Actually, Tony Joe White wrote Polk Salad Annie. Listen to his version. What you'll discover with Elvis, is that he can sing songs written by, or performed by others, and bring more soul and energy out of a song, than the original artist did. You will discover, with Elvis, it worked this way 99.9% of the time. That's another reason, he's the greatest that was, is, and forever will be!!!

Love that you lads have cottoned on to Elvis, I've loved your Reactions !! What you may not know, is that for 7 years, EP did two hour long shows in Las Vegas, at 8 pm and midnight, 28 days straight, twice a year ... imagine getting up and down for those shows and then trying to live a normal life ! Barry Manilow works the same show-room now, and plays 3 shows a week, two weeks on and two weeks off .. so 6 shows a month rather than EP's 56 shows in a month ...

Amazing how Elvis could take someone else's song and do it so much better, add energy, and a vocal that can't be matched. I recall the original version of this by Tony White, but it's no where on the same level as what Elvis did.

@@PoboyNCoke ...easy peasy! But just one? Here are a few I love that aren't so well known: I'm Leavin'; I'm Movin' On; I Really Don't Wanna Know; and It's Midnight (this one I heard at his house in Beverly Hills...he had just recorded it so he played it over and over. But before he played it he explained the entire song so we wouldn't miss anything. After I commented to him that I loved the chorus, every time the chorus came up he reached across his girlfriend (Ann Pennington at the time) and shook my leg and said "Here's the part you like, honey...." And finally, Promised Land, which I once heard him sing (among many others) upstairs in his 30th Floor Suite after the late show at the Las Vegas Hilton, standing with a small group (including me) around the piano with Charlie Hodge playing... He sang until the sun came up that night and believe you me I wasn't going to budge until he went to bed!!! Sorry for the long response! It's very hard to pick one favorite!!!

Elvis came before the "singer songwriters." Back when artists knew if they could write music or perform it...the line's been blurred for a long time. Elvis knew he was a performer & most if not all of the songs he did were re-arranged by him to fit his liking. When did it stop being credible to perform someone else's song? @@PoboyNCoke some people hate the fact Elvis is called the king and will say things to try and bring him down a few pegs. Put his career against all of his peers put together and it's still easy to figure why he's the king. From everything I've read and seen he seems to be a great person on top of everything else. With all of the people he worked with not a single bad thing said about him. When anyone can bring over 600,000 people a year to a place like Memphis to tour the home and visit their grave then we can talk. I took a cab from Beale St. to my hotel during Elvis Week in the 90s at 2am and the cab driver kept saying Little Richard was the true king of rock and roll. When I got out of the cab and paid the fair and tipped him I asked him if he thought many cab drivers were making money in Macon ,Ga right now? Then I said if wasn't Elvis you wouldn't either.

Elvis was sent by the Gods to entertain us. He blended different types of music to create his own. He could sing any type of song, R&B, Blues and Gospel, the rest is history. You guys need to listen to his version of, Bridge Over Troubled Water.

If you would want to see this whole thing some time, its actually a movie called Elvis: That’s The Way It Is. it’s got the show and a lot of casual backstage talking and rehearsals. It has Elvis joking and talking and telling stories. I think it’s my favorite to watch. You get to see his casual and fun side and then when he just walks out and commands the stage.

Elvis was and will always be The King. He added colour to music and brought souls to life. There will never be one that compares.
