I'm very happy for you. Please, please take this seriously. His head butting is super dangerous. He will grow quickly and be super strong. The way you were feeding him apples was just reinforcing and rewarding the head butting. You're going to want to learn as much as you can quickly before someone gets hurt.
@GrandmaKarenHasAFarm13 күн бұрын
And when his horns grow, it will be VERY dangerous!

Having lived on a dairy farm and handling cows and bulls daily, I know that people need to respect these large animals. Even very tame ones can be dangerous in certain situations. They need to know that you are in control…you respect them and they need to respect you. Bulls are much more unpredictable than horses. Good luck…I would suggest long conversations with herdsmen in your area as they will have the wisdom and experience with animals like Henry.
@lisadeluca571414 күн бұрын
We raised cattle for years-don’t be surprised if he busts through that makeshift gate. Seven months old is pretty strong calf. He’s scared he’s used to being with a herd. Cows are herd animals just like horses. You got the two horses together. I wish you would’ve waited and gotten him with another animal-❤
@lindafrance919214 күн бұрын
In their last video when they spoke about the time frames for getting them, I was thinking that they should get them at the same time because of them being taken away from the herd and then all of a sudden being alone at such a young age.
@sharn1982lizard14 күн бұрын
I'm sure she's coming before Christmas 😊 can't wait but I'm glad they got him a little sooner he can calm her then surely 😊

Be careful, bulls are aggressive even highlands. His head butting even at this age, can cause injury. Hope he settled in and learns to trust so that you can brush him, and vet him when needed. Every thing needs time and love. 🎉🎉🎉
@bettyloar223814 күн бұрын
Be careful, he’s only going to get stronger as he grows ❤
@P.C.Nanton12 күн бұрын
I agree. Bull are no one to play with He will grow horns. If He is 7 month and love to head butt. I encourage you to have an experience farmer give you some pointers before he begin to grow horns. I believe this breed grows large horns. Good luck family . Let Him learn to get a.ccustom to each member of the family. Best of luck. I can see the Excitement He misses his natural surroundings...

Henry is so cute 🥰. And he’s also scared … away from his herd and now ‘ locked ‘ in an enclosure with humans showing their teeth ( smiling ) at him 😮!! He is charging at you to protect himself. I agree with other commenters that NOT giving him treats when he charges will teach him : bad behavior, no treats . THIS IS IMPERATIVE FOR YOUR SAFETY. Will the vet come check him out ?? That said - I’m so happy for you to be starting your cattle adventures !! ❤❤🎉🎉
@thisabledwoman363714 күн бұрын
Growing up on a farm & having experience showing cattle in competition, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a head harness (similar to your horses just without a bit) to get him used to being lead around by you. That will “tame” him & get him better acclimated to you all. The earlier you start the better-sure he’s cute, but he’s still a BULL. Unless you train him appropriately NOW while he’s a baby you won’t have any luck training him when he’s older. You’re almost going to have to work him as much or more than you do the horses-he can be a very dangerous animal if not handled properly and the time to start that training is NOW. To get him comfortable with everyone all 4 of you must equally be in on the training. Otherwise he’ll start to only listen to one person & could turn aggressive towards others. I would speak to other local hobby farmers or reach out to your local co-op to see what resources & recommendations they have for you as far as what training supplies you’re going to need. It’s way more than just getting him to let you pet & feed him. You’re going to have to master how to handle him when he comes at you to head butt. It may seem cute & like fun & games now but believe me-from experience-it’s terrifying when about of control angry bull starts after you & you’ve no where to go. Enjoy Henry! The most important part of that enjoyment is learning how to keep you all AND Henry safe! I absolutely adore cows. They’re the best if you know what you’re doing. We never kept bulls-too dangerous-we kept steers & females.☺️
@loissaedder221413 күн бұрын
Especially with the horns they will all eventually grow. Even young calves are a lot stronger than people. They need to learn to read his signals. One of them will get hurt if they don't.
@thisabledwoman363713 күн бұрын
@@loissaedder2214you are exactly right. That’s the reason we had polled cattle on our farm. Horned animals were far too dangerous & destructive for liking-but everyone must weigh those issues for themselves. I just hope they sincerely take my advice-or had already put into motion the steps necessary-to properly train Henry for everyone’s safety. Otherwise there will be way more tears shed than with Henry I.
@Truthwinz12 күн бұрын
I hope they listen and appreciate your experienced advice! Herd animals do not let another one of their herd take their food unless it’s the herd leader. So hand feeding in my opinion makes them think you’re not a herd leader to be respected.

I’m so happy for you and he’s lovely . I know you know about bulls but I wouldn’t feel right unless I mentioned that my great grandfather went out to feed his bull and never returned…his son found him. I have a farmer pal I play Pickleball with and he came to watch the other day as his bull broke a couple of his ribs…don’t ever turn your back on him…he can’t help it he’s a bull and it’s instincts etc. wishing you all the best!

I’m curious as to how you plan on keeping the bull & heifer from immediately breeding when you get her-since it’s best to not breed a yearling until they’re about 15 months old? You could potentially may have one frustrated, destructive, dangerous bull on your hands in a very small & not so sturdy, confined space.

Don’t jump back. You have to let him know you are boss. If you don’t he will never let you pet him. I was raised on a farm. Just remembered theses are large animals with lots of muscle. They can hurt you if you let them get you down. Yes they are cute but they can hurt you.
@kayalford674614 күн бұрын
He’s cute and the moos are cute. But remember he is scared and confused. He’s not mooing to be cute. He is saying I’m not comfortable. And he’s mooing to see if his former herd answers. I don’t know anything about bulls but I can see the same fears as I see in dogs turned in to a shelter. I know in the long run Henry will be a part of your family.

Getting knocked down by a bull isn’t fun, so be very careful. Even, maybe especially, when he’s tame. We live in Texas and have a Brangus bull who is very tame. He knocked me down with just a nudge of his nose and now I have shoulder and back injuries. He tries to knock over our atv when our son is feeding the cattle to try and get the cattle cubes sooner. Don’t turn your back on him!
