Here's take 1 of Elvis' 1964 studio recording of Chuck Berry's Memphis Tennessee, set to photos of Elvis out and about in Memphis from the 50s to the 70s and performing in 61, 74, 75 and 76, plus a few photos I took during my most recent visit in 2017.

Yes. Soon. I was just talking about this very subject with my partner the other day (considering incidentally). And my generation (58) although not born at the top of The Kings rise and height, seem to be the last ‘really’ n to him. Millennials and zoomers just do not seem to care (yes there exceptions but I mean in the general wholesale way). I think he will had faded for most within 20 years.

What do we all have in common >>> Elvis fans and an appreciation of how this man could sing any type of songs and a great entertainer. No one has come close to this guy. I hope the New movie does him justice and opens up to a new audience of Elvis fans who then need to stat looking at his past movies and concerts to see just how good he was and what an influence he had on the entire world. He went from a skinny poor boy to a handsome mature man that most women wanted

I had an opportunity to see Elvis in early 1977 the tickets were $17.50 for a guy making minimum wage $2.30 per hour that was a fortune, so I passed a few months later he was dead. By the way there is a tribute artist headlining at Elvis' hotel in Las Vegas the old Interernational hotel, now call the Westgate, same showroom same show it is sold out nightly, so successful it was just extended to July 2025. Las Vegas is my hometown, if you are in town it may be worth your time.

Keep in mind the temperature in the desert drops as much as 20 degrees after the sun goes down, bring a light jacket so you don't have to waste money on buying one. You have probably been here before, just bear with me. People get in trouble chasing their first loses, just trying to get back to even money so set a certain daily amount to gamble, and stick to it. Lastly if you want an experience few people have, go eat at Capos Italian restaurant, it is the last of the MOB restaurants left in Las Vegas. The old guys sitting around the place are actual mobsters most too old today. The food is great they will make you feel at home, no danger, they'll be happy to have you, but these guys are the real thing have no doubt about it, throw backs to the days when Las Vegas was MOB run.

I wouldn't say Chuck was "the greatest lyricist in history" 1. After Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, the African American newspaper, the Chicago Defender explained that: “When Elvis Presley breathed his last breath and the press hailed him as the ‘King of Rock,’ Ol’ Man River cried out, ‘Naw he ain’t! My friend Chuck Berry is the King of Rock. Presley was merely a Prince who profited from the royal talent of a sovereign ruler vested with tremendous creativity. Had Berry been white, he could have rightly taken [Presley’s] throne and worn his crown well.’” 2. Stevie Wonder. 1. a blind man. 2. a black man 3. wrote most of his songs 4. played most instruments. 5. brilliant song writer. 6. 25 Grammys, the most by any solo artist 7. 1 Oscar 8. did I mention he was blind and black? 9. 23 studio albums, three soundtrack albums, Elvis 1. 3 Grammys 2. never wrote a song.

@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 You don't have to agree with me. It's just an opinion. For the record - I love Stevie Wonder and I love Chuck Berry. I bought many of both artists' records. I never bought a single of Elvis' . I was commenting on his LIVE concerts and his enormous popularity - similar to the way I feel about Ali. The truth of me is this - I have no interest in discussing anything with anyone who continues to embrace a victim-mentality. It clouds every word and takes the fun out of everything.

I was at Graceland the morning he died. I was a little girl and my dad was on a business trip to Memphis, so mom and I tagged along for the day. Mom was a huge fan and very time we went to Memphis, we had to stop at Graceland! That hot day, his cousin was working the gate and asked if we wanted to go up to the house…so of course, my mom said yes! We got into the back of his white truck and went up to the front door. He told us all kinds of things about the house and about Elvis. Two things stood out to my 8-year-old brain: the big, long car with shiny pipes out front and the fact that his cousin said Elvis sleeps until about 3 to 4 pm daily…I thought that sounded crazy for a grown person! We headed to some office building in midtown, mom and I heard the news from a secretary that he’d been taken to the hospital, then we were all glued to the radio. My mom and I sat in our car the rest of that afternoon listening to his music play on FM 100 and she cried. I now live in Memphis and everyone here has an Elvis story. I know a retired cop who was there and saw him dead on his bathroom floor. Poor Elvis needed people who weren’t yes men…rehab could have saved him. Different times.
@DFWJon
@DFWJon 2 жыл бұрын
The thing is, those “yes men” were paid to be “yes men” and to NEVER tell him no. If Elvis wanted ANYTHING, you better bet that he had people in place that would, and/or could, get it for him, regardless of what it was!!! Lots of rich and famous people have other people around them that are willing to do any, and every, thing for them, including, but not limited to, getting stuff that isn’t good for them. Most of the time, their own bad habits, and choices, are the main reason for their untimely demise!!! It happens to the best of them. Case and point, Elvis Aaron Presley!!!

We lived in Memphis for a couple of years when I was really young, about 6 or 7. My folks saw his last concert in Memphis. My mom and I also saw him riding one of his trikes down the street once, I think it was the one that you get a glimpse of in this video at 2:15. I still have several of the Memphis newspapers announcing his death.

Кажется незатейливая песенка, но какое же гениальное исполнение. Да, Элвис так рванул вперёд время, что остался в одиночестве, но теперь он не один, с ним весь мир. Браво Король!

Great photos, but I think the constant supposed fornication is why God took him home early, imo. He believed strongly in God, but you cannot live that way. Great Gospel Albums. I think the only award he got was for his gospel album. Cursed with good looks, the devil tempted him.

Como todos sou fã de Elvis e de suas músicas, mas quando olho para a vida dele vejo muita tristeza. Ele tinha tudo, mas era extremamente infeliz. Aí me pergunto?

IMO: that story is utter nonsense. Parker probably couldn't get 50% of the publishing from the Chess brothers so Johnny Rivers became a convenient scapegoat.

He was the best singer ever. His voice is angelic especially when singing Gospel. I saw him 3 times and the last was in May before he died. I knew then something was horribly wrong. I balance Tom Parker for this. If his mother had still been alive she would have never let Parker within 100 miles of him. Parker killed Elvis.
