I was at this show in New Haven. I also saw the show in Hartford in July of 1989 and he was spectacular. I have seen Elton 18-times and by far the 1988 and 1989 tours will always be my favorites.

This was the first Elton show I attended. Somebody mentioned he seemed to be in a bad mood. I remember there was no encore. If I recall, he cancelled some shows after this one. Still, it was awesome. Thanks for posting.

+gladio o'malley Yes, it was only one of two concerts that I've EVER been to in 40 years that there wasn't an encore! I guess he had a tantrum backstage as well as onstage.

He was really sick. That's why no encore..

No encore, and kept checking his watch during the show. I was there, too.

Sweet! I was almost 1 and am from CT. Really cool to see and hear. Not a ton of 80s videos out there. Bassist is really into the music.

I was also at this show -- my 2nd Elton show! Thanks so much for thre upload - especially since my seats were at the rear of the Coliseum!

I love this tour, mostly because it was the first time I saw him. It is an interesting take on these songs with this R&B flavored line up. He was in good voice in 89 as well

Amazing.

He is very workmanlike here. Not quite phoning it in but just very serviceable. I saw him on this same tour at Poplar Creek in Chicagoland and recall he was the same there, not really inspired or engaged. Although he seems to be in good voice.

Robert Shearer He was always like that on coke. When he got off things got a lot better.

What you really can't see is the backing singers coming on in the beginning, with robot-like movements!

I notice cameramen on the stage - -were they contemplating an official release of this show?

BTW, does anyone know if a pro shot video from this 1989 US tour exists?

Yeah, when I saw the show I thought that was weird, too. And only one from "Reg Strikes Back".

Yeah, once I watched further and heard his "Last tour, last album" BS I realized, yup, looking at a watch. When I saw him on this tour the show, scheduled at 8, didn't start until 9:15 just after a helicopter flew over the amphitheater. During the show he complained about the acoustics (Mt View 8-20-89) and didn't say much else. Feel sorry for the band during this tour.

I was there and remember him checking his watch. And after his last song, he walked off and didn't come back for an encore. The audience couldn't believe it and kept waiting for him to come back out.

i don't think he said 2 words between songs.

Unlike Billy Joel who talks TOO much between em.

Why not a single song from Sleeping With The Past on this show? Really strange!

I think he felt that his American label wasn't do enough to promote the album so he refused to play any material from it. A shame for the fans.

an official one was Verona 1989...but it wasn't part of the sleeping with the past tour....it was part of the 88 tour.
