Interesting to see this built, well done. I am curious, why is the floor so high? and that space under the floor not used for storage? Just seems like the center of gravity is a bit high on this. But perhaps there is a reason for this..or this boat has a specific function that I am not aware of.

Thank you, love it. For me, ideal would be higher rails--and I would love to see it on a dual axle trailer, why? Not weight bearing so much, yeah, I get this is more than enough. But with a dual, you can carry extra things in the boat without thinking about it--AND, when you have a high speed blow out, and it can happen, even with the tires maintained, you have an extra level of safety. Again, ideal world.
@EM-hu2bj4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Higher rails are definitely an option. Tandem axles are nice, but this rig will be going about 2km from the launch ramp to storage twice a year, on a rural road with a 60kmh speed limit, so no high speed blowouts for this one :)) Cheers!
@jimquantic4 жыл бұрын
@@EM-hu2bj I hear that, you if you can get 90 percent plus of your needs, you are great. I just always think about ideal designs, IF one starts hitting the open road, maybe to camp and fish, dual trailers can't be beat. Mine is on a single too, and I keep tires in top condition, and a spare; still in that ideal world I would take a dual any day. Fantastic boat, thanks for posting--and you can't beat that engine.

and I for forty years, and I too have not had a blow out. That said--and in line with boating in general a "back-up" for everything is a good idea. I carry a kicker engine--and needed it only ONCE in all these years, but still "best practice". SECOND is weight bearing, you simply have way more with a dual. @@boikebeagle

Fab work tops. I did not catch the flotation foam install. Test drive cold enough for coats, but not 1 pfd? No other saftey gear on board? A 16' should have seating middle and back for rough sea. Either too cool or too something going on.
@EM-hu2bj2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If you look closely you’ll see I’m wearing an inflatable PFD, and the owner and his son had theirs tucked under the bow. Radio, oars, lines etc were on board, and we stayed in the bay. Not too cool for safety here. Boat was built to the owners specification, with two back corner seats, bow locker seat, and a seat in front of the console. Hull is double welded and pressure tested, but no foam by request.

hi would like some detail on the wooden base under the boat ,thanks
@EM-hu2bj4 жыл бұрын
The wood base is actually the pallet that the aluminum came on. With the centre beam knocked out the hull sits nicely in it, and it helps to keep it stable. I have found it’s possible to clamp opposing sides fore and aft down to the frame to straighten out a minor twist. I’m currently building a heavy aluminum jig for then next boat I’m doing.

It seems to be normal to go to the next process after doing R.T and U.T after welding. However, there is no such process in this video. It seems that problems will arise later.
@EM-hu2bj2 жыл бұрын
RT and UT are not generally done on small recreational vessels such as this. all hull seams are welded inside and out, and pressure tested for leaks.
@weldcerts2 жыл бұрын
There is no need to go to that level of expense and time. After all, only the most critical pipe or structural welds are ever RT inspected and UT is only required on CJP connections. Other than that it's VT (Visual Testing) for almost all welded joints in both ferrous and non ferrous metals. This CWI thinks the OP is doing a fine job.
