Interesting comparison. GoT seems to have a theme of fathers turning a blind eye. Kind of says a lot about womens standards in Westeros. There would be huge consiquences for the girls.. Of course I think Otto just sympathized with Alicent in the moment, was maybe a little grossed out to talk about it, just lost his job so didnt give a fuck, and loves his daughter. Tywin was just plain in denial and couldnt stand the thought and refused to entertain it.

I didn’t feel at all that he was saying “no need to tell me I love you anyway” but rather it felt like he was saying “I don’t want to shoulder your burden with you and I don’t need to you to speak it into reality. I’m referring to the scene towards the end where Alicent tells Otto “Father I have sinned” obviously about to confess her affair with Criston and he immediately tells her he doesn’t want to hear it. We’ve already seen Otto give her and Criston looks last episode so it’s clear that he knows what she was about to confess and he asks her not to share it with him anyways.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Aegon looked "happy". Think of it this way- he's a grieving parent who now believes his opportunity to avenge his son is before him. He is also cracking under the stress of the position he has been put in by his family. There are signs of this crack deepening even before his son died. Keep in mind that when Viserys died, Aegon tried to run away rather than accept the throne. It wasn't until his brother and Sir Crispin dragged him back to the keep that he was crowned.

Aegon later reclaimed the Throne and the crown after he killed Rhaenyra ( she fled from King's Landing to Dragonstone ) and Daemon & Aemond killed each other so he became the undisputed Monarch in the end and he was written in history as the rightful heir of Viserys and as rightful King

I’m currently re-watching game of thrones and I noticed something interesting at 14 minutes into episode 4 of Season 3 called “and now his watch has ended”… King Joffrey is giving Margery Tyrell a tour and he shows her a tomb and says “Rhaenyra Targaryen was murdered by her brother, or rather his dragon. It ate her while her son watched. What's left of her is buried in the crypts right down there.” i wonder if anyone else noticed this?

Wrote this on another vid: I've read the books, listened to the books, and disseminated everything over 15 years. I also have pages of symbolism of book versus world history (culminating in Bran being King). I finally came to a conclusion of the purpose of GRRM's book series. I remember when I had that epiphany awhile back. It was a great relief. I believe that GRRM reaffirmed that monarchys, religions, having bloodlines rule, etc are devastating over thousands of years. The fighting, loss of life, loss of humanity - is it all worth it (for example iron throne!). The end of S8 (albeit bad season), was about enabling people to have a choice, democracy. Having Bran as King was about retaining knowledge of history- hence the Three Eyed Raven rapid download of history. Doom of Valyria possibly represents the loss of knowledge from Greece/ Rome. The little Socratic method of choosing Bran. Ultimately, the Night King wanted to top Bran as he represents knowledge. I dunno, I'm satisfied with this basis conclusion in the purpose of the series in case GRRM doesn't finish. Ultimately, the two most basic things in the series- the knife which kills the Night King and Drogon roasting the Iron Throne- is interesting. Thank you EA for breaking all this down too. I have been listening to the audio books as well. I noticed that GRRM has a lot of symbolism with RED. Dany missing her red door, the red comet, Ghost's eyes being red, Drogo's red stallion etc. I found this quite interesting and also realised that in HOD - red is symbolic of the Targs. Green- Cersei and Jamie's eyes were often cited in book as being a dazzling green. The colour of the "foe," in HOD is green. There's also some prophecy surrounding the quote,"There must always be a Stark in Winterfell." I saw a breakdown of it and seems that there is a connection to the First Men are Children of the Forest. Etc, seems to refer to the bloodline that keeps Night King in Order. Also noting the Godswood tears are red too. Anyway, my biggest? Is why did Heleana pick one over the other? Why pick the heir?

one correction, the Bracken and Blackwood feud goes back centuries or possibly millennia. The kid killing the other one when rhaenyra was hosting suitors was NOT the beginning of the feud, it happened BECAUSE of the long running feud. I think in universe none of the living characters know why the bracken/blackwood feud started so long ago (way before aegon’s conquest, both families descend from either the first men or early andals) and GRRM has not stated a cause that I’m aware of (unless it’s actually an old land boundary dispute)

Once I saw the names of Sara Hess and Claire Kilner during the opening credits, Daemon was in trouble. 🤣 But here’s the thing, I prefer if Daemon wasn’t whitewashed for the show. We need to see that monster in him. He’s no saint, that’s for sure. We need to also see his violent nature, temper, and impatience. He’s not as horrible as Homelander but Daemon is not a good guy. Maybe only sometimes. Standout characters in HOT D S2 so far are Rhaenyra, Aegon II, and Mysaria. I’m liking Tom Glynn-Carney’s performances for this season so far. He can be a whiner, but so can Daemon who is still thirsty and petty on wanting the throne. Aegon has to react that way because he just lost his son, an heir to him. I actually got quite a bit of satisfaction when he came in and beat the living shit out of Blood. Mysaria has also been another standout character this season so far. She’s basically the female version of Varys. In the book, *spoilers* Mysaria became one of the Rhaenyra’s closest allies and let Daemon sleep with his old mistress. When you see Rhaenyra pauses and stares at her because she finally recognizes her, you can see some tension there. In real life, Emma D’Arcy is considered a they/them and can look very tomboyish. While Sara Hess is a lesbian like Leslye Headland, Amandla Stenberg, and Rebecca Henderson. They shot that interrogation scene very well because this is the first time we see and hear them speak to each other. Mysaria is going to be Rhaenyra’s closest confidant because she doesn’t trust Daemon enough as he’s wildly erratic and unpredictable. Even though Criston and Otto can be so hated, I did enjoy Fabien and Rhys’ performances in this particular episode. I thought they made the Greens a bit more sympathetic. With Otto, he’s actually a man of peace. He’s only trying to prevent violent men like Daemon from being king. He wants the least amount of bloodshed. But you can see his regret by pushing Aegon II to the throne. You can tell he misses Viserys. He was the same way as Otto. Viserys was a man of peace and that’s who Otto wants the next kings to be like. Otto only wants peace and quiet. He labels Rhaenyra as the pretender to the throne only to realize it’s his great-grandson. Fabien on the other hand, you can see the guilt because Criston wasn’t present to protect Helaena. He was too busy smashing her mummy. But then you see him use that guilt on Arryk as a way to manipulate him and put the blame on another person. Then at the end, you see Criston is hooking up with Alicent again. We see his hypocrisy and perhaps how he didn’t feel so guilty. He’s going to be the most hated character in this series. He’s such a douchebag. Great performance by Fabien but Criston is an awful character. This episode felt like Game of Thrones’ early seasons where there’s more political intrigue and we can really see the characters being fleshed out. We can see how complicated things can get for them. For instance, Rhaenys could’ve prevented a war by killing the Greens when she had a chance. But then she would’ve ruined her reputation and Rhaenyra’s with the common folk. War is complicated. You can’t just kill somebody with brute force. Kinslaying is looked down upon. The Cargyll Bowl was pretty good on how it was shown. That’s pretty much how I would picture it for TV. A better translation than Blood and Cheese. I do believe had Arryk killed Rhaenyra, he would’ve been killed by the Greens if the Blacks hadn’t caught him. Criston was never protecting him. Arryk was pretty much blackmailed to do it as it was a suicide mission. Criston is such a prick that he turned his own mistake into a guilt trip for another guy who wasn’t screwing the queen like he did. Criston was trying to frame Arryk to blackmail him. If Rhaenyra had been killed by Arryk, Daemon would’ve took Caraxes and a bunch of other dragon riders on dragons, and they would’ve burned the Red Keep regardless with the Scorpions protecting it. Probably came at night to burn it. I knew Daemon was going to get shit by Sara Hess and Claire Kilner once I saw their names there. Daemon is a monster, his daughter Baela sometimes hates him, or how Aemond assumes Daemon fears him… 🤣 Ewan Mitchell looks so scrawny curled up next to an older hooker. No Aemond, your uncle doesn’t fear you. It’s Vhagar. At least this episode showed that Aemond had remorse for killing his nephew. An uncle who killed his nephew, the irony and karma that’s coming to Aemond. We finally found out who Copper Penny was. Erik Voss mistakenly thought that was Helaena. Copper Penny is a whore. We haven’t seen Alys Rivers yet. Love these women writing for shows like HOT D and The Acolyte. Lesbians can write that Rhaenyra and Mysaria scene very well though. You can see Rhaenyra kinda eyeing Mysaria in a sexual way. 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 You can feel some sexual tension brewing. But that’s how it’s going to turn out. Rhaenyra and Mysaria will become BFFs. Lesbians wants to turn lesbians as standout characters. Right, Leslye? MVPs of Season 2 so far 1. Rhaenyra 2. Aegon II 3. Mysaria 4. Otto 👀 5. Daemon 6. Aemond 7. Jacaerys 8. Erryk 9. Helaena 10. Criston (biggest dickwad) Emma looks a bit thinner in this season. “Their” face is glowing. Helaena is the only Team Green character most viewers will have sympathy for and the only likable one. Phia does a good job portraying a dreamer who also happens to be looked upon as a weirdo among her relatives. Almost like she’s autistic but with a third eye. Great to finally hear Daeron called out by name. Alicent is useless by this point. She’s not a dragon rider. She’s done nothing so far in this season except have sex with Criston. At least Alicent still had the conscience of wanting to confess her sin to her dad. But she’s still a hypocrite like Criston. There’s a scene in the episode where I thought Jaehaerys’ head was going to fall off with the carriage stuck against a rock. Glad that wasn’t shown or they were going to take a very serious and solemn scene and turn it into a Family Guy cutaway. “Rhaenyra the Cruel” gets a B+. An improvement from last week’s B episode which didn’t progress the story much. It was 68 minutes of good performances by a few actors. It’s Game of Thrones S1-S3 with some stunning scenery that surpasses GOT S1-S3 since those were done on smaller budgets. This show looks absolutely epic and doesn’t look cheap the way The Acolyte looks cheap. Otto = The Hand Larys = The Foot Criston = The Tongue (and The Ass) Imagine being Arryk Cargyll eating his food and minding his own business. Then Ser Crispy lays his own guilt onto Arryk to force him into his death march. Then the final scene, Ser Criston A-Hole has more sex with Alicent. As if he had zero remorse on what he just did sending an innocent man to go kill a queen who had no part in Jaehaerys’ killing only to have both twins die! F-k you, Criscunt. Biggest POS in it. I’m not rooting for either side. I said it a week ago. If you know how the Dance goes, there are no heroes. There are no winners. That’s the moral of the story. War sucks. Brings the worst out of everyone. Innocent people die on both sides. I do call myself Team Daemon but he operates almost independently and selfishly. That’s me. I’m a loner by nature. The Rogue Prince can go rogue at any time. That’s why Daemon can he such a dickwad and a wild card at the same time. But a wild card who can tilt the war to your favor since Daemon is the most ruthless and fearless in it. He’s their Michael Jeffrey Jordan. He’s the most gangsta. He takes things personal and seeks only revenge. You know who is the most relatable character this season so far for most viewers? *Hugh* *Hammer.* Very little money and trying to survive each day trying to feed his family. Hugh Hammer and the dog kicked by Cheese are the most relatable. Because most common folks are poor/broke and gets kicked by the ass from life almost every day. Of course if you know Hugh Hammer’s story, your feelings will drastically change for him by the time we get to Season 3. Before House of the Dragon aired back in August 2022, I wanted HBO to keep things balanced and make viewers more sympathetic towards the Greens. I know Troy (2004) wasn’t well received and isn’t better than Best Picture winners like Braveheart (1995) and Gladiator (2000) but I enjoyed it because it was showing us both sides of the war. It wasn’t biased towards one side. Eric Bana as Hector stole the show over Pitt’s Achilles. And Sean Bean as Odysseus didn’t die in it like what happened to Boromir and Ned Stark. If HBO made it very pro-Black, HOT D would feel too predictable. Live in the gray area to make the arguments valid coming from both sides. War can be very complexed and nuanced where both sides are not completely right or wrong. Two very good recent episodes from The Boys S4 and House of the Dragon S2 while The Acolyte continues to put out crap. We will see if that changes tomorrow night….

Daemon is supposed to be a grey character. Nothing about him is grey in the show, and SH is the problem. Ruining a character because you don't like their popularity, so you show and add more black to their character without adding white in it to calibrate it is not a good sign.

@@Chasingdreams25 Agreed, and what makes it worse is that the book the show is based off of is specifically stated to be the GREEN'S ACCOUNT of the Dance of Dragons, in the lore it's written by Maester Gyldayn who was a Green loyalist and there are many conflicting stories in the book which is meant to allude to the unreliability of the narrator, which means that Daemon in the book was already being written in the worst light possible as it is being written by Green supporters, so to make Daemon EVEN WORSE in the show is just mind boggling. The show was supposed to be the ACCURATE portrayal of events as opposed to what the Greens said happened. I feel like if Daemon was really this reprehensible then it would've been included in the book.

I don't think Otto is a man of peace. He wanted Aegon to be King because he wants to be the power behind the throne. He schemed and plotted to undermine Daemon and Rhaenyra's claims during season 1, even going so far as to push his daughter into becoming Viserys' new wife and drive a wedge between Rhaenyra and her father. He also didn't flinch when he pointed out that they'd have to kill Rhaenyra to ensure a smooth accession for Aegon. He's having his regrets now because he can't control Aegon or Aemond. Otto is ruthless but at the same time, he wants to play the game. He has shades of Tywin Lannister but he's not nearly as commanding as Tywin was. He understands the power of propaganda and just wanted to use Jaeherys' death as a political ploy. He didn't seem at all sad that Jaeherys was dead. His main concern was that the manner of his death made Aegon look weak. He wants to manipulate the smallfolk into supporting Aegon and he's just worried that Aegon's arbitrary executions will turn people and the great houses of the realm against the Greens.

I’m guessing Baela probably spots the Green's army, swoops down trying to burn some of the cavalries as we see in the trailer, then flies back and tells Rhaenyra, afterward that’s when Rhaeneys flies out to burn them on Meley’s and that’s when she gets ambushed by Vhagar and Sunfyre resulting in her death.

There is an ironic situation now at team green. With king Aegon’s only son and male heir dead, his own line of succession is broken. If Aegon doesn’t want his brothers to be his heir and no more new sons are being born, he has to declare his daughter as heir (kind of what team green accuses queen Rhaena for as female heir) 😂 so ironic

Aegon is extremely immature, so he is probably both upset over his son's death *and* extremely giddy about going to war. That doesn't seem odd to me at all; it actually seems very in-character for him, and I think it's clear he is gearing up to commit some real atrocities.

I read something absolutetly different (as many people) in the Alicent/Otto scene. I think Otto was just trying to ignore her daughter because he really doesn't know how to bond with her, he used her power but he really never cared about her opinion or desires. And I think we can mirror this relation with Alicent and his children. She doesn't know how to comfort them or really listen to them.

The Velaryons have been intermarrying with the targaryens prior to aegons conquest. Aegon's mother was a velaryon and their continued condition to marry the velaryons after the conquest further affirms this. The velaryons at this point have a little "dragon riding blood" within them, enoguh it seems for addam to tame seasmoke.

AND EVEN THEN, all of her descendants should have also been able to ride dragons but Addam is the only one that I was able to find that could ride a dragon that wasn't a recently direct descendants of a Targaryen. I mean, its a book but just interesting after being told "only true targaryens can ride dragons" lol.

The family tree's you have seen do not account for pre-conquest targaryen's so we have no indication as to how many times they and the velaryons did intermarry. Moreover, in general, the "blood of the dragon riders" is a hand wavy concept in the books itself. it functions as george wants it to function. The point of the dragon seeds narratively is to pointedly undermine the targaryen doctrine of exceptionalism. They were given said exceptionalism by the high septon because they had to intergrate with westerosi feudal society but moreover, it is a concept by which george can critique those with perceived absolute power being the same as everyone else in reality. By all accounts, dany shouldn't have been able to perform her ceremony. She is a quarter blackwood, martell and valyrian. The point im making is anyone with a smidge of dragon riding blood has the CHANCE to tame a dragon but not the assurity. Whatever the percentage in addam allowed him to fully tame the seasmoke without issue.

@8:57 - THOUGHTS? Coincidence or not? Why do the 4 eggs feel like foreshadowing or an Easter egg (ha!) referencing Dany dragons? Reddish black, gold, dark green, icy blue. Makes me kinda think Drogon, Rhaegal, Viserion + Icy Viserion. Drogon’s egg was mostly black and we know these eggs are NOT those, but I still find it interesting and wonder if it’s intentional. Probably a coincidence. 😉
