Net Proceeds from the sale of this release will be paid to the Mercury Phoenix Trust -Fighting AIDS worldwide.
On April 20th 1992, Roger Taylor, Brian May and John Deacon, the surviving members of Queen, took to the stage at Wembley Stadium for the start of one of the biggest events in rock history, which the band had organised to pay tribute to their former colleague -- the incomparable Freddie Mercury. Queen were joined by some of the greatest musical talent in the world to celebrate Freddie's life and work and to increase public awareness of AIDS, the disease that had prematurely ended his life the previous year. As well as being great entertainment, the concert raised a huge and still growing sum of money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity formed at the time whose charter is the relief of suffering from AIDS throughout the world. Now for the first time both halves of the concert are being made available on Digital video.
Special guests include David Bowie, Gary Cherone, Roger Daltrey, Def Leppard, Joe Elliot, Extreme, Bob Geldof, Guns 'n' Roses, James Hetfield, Ian Hunter, Tony Iommi, Elton John, Annie Lennox, Metallica, George Michael, Liza Minnelli, Robert Plant, Mick Ronson, Axl Rose, Seal, Slash, Lisa Stansfield, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Young & Zucchero.

Sadly I don't think we'll ever get one because with the exception of a handful of singers they would butcher his songs because he had such a phenomenal voice. Adam Lambert and Rob Lamberti would pretty much have to do the whole tribute concert. That would be okay with me though!

I gotta be honest...I'd love to see one, but who? Adam Lambert is a tribute to Fred as well as being great in his own right, George?? I'll give it some thought.

@greg acosta Did you ever hear George Michael tell the story how Michael Jackson disrespected him? He went to Neverland as Michael insisted George go there and they were going to discuss doing a single. He said after Michael made him STAND in the foyer for half an hour then Michael was sitting across from him on couches and Michael would not talk to him directly. He would talk to his manager and tell him to talk to Rob kahane to then talk to George. George said this guy is straight-up crazy, no amount of money is worth being disrespected in this way and I want nothing to do with him. It was either 87 or 88 George sold more records than Michael. I agree with your jealousy assessment. George could easily sing R&B pop and dance music, wrote his own songs and played on them and could dance. Strikingly gorgeous he was....defined as normal. Definitely things Michael Jackson wouldn't like.

I KNOW, George Michael, NEVER got the recognition he truly deserved, he was a genius
@kathys_damngoodsong
@kathys_damngoodsong 14 күн бұрын
I'm not sure why you are saying that George Michael never got the recognition he deserved? Yes he did. In 1988 George Michael was the biggest selling artist & was one of the most influential artists of our time; the Paul McCartney of Late Baby Boomers & Gen X's Generation. He has one of the most amazing catalogs of songs that he NOT only wrote, he played most of the instruments on and produced, that are still timeless today! He was shoulder-to-shoulder with MJ & Prince. Just saying:)

@@kathys_damngoodsong He may got "music world" recognition, but I mean in the big picture he never got the recognition he deserved, he was was one the century's best singer song writers, had an amazing talent, but for the most part was ridiculed and mocked. @@BooksFour-so5jv I disagree about "for the most part he was ridiculed and mocked". Sure some did, but for those who did, their opinion is irrelevant, really. Either they were homophobic or were not lovers of music. As Yog says, he never cared about people who didn't care about him, (his music, who he was & his talents and gifts), which is a good rule of thumb for us all to live by:). Good day!:)

@Owoade Dolu But I'd say that the English are primarily Anglo-Saxon (modern-day North-West Germany - Anglo = Englo = English) - with the previous local Celtic population in part being driven out to Wales and Scotland and in part being assimilated would be my guess. I don't know how much of the population was Roman - although probably a significant part of the Roman population were romanized Celts.

You can’t follow Freddie. But George Michael smashed this out of the park. A spine tingling performance. Utterly brilliant

Nobody talks about Rogers reaction starting at 3:45 when George starts to hit that very high note.... you can see it took his breath away so to speak.... and why not because it's downright amazing just like the rest of the performance.❤❤❤

This is just awesome, he doesn’t try to copy and imitate Freddie, it sounds like George Michael singing and it’s fucking awesome, he just nails it. Another gone far too soon, RIP.
