You left out the divorce (maybe more than one), where he lost a lot of his money. Also, hurricanes in Louisiana & flooding destroyed a lot of restaurants. He did the right thing by taking care of his workers, getting them new jobs or sacrificing his own money to make sure they get paid - even if he wasn't.

He had been on tv doing a show out of Florida on the cooking show and, info- Mericals and, he’s made guest appearances on different shows! So,he hasn’t exactly disappeared! He’s getting older so, also as a celebrity chef he has a overwhelming schedule and, yet just because, he’s not out there in the public all the time people are ready to say he’s all of a sudden disappeared! Wtf? Course, as chefs get older and, things slowdown, they spend a little more time at home with their families, that isn’t a crime, especially as busy as they are. I was watching a bunch of cooking shows back at that time when, he was doing his Live Show, he has always been one of my autistic son’s heroes and, one thing he said he wanted to be other than being a firefighter he wanted to was a chef like Emeril L. And, when, he always came on tv, my son wouldn’t take his eyes of the television. Every time he said, Bam, my son would do it the same way and then, he’d have a good laugh!Emeril has been such a inspiration to younger kids, I just don’t think he realizes it, because, he’s just such a humble person!

I’d hardly call retiring after selling your brand/name to Martha Stewart’s company ‘his demise’. He’s 63 years old and still has five restaurants. More importantly he’s a wonderful human being. Rare for a celebrity. I met him at an event we hosted for one of his cook book launches in Seattle. He was a big star in 2000 yet he was the kindest, warmest person. He spoke to everyone who approached him and stayed until the end. I wish he and his family all the best.
