The Emergency Department at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County cares for approximately 140,000 patients per year as the entry point for the community surrounding this safety net hospital. It is a level one trauma center and stroke center with endovascular capabilities. The Department is divided into 4 areas. These areas are:
-Our Critical Care Trauma unit, which is where all critically injured and medical patients are treated with ICU nursing ratios and advanced critical care capabilities.
-The main ED, which contains space to treat upwards of 85 patients at a time for common emergency presentations.
-The Pediatric emergency department with specially trained nursing and pediatric emergency medicine physicians that care for 30,000 children per year
-Fast Track that cares for the urgent care presentations. The Kings County Emergency Department is the epitome of teamwork with care coordinated between different specialties and inter professionally between physicians, nursing, social work, radiology, and more.
