Great reaction. Elvis was ridiculed, threatened, and slated for almost everything he did right from childhood and especially in the segregated times of the 50s and 60s but he just keep true to himself and his roots. He put it all out there and reached for the stars. That man had balls of steel!!! He was so far ahead of his time, incredibly talented, and charismatic. Eventually, the whole world couldn't help but love the guy. Never be another Elvis. An inspiration to us all. The GOAT!

Elvis was very upset by the death of MLK and while he was with his songwriter, he expressed that loss through tears. So his songwriter wrote a song about MLK’s Dream speech. Yes, Elvis felt it through his whole body. No one like Elvis, ever.

@@nancy9891 I can see that feeling he had come through/out in all the songs as he is singing. Many can imitate his voice or image, but none can produce the feelings/spirit of the songs like Elvis did. His inner being came out as soon as he started to sing a song.

AND ROBERT KENNEDY -- “The song was not only inspired by MLK but by Robert Kennedy's assassination also -- it was after Kennedy's assassination that Elvis & producer/director Steve Binder had a long sit-down discussion, & Binder asked songwriter Walter Earl Brown to compose a song to reflect what had taken place (based on MLK's speech). Parker wanted a Christmas song but after Elvis looked at the song sheet he told Parker i want to give it a shot.” "Later @ recording studio when the track was finished only about 5 or 6 people were left in the studio & Elvis asked to put his vocal on the music; the lights were dimmed & Elvis asked for a hand mic (which was unusual @ time); he then lied down on the floor & sang in his way in order to learn the lyrics in the way that best suited him; Binder told Elvis to sing live to the tracks - no lip syncing & Elvis learned every note of the orchestration." Pls see "GATES OF GRACELAND: SECRETS OF THE '68 SPECIAL" at kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4vYh5SIf7-qmbs to watch the interview w-Binder explaining how the song came to be at approx. 20:47.

Hi from England I have been a FAN of ELVIS since i was old enough to listen to BBC Radio 1 in the early 70's. If asked "what is my favourite ELVIS song". My reply would have to be ALL OF THEM and OH yes i do mean ALL. ELVIS recorded around 700 songs. BUT This song is "up there". It gives me "goose bumps" every time i hear it or watch him sing it. What was it about ELVIS? Well he just had "EVERYTHING" and you all know what i mean He crammed so much into his short life. He climbed every mountain, He climbed the TV mountain right to the TOP. Records went right to the TOP. of the mountain. The films he made went right to the TOP of the mountain. On stage ELVIS was the GREATEST performer of ALL time. He did not have ANY MORE MOUNTAINS to climb.😊😊😊🎵🎵🎵👍👍👍

O precious brother, Elvis knew the beckoning candle in the darkness is the love of Jesus in everyone's heart. Yes, he had struggles, as we all do, but he knew God is the answer and that is what we feel in this song! The first time he was on Ed Sullivan Show he was told he could not sing Peace in the Valley... too religious. He said "I told my mama I am singing it for her." And he did!!!

Cathy….How true….Yes….Elvis had struggles like we all have….That was exhibited in his last recorded performance….”Unchained Melody”…..However….Elvis’s love for humanity came through….though apparently tired and burnt out….(for whatever personal reasons)….Elvis sang that song with power….love and beauty than any singer….could ever hope to achieve….His imperfections-at the end made him more beautiful….

@@valeriekitover7363 As a retired nurse 👩🏼‍⚕️ it breaks my heart that Elvis was clearly in congestive heart failure when he sang his last song. Had he had treatment for it, he may have survived. Prolonged use of prescription opioids weaken the heart. While he was here he gave us more than a lifetime of joy and music. I grateful to have been born in 1954 and grew up hearing the King with the voice of an angel.

In most cases, a person usually needs to listen to entirely different artists depending on their mood except for Elvis. I really can't think of any other artists whose fans say he can put as much emotionality into his songs as Elvis or makes everyone feel like he's singing only to them. He has generations of fans, most of whom came long after he'd gone, and still has such the same powerful effect on people.

True, no one before or now has the emotion & power that Elvis had coming from his soul & his gut - which applied to EVERYTHING he sang - not just this song. INFO ON THIS SONG includes ROBERT KENNEDY -- “The song was not only inspired by MLK but by Robert Kennedy's assassination also -- it was after Kennedy's assassination that Elvis & producer/director Steve Binder had a long sit-down discussion, & Binder asked songwriter Walter Earl Brown to compose a song to reflect what had taken place (based on MLK's speech). 20:47. You may see comments about Elvis "collapsing on the floor" "crying w-grief" "locking himself in his dressing room for 2 days" - he was very disturbed about everything happening but there is some "over-the-top." misinformation & most people forget about Kennedy. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam. Thank you very much from a new subscriber.

Inspired by the 1968 assassinations of MLK & RFK (not JFK). MLK was killed April 4, in Memphis, a few miles from Elvis' home. RFK, Robert Francis Kennedy, was shot 2 months later, June 5 (died June 6), in Los Angeles, not far from where Elvis had just begun preliminary work on the Singer special (aka 68 Comeback Special). RFK was a US Senator, former US Attorney General & younger brother of JFK (President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, killed Nov. 22, 1963). Senator RFK had just won the 1968 CA Presidential Primary, minutes before he was shot.

And what’s so interesting too, for me, is that he sang this likeTWO months after completing the last of those sugary, controlled, superficial movies that he was locked into in a contract for almost ten years. He’s got out of the contract , and - BOOM - his passion is let loose.

20:47. NO SUCH THING AS NOT LEAVING HIS HOME FOR 7 DAYS - GOOD HEAVENS THE MISINFORMATION SURROUNDING THIS IS ASTONISHING!

Awesome nicely done. Here are two great Elvis songs on YT to react too, both done live while wearing his iconic white suit. What Now My Love.. and Suspicious Minds😁

Great review and I agree this was his most passionate song ever...he made his voice rough to get the gut feelings he had out.

A very powerful song... NBC didn't want him to do this song. Elvis did this song against Parker's advice... I'll never call him Colonel ... because he wasn't!
