I agree with this for the most part, also: we are insufficient in all areas of life compared to our holy God and must trust Him for strength in all things. The point to be driven home is we trust in Christ alone for our strength and do not rely on ourselves as if we are sufficient in our own strength.

The goal is power, but power found in weakness. When the goal is humility, and abiding, these are opportunities. Thank you brothers for your word. Praise God! :)

Isn't this all grace? Isn't the event that exposes our weakness a grace? Isn't the weakness itself a grace? And isn't the heart's desire to turn to Christ grace too? Still, it seems rare to hear the Gospel presented us in this way. Yet, I think this is exactly how God drives the Gospel home in our hearts. Why do we fight it? Yet, we do.

It’s really sad if you have double degrees in theology and a six year old can stump you.

I disagree. There are common questions that are difficult to answer or may take a lifetime of wrestling to find peace with. Take the struggle between free will and predestination. Countless scriptures support both so it's not a simple answer. Children can comprehend free will on some level so a question like that could stump an adult. I'm sure he could offer info on it, but perhaps not be able to answer simply.

@@sierrahultgren945 That is not nearly as difficult a question as you may think. Nowhere in scripture is free will spoken of, only bondage of will to sin and death. There is only one free being, and that is God. All other beings are dependent and therefore not truly free, meaning not ultimately self-determining, which is what "free will" tends to mean. I think nebuchadnezzar would have a bone to pick with people telling him he should have just used his free will during those famous 7 years. But if by "free will" you mean volition, then yes we have that of course. It really is "me" choosing to type at this moment, I am not a robotic representation of another entity. And the answer to the question is we must exercise our will in the process of salvation but that process is not initiated by our will. We are brought to life, and then with that new life our will is constantly engaged in obedience. It's rather simple. In other words: If you do not respond in faith, you will not be saved by God. If you are not saved by God, you will not respond in faith.
