You are absolutely right about Elvis. He should have trusted his intuition more often. If Elvis performed abroad, his career would have taken a different turn. Can you visualize the impact!? He would have rocked the planet to the core and and would have it literally on his palm.

@ElvisistheMan_ thst would have been great to see! I grew up watching his movies and listening to his music eventhough I was an 80s baby he was staple at my house, but it wasn't until this year thst I really delved into his live performances including the 1968 Special and the 1970, 1972, and 73 all the way to 77 and holy cow I've been blown away I did not realize the magnitude of his talent even though I grew up on him. If Elvis were still here in his 20s, 30s, his 40s, even 60s and 70s, maybe even up to 88 who knows? Elvis would be the only performer I'd pay big money to see Elvis blows everyone out of the water live in my opinion!!! I love and appreciate other artists don't get me wrong, but Elvis was in a whole other category, he was one if a kind! The King!!

I was born in 1969 and when I went to Graceland, I bought the 1969 International Hotel and his performance pictures! It’s the best Elvis look ever! Super cool stories as well! One story had this guy who snuck into the concert and acted like he was a reporter doing a story. He walked straight up to the front and was asked to sit down at one of the dinner tables right by the stage. He just acted like he was a very important person and played along. It was a super cool story and to see Elvis so close!

They have improved the sound of this recording a lot since it 1st was released as a bootleg sound board many years ago. I’ve always liked this show as you can really tell how raw and different it was from the shows we would come to know. He sang many of the songs more slowly and with great dedication.

I absolutely love these 1969 concerts, he would never reach those musical heights again. It’s a shame he didn’t perform more of those recordings such as Long Black Limousine, It Keeps Right on a Hurtin, Any Day Now, etc. Suspicious Minds never sounded as good as he didn’t rush it. My favorite was the one of Inherit the Wind, fantastic song. Thanks for bringing these concerts moments to the fans!

Yeah that would’ve been great if I was to drew upon his Memphis sessions more in 69/70! But KENTUCKY RAIN, DONT CRY DADDY, IN THE GHETTO, and SUSPICIOUS MINDS were regulars in his setlist. But that would’ve been great to hear the song you mentioned live. He did rehearse “any day now” getting ready for a second biggest season..

So sad Elvis never toured Europe, Asia and South America. He must have been bored out of his mind the constant cycle of touring usa over and over again and being confined to the vegas gig .Such a shame he was deprivated of different opportunities. Elvis knew he had fans all over the world and he must have felt bad he never playing live for them .I feel Tom Jones was a piece of Uk for Elvis and he asked Tom about UK .Our Princess Astrid of Norway sister of our King Harald meet Elvis on G.I Blues . She said Elvis was man with a big M 😁.Parker was so full of BS. The security would have been top notch for a Star of Elvis magnitude. 🙂

I absolutely love this! Elvis looked and sounded phenomenal. I think 1969 was definitely Elvis' best year for everything. He was happy and everything was going great in his life. Tom Parker was just garbage! He stopped Elvis from doing what he wanted. But Elvis should have stood up to Parker and did what made him happy. Excellent video! Thanks.
@johnthornton6807
@johnthornton6807 Жыл бұрын
The first part of Elvis’s career, especially when he was in the army, Parker was excellent for Elvis, keeping him in the spotlight and releasing records while he was in Germany was brilliant management. But after that he was like a bloodsucker, constantly feeding lies, manoeuvring him into films he didn’t really want to do, doing shady deals behind his back, interfering in Elvis’s music direction, I could go on forever everyone knows the rest. Elvis was the biggest star in the world, but if he had got rid of Parker in the mid sixties, he would have become even more famous, if that’s possible, but even more important, I think Elvis’s personal life would have been better, more content and certainly happier.
@jimmykarlsson2567
@jimmykarlsson2567 Жыл бұрын
1961 was the biggest one year back from army, the movie Blue Hawaii was a huge success and he was undisputed. In 69 he had alot more competition from Beatles, Rolling Stones, Vietnam flower power music and all that modern stuff. In 61 no one thought about any other than Elvis. And back then he could also sound like he did in the 50s as little older in the 60s

Excellent video! This is a very good research work that brought a very rich view of the moment Elvis was facing: such an important turning point in his career. If he had gotten an international tour at the time, who knows, maybe he would have been more motivated in the following years that became predictable and boring in many ways for him.

Looking back, we can all see it clearly now , 1968 was Elvis's 'now or never' moment to break away from the Colonel's misguided contracts. The Comeback Special & Steve Binder's influence should have convinced Elvis to do it. I'm convinced that he was discouraged from ever contacting Steve Binder again. Inside stuff that we won't ever truly get to know. Then came 1969 which was his last chance before the Colonel trapped him with the 'table cloth' contract that locked him in to the Hilton until 1974 which turned in to another rut just like the movies. A million dollars for 8 weeks work per year certainly sounded very enticing. It should have been a cake walk. Except for the 2 shows a day crap Too bad he lost his way. He was already relying on bad substances to keep going and he started the mental & physical destruction that we all know about all too well. There were other opportunities too but by now he was heavily addicted and lazy. The rest of the story is just a shame . Such talent and skill gone much too soon. Easy to arm chair comment on another persons life isn't it? Many of us can relate to Elvis's story . I for one have made many mistakes too with my life's choices. This was definitely a good video ElvisIsTheMan !

David, this video is excellent…likely your best IMO. You make so many valid points. Elvis DID prosper when he followed HIS intuition and personal inclinations. The Colonel WAS self serving and focused on himself…he indeed, as all true Elvis fans know, Parker was an undocumented immigrant and if he ever left the U.S. could not get back in. Sadly the Colonel inflicted his illegal status predicament onto Elvis and impeded and hindered Elvis’s growth throughout the late ‘60s and certainly the 1970s. That said, the audio from the early August performances at the Intentional Hotel in Vegas is simply stunning and fabulous to hear! A year later, although also spell binding and incredible, we see Elvis as the undisputed “King” in the MGM documentary TTWII. In early August of ‘69 Elvis worked hard to restore and reestablish himself and his relevancy for a new generation. Thanks so much for uploading these great film clips and audio from ‘69. I have many of the ‘69 FTD CDs, but I clearly need to purchase one more! 😂

Performing made a Elvis so happy, all the way to the end of his life. He had a manager who cruelly kept him from reaching his full potential, a supposed “fairy tale” marriage that was actually horrible, and many of his friends and family were just out for what they could get from him. His mother, Lisa Marie, and his work were the loves of his life. It’s so good to see him enjoying himself here.

Come on man, the Colonel was absolutely right, the security for Elvis outside of America would have been impossible back then. Can you imagine trying to control the crowds who would turn up at any airport in the world where Elvis landed? I remember when the Beatles came to Melbourne in the 1960s, it was chaos. With Elvis it would have been 100 times worse. There was no venue back then big enough to handle Elvis. The Beatles played in a stadium holding 2000 fans in Melbourne. That would not have been enough for Elvis. Now in 2023 we have much larger venues, but even they wouldn't have been big enough to handle the number of people who would have travelled from all around Australia and New Zealand to see him.

This was the pinnacle of Elvis's career. It was a slow downward trend from this point on. Yes their were some highlights The That's the way it is documentary, the Madison Square concert where he was starting to put on weight, then he got back in shape for the Aloha concert, then it was all downhill from there. What happened? He got into the downers and he got bored. Such a pity.

I do agree with all you say ....but also logically yes Elvis should have maybe gone to europe .....but say he did england ....france ..belguim ...holland ...italy etc ..logistically who was gonna handle Elvis"s security ..?..it would have been bedlam ....also his personal safety im sorry to say every unstable clown in the universe would have been after him ... .... ...he should have been able to have his freedom and roam but we only have to look at john lennon.........please let me say in not trying to be all doom and gloom but at the same time we also have to be realistic .....esp around the time of charles manson also ... . ⭐📀🎙🙏👑👑👑

Hey, on the song "Wooden Heart", Elvis sings one verse in a foreign language, what is that language? That would make a good video from you as not many people, even diehards, know Elvis could sing in a foreign language. @@maemcbride954 Thank You for taking the time and effort to give me an answer. German, huh, makes sense I know in "Follow that Dream" he sang a song in Spanish but I knew that wasn't Spanish in "Wooden Heart" So many times I ask influencers questions and they never answer, just like here, he didn't answer and I have asked him multiple questions. These influencers want to make a great living off of us listening and ea thg ching their videos but then when a sub asked them a question they never answer. It angers me to no end. They do videos and beg, beg, and beg us to subscribe and hit the like button and send money to their Patreon but they wont even answer a simple question. This happened to me with a guy named Coop at a channel called Garage Gym Reviews. He wouldn't answer any of my questions so I sent a comment telling him how sorry he was and I ripped into him a little bit. The next day I got an answer from him. He said some bull crap about time restraints and he is sorry I feel this way. I told him, he could double everything, subs, money, etc. if he would actually be a good person and interact with his subs. He wouldn't answer our questions but he sure begs for our money. Sorry for the rant, it just angers me when an influencer only has only 100-200 comments but he won't respond to any of them except maybe the first 25. They could take an hour a week and satisfy their subs. Thnkx again

I believe what Sonny West said, that the Col. didn't want Elvis to go overseas because there was no safe way to handle carrying all the drugs and guns. If Elvis would've been busted with all the drugs and/or guns, his image would've taken a huge hit. He might have been arrested for it and the Col. and Elvis refused to take the chance. Could you imagine if Elvis was arrested for drugs? We have to remember Elvis was hooked hard by this time on the drugs and he always carried 3 or 4 pistols. Elvis and the Col. both knew he (Elvis) would not be able to go overseas without the drugs. Elvis wanted to go to Europe but he was okay with not going because of these two reasons. This is sad but it's true. Elvis was the most powerful entertainer there has ever been, and he was his own man, if Elvis thought he could've gotten around the drugs and guns he would've gone, Col or nobody else would've stopped him. Elvis knew as long as he was hooked on the drugs that he was not playing Europe. He blamed it the Col. and the Col. gladly took the bullet for it but it was not the Col.'s fault.

I believe that we will never know the exact reasons for Elvis not leaving the country, all we can do is to speculate. Although you have made a very good and reasonable explanation for another cause to be thrown in the mix! That makes me wonder then, how did he travel to Hawaii with drugs and guns? Was it just simpler to go into Hawaii from the mainland as opposed to another country. You are right about the reasoning though, Elvis getting caught with drugs and guns probably would have been a terrible blow to his career and also to Elvis the man himself.

@@donnap.c.886 Going to Hawaii, he did not have to go through Customs but going to a foreign country brings in a whole new level of security. Nobody is checking Elvis' bags or luggage if he travels within the USA. He never left the USA after he got hooked on drugs, not even to Canada. He never even tried to leave the USA, even on a vacation. Arguably the most powerful man and one of the richest doesn't even go on a vacation to a foreign country, ever. That right there tells you that I'm dead on as to the reason Elvis never played Europe, Japan, Australia or any other foreign country. It's not speculation anymore, the Memphis Mafia has said it's the true reason. He could've tried and been successful but if he got caught, oh boy. Elvis thought it was too big of a risk when he didn't need to. The Col. also didn't get 50% of Elvis' earnings, that is a myth. Col. got 50% of the Merchandise that he had made and sold but the music and the concerts the Col. did not get 50%. The 50% thing didn't even come up until Elvis fell in the shower and had a concussion for over 2 weeks and Billy Smith stayed with Elvis in Elvis' bedroom for 2 weeks. This was late 66, early 67, a little before his wedding. I'm not a Col. fan but he gets a lot of blame for Elvis' mistakes and problems. Elvis did what he wanted to do, nobody made him do anything. Elvis didn't let anybody take advantage of him. Elvis Would've fired the Col. in a second if he thought the Col. was taking advantage of him.

@@ElvisistheMan_ Yeah but Dr. Nick was trying to cover his tail. Dr. Nick wrote prescriptions for 10'000 pills for one year, I think it was 1976. That is 29 pills a day I believe it came out to. As far as never playing in a foreign country and people blaming the Col. for it. Ask yourself this question. How is it that Elvis being the most powerful man in the world and one of the richest never even went on a vacation outside of the USA after he got hooked on drugs (Army). After returning from the Army in 1960, Elvis never ever left the USA. He didn't want to take the risk. This tells you that my reasons for him never playing in a foreign country is dead on. Sonny said the Col. told him this and the MM knew it was true too. They thought they could pull it off but Elvis was just too worried to try it. I mean Elvis never saw anywhere outside of America after 1960 and he would fly to Denver to get a sandwich, so you got to know I'm right about these reasons (Drugs and Guns). Take Care
