@lukekarlsson91763 жыл бұрын
Elton is incredible but I do think there's amazing artists today it's just seems that the more popular ones are bad, there's no soul in the making of the huge records or not as much as there was in the 60s and 70s. Phoebe bridgers is excellent, dodie is so delicate and deep, George Ezra too! But music with the soul that 70s had is rare now
@brianphelan66063 жыл бұрын
I think in some way it is more difficult to be a true artist now. Craft often gives way to quick, everyone has a forum to express themselves (tik-tok, FB, instagram), and everybody feels a need to agree. Artists whether it be musicians like EJ, or print art like Warhol used their art as a means of expression. Today's artist often use their art for popularity and financial gain.......because anybody can become an instant "internet influencer" by flashing some breasts, taking an outlandish political stance and then throwing it up on a social media site. We have become a society of "likes"

I have seen EJ a number of times over the years (including tonight 12-1-18 in ATL). What makes these 1970 recordings so special is the lack of the pomp and circumstance that came with all the live shows I have seen. When you peel away the pomp and circumstance all you can see is talent and maybe a little vulnerability.

@@Lyndanet Wow, it’s Madeline Bell and Kay Garner along with Lesley Duncan. Just read up on them, they were a HUGE part of so many major hits. Talk about 30 feet from stardom! Kay Garner (the singer in the middle) was a backup singer on soooo many records and other things up until her death in 2007 that it’s impossible to list them all. Madeline Bell recruited Kay into her backup vocal group in the late 60’s and they were everywhere. Madeline also had her own soul group too. I knew there was something special about them!
