WVU fan here: I think Alley’s decision comes down to the fact that he will have total control of the defense. Also painting WVU as a lesser team is fair after the last 8-10 years however they are a history rich program and I think there is belief that under Rich Rod WVU could be a contender every year in the conference championship in the big 12 and then the 12 team college playoff system. What Rich Rod was able to do with the resources he had previously at WVU is something that excites fans.

Alley’s analysis is pretty easy here. He’s a young up-and-coming coach who is probably eyeballing a good HC gig in the next 3-4 years. To get there, he needs to move away from being Co-DC on a team where the HC is a defensive guy and go somewhere where he runs the entire defense himself. RR will absolutely let him do that.

From the "Clemson insider" at 6pm. today. Quote "We can tell you that we have been tracking this question since the Texas game and all signs continue to point to Swinney making a change at defensive coordinator. Things are now far enough down the road that we are hearing where Wes Goodwin could land. Through speaking with multiple sources, it sounds as if Goodwin could be heading to Oklahoma to reunite with former Clemson defensive coordinator, now Oklahoma head coach, Brent Venables." Most definitely prayers for Julie! Brent is going thru more pressure and decision making actions than any of us can really imagine. This is what Oklahoma needs to do moving forward. Brent needs to move down to head defensive coordinator. He's a mastermind in that area! Ben will bring a lot to the table as our new offensive coordinator! This is no disrespect to Brent by no means. If this would be taken serious it would be great to bring back coach Stoops or Switzer for that matter or possible former players that are qualified. Oklahoma legacy would be back on track with great new beginnings and good existing and new players coming in to rebuild the dynasty for this football program.

It’s the same stuff over and over. Why would we expect it to change?
@StrawHatTeen-k6i3 күн бұрын
@@junsinator971 You are right. In 2023, the coaches cost us the OSU game for sure with stupid penalties from them walking onto the field (Coach BV, Coach BB) extending a scoring drive as a result and Lebby with his head scraching stupid play calling in crucial situations ( 4th and 5, has Stoops run route short of first down marker - if he just called for a pass over the middle to Stogner, we likely win).Even though OU went 10-3 that year with good coaching they, at the very least, make the Big 12 championship game in a rematch with Texas. Poor coaching cost us games at KU and at OSU. Neither one of those teams were that good. See what Texas did to both of them. Now it's even worse and I just don't see BV ever getting OU into the playoffs. There's a reason he was an assistant coach up to the age of 50. Joe C and Bob Stoops showed really bad judgement in taking him over Dan Lannning. Joe C needs to go as well and BS needs to stay out of the decision making process & go play golf with his friend Steve Spurrier. BV needs to step down and be with his wife.

This move to the SEC came at an inopportune time. Option 1: Get a DC, and put money into the spring portal for players on the offensive side to help Mateer. He has 2 years of eligibility I believe. If people don't like working under this HC then the AD needs to demand he change is management style. That should bring stability. Option 2: You're blowing this whole thing up by buying out BV, the staff all scatters, you sever all current HS recruiting relationships, create a panic amongst the players, open up an extra portal window immediately, all the sharks will come take all your talent including the QB who just transferred in and you'll sink the program permanently when it was already faltering in a more difficult conference. I'd choose option 1.

We need to do something quickly because they’re gonna regulate the money and the amount of players on the team after the first probably need to start having a contract that you cannot leave within a certain amount of time and if you do you lose money unless School wants to buy that coaches, contract or players contract. If they’re gonna do it like it’s NFL let’s do it call semi pro instead of college. I’m telling you that the money in the portal without being regulated you’ll never have loyalty for a team when you always have these teams out there. That will pay more money than the next school and the school that has the most money will win the most games because they’ll get the better players so we need an intervention.

Inevitably, why get upset about it, BV will make a hire and Arbuckle and whoever the DC is will turn this around or they wont and we'll be on the hunt for another HC, maybe itll work out, maybe it wont, the sport is cyclical, we could be in a late 90s rough patch or maybe its a blip...thats just the reality of the sport so might as well accept it

Ya, I don't understand all the "sky is falling " stuff over a 1 year DC leaving. He left for who knows why, but that's up to him. We'll be fine.

How do we lose to WV? And no wonder our D wasn't ready, the coach had one foot out the door. I'm usually not doom and gloom buuut we can't keep seesawing good offense bad defense, good defense bad offense.

I’m in disbelief. We are a midcard program now until we prove otherwise on the field. This thing needs to be torn down to the studs and completely rebuilt.
@-sensibleChris3 күн бұрын
He was a 1 year DC. He will be replaced and we won't be any worse off. We didn't look ready half the time this year on defense anyway. We have too many good players on this defense for it to be just ok. A new DC could be a boost. As long as Arbuckle and Mateer are here,we'll be ok. We would have been a 9 win team this year if they were here.

This is huge. What is the story about the turmoil among the staff? There's smoke about a lot of strife within the staff. Did WV entice him with moonshine and pelts?

Enticed him with a former colleague as the HC, no co- status being THE defensive coordinator, and a path to winning with Rich Rod. Got a better gig on a rebuild than waiting for the sinking ship to go belly up, it makes all the sense in the world.

Man, if i had to explain all the stupid choices i made when i was 30... Seems to me that it comes down to two main things: 1. SEC pressures; 2. Job autonomy. I hope he got a big contract because he'll likely be the first one out the door if Rich Rod isn't winning by year 2...

Is this really what OUr program has come to???? We can't hold on to one of OUr best (if not the best) coordinators and prevent losing him to WV of all schools?!?!? OU has been taking Ls left and right since '21. I can't do it anymore...Im finished with college football. Shiii too damn stressful

BV is running the defensive. Zac was CO-defensive coordinator with no real authority or ownership and never will. He left for a promotion and a chance to prove himself.
