more easily irritated (and can generally irritate skin more when it’s in the sun). Please let me know if you’ve had any issues when using this wall on Tretinoin. I haven’t been able to get a response back from you and currently have no sunscreen after an allergic reaction to a mineral sunscreen, so I’m waiting on ordering this product until I hear back from you.. thanks.
@ScoobyDoosMom10 ай бұрын
Since you use tretinoin, have you had issues with hybrid sunscreens (due to the chemical portion)? Do you stick to mineral only or are you fine with a hybrid? I’m afraid to try the UV clear because of the lactic acid which I hear doesn’t always play well with those on tretinoin. I tried their Elta MD’s UV Sheer and it pilled all over my face & into my hairline; Dr Dray said the same thing happened to her. Once I knew I’d be starting Tretinoin, I started heavily researching mineral sunscreens looking for untinted one with no white cast. After watching about 100 video reviews & other research, I was thrilled to learn of Summer Fridays Shade drops mineral sunscreens. (I only planned to use mineral for my face.) Id been on 0.25% Tret for 4 mos with zero issues, using every other night. Skin barrier seemed in great shape. Then I patch tested Summer Fridays on part of my face while indoors; it felt amazing smooth going on (no white cast!) until I broke out in a massive allergic reaction 5 hours after applying. 🤬Never had sensitive skin before or an allergic reaction. MAJOR bummer as it’s the only mineral one that doesn’t leave a white cast and had consistently positive reviews, with the exception of the people who broke out like I did. 😮I have no idea what ingredient I’m allergic to in it so I’m now afraid to use mineral sunscreens in general. My face has been shredded for over a week from the mineral sunscreen I wore for a few hours & not even out in the ☀️! I thought the whole point of using mineral sunscreens while on Tret, was to avoid reactions like I had from mineral one! I’m not someone who wants to test tons of different sunscreens. I don’t have the money to and I’m terrified of going through another allergic reaction like I just did which is pretty likely if I’m allergic to a preservative which is in most sunscreens. I guess I’ll be hiding out in the house until I can find a Summer Fridays like dupe for my face.😮 makes me wonder if I would’ve had this reaction if I wasn’t also using tretinoin which some dermatologist had said can make my skin more sensitive, but I thought that was just to chemical sunscreens? I haven’t been able to find any videos that speak to my specific type of situation, so I was hoping you might’ve experienced something similar and could impart some wisdom? Thanks if you read this whole thing!

I currently use MD Solar Sciences sunscreen and it is the best sunscreen I have ever used. MD Solar contains VitC and antioxidants. It applies smoothly and evenly, is creamy and luxurious with a warm velvety, pore blurring finish. It is very lightweight, has minimal to no white cast with absolutely no pilling! I am scared to even venture outside of this brand but I really want to try EltaMD. Has anyone tried both brands and can compare the two head to head? ps. I tend to have a dry lower face, prone to "mascne", and a more oily forehead T-zone.
