Cetus is a constellation of a whale/sea monster and the art is a space whale with several eyes haha. Also you opened the box side ways lol. It has art and some writing on the inside panels when you open it the right way. Idk about "ritual-like unboxing", but it certainly has cool presentation when you open it right and fold it out. Also as a side note, it took me a while to fully understand the functionality, but it can do some really fun stuff. With the switch up, you hold the footswitch to do an infinite reverb of whatever was playing when you pressed it down. So you can use it to hold a drone. That also makes the bottom middle knob do pre-delay. With the switch down, the knob does modulation (for the waves it increases the intensity/volume of the waves). The switch down also puts it in a really cool mode where you can record knob changes (multiple layers of changes) and then whenever you hold the footswitch it repeats those knob changes. So for example, you can "record" the mix knob slowly increasing, and so whenever you hold the footswitch it will do that increase you recorded and then go back to the current settings when you take your foot off. Then you can layer on say the bright knob rolling down at the same time, and when you hold the foot switch it will roll up the mix and down the bright at the same time as you recorded them. I can't remember off the top of my head but I think it records the mod knob as well. So you could have it so that holding the footswitch increases/decreases the waves until you release it. All 4 of the pedals in the series have this function iirc. I only have the Cetus so far though.

A lot of those tracks you made - especially with the first doodad - make me want to soundtrack a solar punk noir novel with them.
@PhillipRaymondGoodman29 күн бұрын
Isn't noir kinda the opposite of solarpunk? Like isn't noir implicitly dystopian?
@ichortide29 күн бұрын
@@PhillipRaymondGoodman Noir isn't a genre in the same way as "punk" genres, noir and neo-noir are more related to tone and themes while "punk" sub-genres are more about aesthetics and settings that tend to be used to support or contrast certain themes. So, a noir solarpunk novel might have a bright setting on a surface level but have high contrast in aesthetics and themes, and the main characters might deal with cynicism and crime that come with new or aging technology (which may or may not make it more tech noir or possibly even post- or pre-apocalyptic). Anything can be merged together if you're creative enough, even seemingly opposite aesthetics like solarpunk and dieselpunk exist simultaneously in real life, same with rural slice of life and urban warfare, or psychological thriller comedy romance.
@PhillipRaymondGoodman29 күн бұрын
@@ichortide as far as I know solar punk is meant to be utopian, as a purposeful contrast to cyberpunk and it's related genres which are dystopian, I always assumed the punk aspect is that the stories are meant to be subversive
@ichortide29 күн бұрын
@@PhillipRaymondGoodman Subversive can mean a lot of different things, though, depending on the context, and genres are never that strict. The utopian aspect of solarpunk doesn't need to define the rest of the themes in the story or other elements of the setting at present. It could be a future the characters are working toward, or a previous version of society that is falling away or being held together. Although noir tends to focus on cynicism and moral ambiguity, it isn't required to be set in a dystopia, or any particular kind of setting. And in real life, many people would call certain big cities or small towns a utopia while others would argue that place, global society, or human existence itself is a dystopia. In a solarpunk noir, I can easily imagine cynical characters battling the remnants or reemergence of cynicism, crime, doomerism, and so on in the dark shadows of a utopian landscape, needing to contend with living a life unseen or unappreciated by others, or antagonists (be they regular people or criminals) who struggle with letting go of vanishing lifestyles as society changes to something more sustainable.
