NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette - Review & Tutorial

I would love to see a massive comparison video with a lot of different contour/highlight palettes. I really want to get one, but I'm getting a little overwhelmed and I'm not sure which one is the best choice.

I have this palette and I was wondering why everyone was bashing it on KZbin and I thought I was the only crazy person that actually thought this was a great palette ..... I agree... it's not drastically different from so many of the bronzers or contour shades people like to use, and they're definitely pigmented. While I love the texture & packaging of my Smashbox kit- I could still probably pull off the same look out of both palettes. It's not like some products where the high end might seem worlds away from the drugstore version, you know? thanks for watching, Jessie!

I followed a different tutorial on Sunday and was disappointed with the result and then was regretting buying this pallette; but then I followed this tutorial the next day and I love it! I've been doing it for the past 3 days. I have a darker skin tone, but it still works for me :)

I like the tip to "know your face". My nose just looks bigger if I do the standard contouring. I've found it better to do a light dusting of matte bronzer on my nose where most people highlight, works better. Gives me that "tan" look; when we tan our noses get the color first!

I picked this up today. I chose this one because I'm new to contouring and it's priced cheap enough to "play" with it. So far, I like it. I can see why the other beauty gurus, picked it apart, but most of them are used to the super amazing high end ones. So of course, this one will fall short. But for those who want to learn to do this, this is a great pallet.

Everything from pigmentation, quality, price, packaging, travel-friendlyness, and comparsions to other popular comparable products are covered in your reviews and I can't tell you how much I (and the rest of your viewers!) appreciate it. It's so lovely to hear such refreshing and honest feedback from someone as gorgeous inside and out as you are. On another note, I've noticed you often mentioned that you look for good, blendable shades of "the perfect brown" or "the perfect black" in pallets. Would you ever consider making a video comparing some of these browns/blacks from different pallets. If you go to NYX's website you can buy single pots of the various contour shades. The pots are under the face category, they run about five dollars. The pallet is a great deal for all the shades (about a $50 value,) but if you just want one shade or run out of a certain shade it's perfect. The pots fit into the pallet as well, and I believe (could be wrong,) there is a larger shade selection on the website for mixing and matching.

Just picked up this palette at Ulta for 11$ on sale. I'm excited to try it as I'm not a contour expert. I love that it has so many different colors to choose from because you can always play around with it. TFS em.

That's exactly what I said! I bought this as soon as it came out...I was just about to get the anastasia one when I saw this was coming out and thought I'd save just a few bucks and see what the drugstore one could do. I've loved it since I got it (now...I'm just a sahm of 4 who loves her makeup) so when I saw all of the reviews popping up I was shocked that Noone liked it and wouldn't even review it:/ I am so glad emily did, and I trust her opinion over lots of others anyway:)

It's tough bc many do not like powder contouring palettes bc they're VERY different than creams. If you don't like the way powders look on your skin, I'd use them sparingly, they can make you appear dry/chalky just as a powder blush or translucent powder can. On the other hand the results can be a more natural/blended finish too. It's all preference. Why don't you try both? I use creams but you may get plenty of use from both! Don't be deceived by the "almost perfect" finish we see thru the camera on video, they blur out a lot of imperfections too. You may just have to try them both. Good luck!😊

***** Actually, they all received it in their NYX gift bag when they went to IMATS. Most of them were really excited and then sadly disappointed. I think even in this video it's clear that Emily wasn't able to get a typically high-end contour look like the gurus can show with Anastasia, KVD, and Smashbox. I trust Emily's opinion and I do agree that most youtubers will push products for payoff. But many of them are huge NYX fans and reluctantly had to admit it's not a great product. Even NYX had to drop their retail price because Ulta was getting so many returns.

NYX is really bringing it this season. I've seen so many great reviews on their lip, eye and face products. I actually did the side lip tip during your tutorial lol and it worked really well. I've been told this contour palette is particularly good for folks with very fair skin. Personally, I don't really see why anyone who doesn't do makeup for a living would need an entire palette for contour and highlighting, especially since contour and highlight for every day or even party looks should be natural and soft. I have the Nyx blush in taupe which I use for sculpting and then the Too faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer for...well...bronzing. I like playing around with different highlighters, but I don't feel the need for an entire palette devoted to that kind of thing, since I'm not a professional makeup artist who works on other people. Find individual shades that work for you and use those. Easier to travel with, too. That said, great video, Em! I love how impartial and honest you are in these reviews. I've gotten a few products on your recommendation and have yet to be disappointed. Well done!

I love the idea of using contour powders as shadow! Perhaps you can do a video on drugstore products that are multi purpose. Like lipsticks that are great as cream blush or eyeshadows that are great for facial highlighting.

Loved this review! If you can't afford the smash box palette one tip for traveling with the NYX powders would be popping them into a z-palette since they do pop out of the palette they come in! Especially if you only use a couple of the shades.

Makeup Revolution is really raved about in Europe right now, it's a very affordable drugstore makep brand that specializes in making dupes from high end brands, they have contour kits :) People are going crazy over them.

I use ELF's all over stick in the shade toffee or coffee (or something, it's the darkest shade) for my contour and it's been my favorite drugstore contour. It just takes a little from the stick to place where you want the contour, and then you just blend it out. It's not too warm and not too cool and works perfectly with my skin. I'm very pale too so a little goes a long way.
