Kentucky Rain is an amazing song. Not only is it "my" favorite, but I've met dozens of Elvis fans (and several tribute artists) who share it as their #1 spot. I've always thought it would be a great catalyst for a movie script (maybe it has?). It's a rich story and a very visual song. Love it.

Thank you so much for making this, the American sessions are my favorite ones. I love listening to the outtakes from these sessions. I enjoy the outtakes more then the polished masters, mainly because Elvis is in top form and his voice is excellent. I even read at one of these sessions he had a cold, and still sounded good! With all the great songs recorded by Elvis and many other legends, I could never understand why they would tear that building down. Love how they bumped Neil Diamond, read somewhere that Neil was perfectly ok with it! If you get a chance please find more pictures of the studio from the back too, i love the then and now comparisons you do. Again thanks for all your work on these videos.

SpaGuy, wonderful you are showing videos of historic places associated with Elvis, each means very much. The studio was not a beautiful one, but the beautiful music recorded by Elvis and other artists, and historical. I love the recordings of Elvis,' "Kentucky Rain" and "Supious Minds." I have heard, Lisa Marie's favorite song her father recorded is "In the Ghetto." I love the songs "Raindrops Falling On My Head" and "Sweet Caroline," did not know recorded there and in Tennessee. It is a shame the historical places torn down but definitely a historical marker should be there.

I will add, I have not been to Memphis in a long time. A former co-worker and her two daughters and I did in the 1970s. We could only go to Elvis' Graceland gate then. I have pics, do not know if Elvis was home. I am glad we did, his passing in 1977. I hope to go back some day, visit Graceland, Humes High School (still call it), where the Presleys lived, the first home Elvis bought, maybe where the studio was located, and other places you have mentioned and in the future.

I'd like to add something about his look.. those glasses are a spin off of Fonda.. I think the son. Plus when Elvis played his '56 concert in Tupelo... I notice he is doing some break dancing!!!!! Has Anyone else noticed that????? He was stunning on that stage in Tupelo. One fan, was so close she had her arm on the stage and Elvis accidentally stepped on her hand..!!!😀 I wonder if she got a kiss for that, lol

Hi, I really enjoy your KZbin vids on Elvis... if possible I'd like to give you a challenge... you covered American Sound Studios where Elvis did most of his 1969 recordings... 1969 for me is when elvis was at his best! Vocally and performance!! Challenge: Two days after elvis' death in '77 a tv station paid tribute to elvis' 1969 return to Vegas... unlike 'that's the way it is' where it was several takes put together, this concert was start to finish wearing a two piece white suit with dash to the side... I had the album of this concert named "elvis in person " for some reason that concert has never been repeated! A few years ago I had elvis pianist Glen Harden do a show with us and I mentioned this to him, he said it's possible it could be lost in archives but he himself didn't remember as he came to play with elvis a year later.... I would be so greatful if you would research this.. there has to be something on it!! It's the only period I liked elvis in and it is the actual concert I first seen elvis as a performer outside his movies and it just blew me away!! Please see what you can do!! Keep going with the videos they are great!!!

dennydeckerful I read his book and he seemed like a humble guy, didn’t take credit for much just talked about his friendship with Elvis. A very detailed story is told in the introduction/prologue of his book where he describes a discussion that was had at the Graceland dinner table when he supposedly convinced Elvis that American Sound Studios would be the perfect place for him to go to record new, better songs. Who am I to say that George is a liar? I just read the book.

Yes they do all look the same.. I think the metal pole on the street signs may be different it seems to have a bend in it in the pictures that is not there today.. Spa Guy...feel free to let me know if you need any information on where any of the other musicians that worked with Elvis later on lived at the time. I have the session contracts on nearly every recording session that Elvis did, including the films. On many of them, they do list where each musician lived. For example, in the aforementioned instances of Scotty Moore and Bill Black, there was a note attached to one of the session contracts for the September 5-7, 1957 sessions that produced "Elvis' Christmas Album" which indicated where each musician's check should be mailed to, including Elvis' and the backup vocalists as well. The Jordanaires had their checks mailed to them at the Hotel Knickerbocker in Hollywood where they were staying. Millie Kirkham had her check mailed to her home in Nashville. Same with D.J. Fontana; albeit in Shreveport. Elvis' check got mailed to Colonel Parker in Madison, TN (Box 417). Getting back to my point, if you need to know where any of the Memphis Boys lived at when Elvis recorded at American Sound or any of the Nashville guys lived, please let me know. Tighten up and keep up the great work with the videos.

I've read some stuff as well, about how run down American was, even when Elvis was there. Supposedly, as he was walking in there for the first time, Elvis kinda laughed and something like "Damn, what kind of funky place is this?" - or something to that effect, and one of the musicians was talking about how there were literally rats running around up in the rafters. lol

What's amazing is both poles are obviously the same ones...you can see the one on the left still leans over. I remember the engineer, Al Pachuki, telling me about when they recorded there...after they had them in the can, they were driving back to Nashville and knew they had magic!

I can tell you work hard on these videos and have a passion for them...that's pretty cool. I haven't been able to reach Al in 2-3 years. None of my friends in Nashville know where he is. He was cutting meat at Kroger's for years in Antioch, TN. We use to talk quite a bit. I first met him in the late '80's when I was recording at Pete's place and he was the engineer. He walked away when the digital thing came in...he told me he hated digital. He also told me a really funny story about when Elvis recorded at Stax...he had gold plated mics EV had given him with "ELVIS" engraved on them...they came back the next night and the mics were stolen. Elvis had a fit...got really mad, left, and never returned. They never found the mics, but Al told me they knew it had to be someone working there because the place always had armed guards out front, so no outsiders could have come in during that period of time. Keep up the good work!
@SpaGuy7 жыл бұрын
Very Interesting.. I had read the stolen mic story recently when reading about Al.. I was going to ask if you knew where he was.. I see he si still working look at this www.allmusic.com/artist/al-pachucki-mn0000612598 He is still engineering.. I want to find him and get some stories.. Thanks for the inside info.. He was a very important part of all of this and should be recognized.. I am working on some stories about Felton.. A friend of mine actually owns Felton's home in Nashville and I have asked him if I could shoot his home as part of story he hasn't said yes yet though.. I hope he will.. I wonder where those pics are.. There is one small EV gold mic on display at Graceland but I am sure there were a bunch of them..
@chisumharris7 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure Al's not working...these appear to be credits and re-releases. I haven't talked to him in probably 3 years, but his health wasn't good then. I would talk to him occasionally ...a couple of times a year, Christmas cards...things like that. Then his phone wasn't working and I got no response from cards. I've attempted to track him down with no prevail. I went by Kroger's in Antioch probably 12-14 years ago and he was working in the meat department. I tried to get in in the studio then, but he told me his ears were gone. Coincidentally I was talking to my friend, Lance Knowlton today (the guy on my left in my new video - BE IN LOVE WITH YOU)...he's a good friend of David Briggs and I lined up a radio interview with a DJ buddy of mine here...and he was going to ask David if he had heard anything about Al. He's probably in his 80's for sure. Oh yea, it seems like Al told me there were 3 gold plated mics, and I'm sure after those were stolen, EV gave him more. Al's really a great guy...man, what stories! My favorite mic is still my RE-15...it again is the one I used to record my new song. Email me if you'd like, I'll send you a couple of photos and contacts that may help you in Nashville.nickyharris1950@yahoo.comwww.nickyharris.comTake care,Nicky
